Fantastic experience: Dr. G is the best Dentist, period. I came all the way from Tennessee to get some work done, it was worth every minute of the 13 hour drive. The care and precision provided is honestly hard to find anywhere else. Lots of my family and friends drive from all over the area to see Dr. G specifically, even though there are dentists much closer, which should tell you all you need to know. If you are on the fence, Dr. G is the best decision you could make.
Fantastic experience: I had moved out of the area 3-1/2 years ago and moved a little closer, my drive is still over one hour away, and still made my choice to come back to Shield Dental. I had a great experience with my checkup and my cleaning. I felt like I had never left. I was told they missed me and thanked me for coming back.
Fantastic experience: Once again my exam and cleaning was top notch. Dr. Ghorbani was his usual thorough, friendly, and gregarious self. His staff was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. As a testament to how much we appreciate Dr. Ghorbani’s care, despite moving to South Carolina, we remain his clients and travel back to Virginia for appointments.

Fantastic experience: Nicest dentist and hygienist ever! Dr. G and Katie (the assistant) could not have been kinder and more thorough with the cleanings of my 3 young children and myself. Dr. G even squeezed in a needed cavity filling and counseled the girls on how to floss and clean to avoid future cavities. I hate going to the dentist usually, but after switching to this dentist, I no longer feel this way! Receptionists were both very nice too! Highly recommend!!!

Positive experience: Doctor was reasonable, treatment goals seemed conservative and not trying to find things to do to charge for. REALLY appreciated the hygienist, Chelsea. She did an amazing job, the best cleaning I’ve ever had. Almost no pain despite a lot of tartar removal, and my teeth looked AMAZING after she was done. Edited in April 2026 - Chelsea is no longer there. The person who cleaned my teeth did not do nearly as good of a job. My teeth were cleaned today, but they're still stained yellow.

Negative experience: I have been a client for a few years. It was am always a comfortable, informative, and friendly visit. Things recently changed where I left this practice. Appointments were rushed and unprofessional. Cleanings and checkups were no longer thorough and basically a waste of time. Very poor performance for a longtime client.

Positive experience: Knowledgable staff, great service as usual However, hygienist needs to communicate some more and speak up. I could count how many words she spoke during 1 hour. Fantastic experience: My wife and I went to Arlington Center for Dentistry (ACD) for years and were happy, but the drive was too far after moving. We had a history of bad experiences before ACD, but Shield Dental was thankfully a phenomenal experience. The practice has the most advanced imaging tech and does a full work up to understand your teeth and gums and talk through everything. In addition, Shield takes a conservative approach to cavities, meaning they’ll only fill the cavities when absolutely necessary. Shield has immediately become our new family dentist, and if you’re in the Burke area I’d 100% recommend giving them a try.

Fantastic experience: I came in as a first time patient in need of an extraction and implant for a cracked tooth. I was in a lot of pain and most dentists in the area were closed Saturdays, but I was able to get an appointment Saturday morning! As a person who is normally nervous about going to the dentist, the entire staff made the process completely stress free. What a professional and accommodating practice! Negative experience: This review is about their billing and those who are responsible for managing correspondence with clients. I visited today and was told there was an issue with my last cleaning being denied by insurance. The cleaning was seven months ago and I never received any correspondence from the team at Shield Dental stating they had issues filing an insurance claim until I was in the office today for my cleaning. I was then asked if I could call my own insurance. This matter could and should have been handled with a phone call. I was really disappointed with how this matter was handled. They do such a great job confirming appointments via text but they couldn't call me prior to my appointment letting me know there was a known issue. I wasted two hours driving back and forth to DC for an appointment that was ultimately cancelled.

We appreciate the time you have taken for the feedback. As a courtesy we verify patient insurance information prior to any visits. However, beyond the information we receive we are not able to modify or correct any clerical errors on behalf of any patient; we do not own the policy. Furthermore, due to recent market events, most insurances will keep us on hold for hours at a time and we kindly asked our patients to get involved when we have exhausted all our options. We try to work with our patients as a team to get insurances to pay for claims. As courtesy when we know our patients are in the right and insurance are just being a pain, we do not invoice our patients. Based on your feedback we are considering a change to our invoice policy. That the entire team at shield dental is phenomenal and they truly go above and beyond. From the minute you walk in the door your graciously welcomed by the front desk, and every step of the way you are treated with respect and professionalism from the dental hygienist to the dentist himself. All of the staff are exceptional but Chelsea really goes out of her way to brighten your day and your smile. I appreciate how clean the entire office is and it seems like they are up to speed with all the latest technology.
