Fantastic experience: Dr. Galen came into the room with a big smile on his face. He was incredibly attentive, nothing felt rushed and he even was willing to talk through the research i did on my own using ChatGPT. It's rare to find someone so open minded and interested in "getting it right" as opposed to being right. This is how all medical appointments should be. Oh and the most important part... he's also an incredible surgeon.

Fantastic experience: My dentist told me I needed an extraction and because I was flying in a couple of days she said the best oral surgeon, Dr Douglas Galen, was the one to call. Dr Galen’s ofc got me in for a mid morning appointment the following day. Understand, I dislike dentists and feel even less for oral surgeons. I am also petrified of them. I arrived on time for the procedure. A very quick form filling and then directly to the room. Clean. Bright. Comfy chair. A couple of quick verifications, and Dr Galen comes in, explains what he has to do, asks if I understand. Yes. Lie back, open wide, bite down on what seems like a rolling pin handle, a small pinch, and the numbing started. He’s smooth, I thought. Wait, no pain? He’s fast too! I’m looking at the overhead lamp, and then suddenly he covers my eyes. The nurse assistant gets an instruction. 2 more minutes the doctor says. And then I’m getting new instructions while the chair back is raised. 35 minutes. Boom! More instructions, some paperwork, and I’m out of there. I won’t lie. There is a little pain and discomfort. The office has called twice to check on me. I’m fine. Took some pain meds and antibiotics, looking forward to a soft dinner and ice cream dessert. I’d be thrilled if I never saw another oral surgeon ever again, but if I have to, it will undoubtedly be Dr Galen.

I read online many horror stories about dry socket, difficult procedures gone wrong, broken teeth, painful recovery, etc. Dr. Galen told me exactly what to expect, including Day 3 would be the hardest, and he was exactly right, every step of the way. My longtime dentist said there are two kinds of dentists and oral surgeons in Los Angeles. Those who practice in L.A. to make a lot of money and those who practice in L.A. to care for their make their patients' lives better. Dr. Galen is the latter. I didn't need to create a perfect mouth. I needed to stop recurrent infections and TMJ caused by all 4 impacted wisdom teeth. Dr. Galen listened to how I wanted to feel and he recommended the best course of treatment to reach my goals. He is kind, handsome, thoughtful, calm and confident. I was told he's the best oral surgeon in Los Angeles and that turned out to be correct. My recovery process was excellent. Dr. Galen made the post-surgery follow up calls himself. Surgery, a big decision, should be done by the best possible surgeon. That's Dr. Galen.

Negative experience: When I was younger I was referred to Dr Galen for an oral surgery. We went in for a consultation and he told us he could do the surgery right then and there. Which when I was younger I was scared. Instead of comforting me Dr Galen said, “ big boys don’t cry.” I still think about what he said. Would not recommend to anyone.

Fantastic experience: When it comes to dental surgery, Dr. Galen is peerless, a top talent, the comsummate professional. And his office is a ship shape operation top to bottom. I could not be in better hands.

Fantastic experience: My regular dentist gave me a referral to Dr. Galen after observing gum deterioration associated with a six-year old molar implant. I felt completely at ease from the moment I walked in to Dr. Galen’s office. Dr.Galen suggested looking more closely using a panoramic x-ray which confirmed ongoing bone loss. He recommended I have the existing implant removed and a new one installed. Surgery was scheduled a few weeks later (after my planned vacation). His assistant made me comfortable and explained what would follow and answered a couple of questions I had. The surgery took about 30 minutes. I felt no pain, absolutely none. Two hours after returning home I took a 30-minute walk in my neighborhood. I’m quite confident that the remaining course of action through completion will be equally smooth.
