Blue Plum Dental

Negative experience: The staff is really nice and friendly, but the dental work performed is highly questionable. I have gone here for a bit over a year for my cleanings and had a bit of other work done. I had a chipped tooth and filling done, and have been able to feel the spots in my mouth since they got fixed. Never before have I had dental work done and been able to feel the fillings with my tongue months after the procedure. It turned out that during those procedures it was possible to do them both at once, but they accidentally numbed the wrong parts of my mouth so I had to come back for a follow up appointment. In isolation a singular event like this isn't that big of a deal, but I recently had to go back for more work and that is the reason I chose to write this review. I have a Maryland bridge because I am missing two adult teeth and so I have two fake teeth glued in, instead of implants. My bridge had been built by another dentist and glued in for over a decade with no problems until the glue failed one day while eating. I went to get it glued back in, a seemingly simple procedure. The hygenist was great. She slowly picked away the old glue with a metal tool and commented on how she wanted to be very careful to not damage my enamel. Once she was finished she called over the dentist Dr. Lyons to glue the tooth in. He claimed there was still a lot of glue on the tooth even though she cleaned all that could be felt with my tongue off. He proceeded to use an electric Dremel on my tooth for around 5 minutes and I could feel it getting hot and starting to hurt a bit, but figured he knew what he was doing as he is a licensed dentist after all. He ended up glueing the tooth back in slightly crooked, as I could feel it with my tongue and I couldn't feel it before. I was very suprised by this because the bridge was such a perfect fit that I was walking around with it just snapped into place without glue prior to the appointment, so it really seemed hard to mess up. The glue failed under two weeks later while eating again, except this time I had a lot of sensitivity on the tooth he used the Dremel on. As I have come to find out, he used it for far too long and took off my enamel and exposed the dentin underneath which has the possibility of killing my healthy tooth long term and maybe eventually needing a root canal. All of this because a simple regluing procedure was botched. I'm not one to write up long reviews, but I just wanted to post this here as a warning to others. If you feel that the dental work being done doesn't feel right, speak up. Do not get put in a situation like I did where one of your healthy teeth is now compromised for the rest of your life.

Negative experience: Dr Lyons Missed my cracked tooth and did a crown on a tooth that wasn’t hurting and a random filling on another. The crown was ill fitting and had to be filed down for what seemed an eternity. I almost got home and I had to return and have it filed some more I had to pay over $2,000 and still had a bad tooth. I never had a worse dental experience. I will never go back.

Negative experience: This office is not the same since Banyas and Miranda have retired. Inconsistent dental hygienist and poor communication with the front desk. Decided after today’s cleaning I will not be coming back.

Positive experience: Our dentist recently retired,he will be missed! Prices have increased,for United healthcare insurance.

Fantastic experience: My first dentist Jack Smythe in Bristol, my boyfriend in Nashville, Gus who gave me silver fillings that lasted 47 years, Dr. Banyas and now Dr. Miranda over 20 years. Excellent.

Positive experience: I have went to this dentist since I was a child but since Dr. Miranda has retired and I had to see Dr. Lyons my experience has went downhill. I did not feel as though the same level of care is taken of my teeth now that new staff is there.

Fantastic experience: I only had X-rays done and a short exam then a referral. I cannot see the surgeon until the end of April and am having 9/10 level of pain. I called them back and they have not returned my call. The dentist and dental assistant were very kind.

He is skilled and knowledgeable, plus being excellent when presenting me with information and options. I lived in a big city with many good dentists, and I think this office is the best. The staff and assistants are excellent too. The whole office is efficient and friendly, too.

If you walk in with any nervousness, Angie’s personableness and charm will have you comfortable and relaxed in no time. She was so wonderful! I can’t say enough good things about her. Dr. Lyons was equally incredible. He was extremely kind, friendly, warm, talkative, and informative. I do wish I could I could remember the receptionist’s names who took care of me upon check in and check out, because they were both extremely kind and friendly as well. Negative experience: I've debated leaving a review for a few years now, but I think you should know why I left. I went to this dental office for over 30 years. Dr Miranda is so patient and such a great doctor. Everything I've had done there from cleaning to procedures were professional and easy. I had a hygienist I liked and I was happy to go to my appointments. One day I showed up for my appointment and I had been moved to a different hygienist. I thought maybe mine was busy or something and that's why I was moved. I continued to see the new one, as I thought maybe mine didn't have room for me anymore. The new hygienist However, made it unpleasant to go. While she had her tools in my mouth and I cannot have a discussion, she would tell conspiracy theories, constantly talk about religion, politics, and finally after she started saying homophobic things... I asked my first hygienist if she minded if I could be switched back to her. She said she wasn't sure why I was moved from her in the first place. This went well for a while, but the second hygienist would comment every time I came in that I abandoned her, "playfully" acted like she was going to kick me, and try to guilt trip me. After a few more visits with my first hygienist, the second one found me on Facebook and started messaging me there asking why I changed. I finally left altogether and went to another dentist practice a few years ago. I still miss Dr Miranda, (and my first hygienist is now retired, miss her too), I just dont want to get harassed or be anxious while I get my teeth cleaned. It's a great office otherwise and I miss going there. Everyone else is very courteous and professional, kind.
