Fantastic experience: I phoned for an appointment to have a lower tooth examined as I felt something had chipped off. The technician was most cordial and helpful and listened to my situation. After taking an Xray she explained to me that I had lost the top portion of a crown. Dr. Swain examined me and explained in detail what most likely happened, and it would be wise to have a new top to the crown to prevent food logging in between the teeth and causing decay. An appointment will be forth coming to have the work completed. He reassured me not to worry and that it is a straight forward procedure. On April 11 Dr. Swaine implanted the new crown which fit perfectly. I'm extremely pleased with his work and that of his staff. I highly recommend Harbortown Dental for anyone having to have dental work. Dick Tanis

I had a routine cleaning that felt like it was possibly the most thorough cleaning I have ever had done. Also, the dental tech measured my gums... something I don't think I've ever had done before. I feel like I'm in good hands here and they are following proper procedures better than my old office was. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I was having issues with a tooth and called the Friday before Labor Day. I knew the office would be closed, but wanted to request an appointment on the following Tuesday (the next open day). Dr. Swain heard the message on Saturday and called then to check on me. When I told him that I would like an appointment on Tuesday, he immediately scheduled one for Tuesday morning. I very much appreciate his phone call and setting up an appointment so quickly. I have been a patient of Dr. Swain’s since 1987, which says a lot. I always feel that he and his staff are genuinely interested in helping me to maintain my dental health.

Fantastic experience: I recently had a dental cleaning done at Harbortown Dental in Grand Haven. Sarah, the hygienist was very thorough and the ultrasonic equipment made it "almost" enjoyable (we are talking about the dentist after all). Nothing like that clean teeth feeling! I find the entire team at Harbortown to be friendly and professional, so if you are looking for a Dentist give them a call.

Negative experience: Swain did a root canal in office despite me telling him I could feel the drill. It was one of the most traumatic dentist experiences of my life. He then packed that tooth with a material that the eventual oral surgeon I met with called "out of date". This material caused my jaw bone to begin to deteriorate. The oral surgeon fixed the damage and got me on a path of healing. When I called Swain to discuss this he refused to even acknowledge that this all happened and wouldn't even consider accountability. This practice is out of date, and lacks humanity. Steer clear. Edit for the reply below: I brought this to Swains attention and he laughed at me on the phone and ignored any path to restitution. I hadn’t been back since, so 12 years sounds right, but my old review was no longer linked to your practice so I wanted to put it back out there so future customers would know what kind of man they are dealing with.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at Harbortowne dental they did a great job cleaning my teeth told me I need to floss a little bit better and do some good brushing and I had no cavities. No problems with my teeth. Everything was great and I really liked my hygienist. Aspen should a really good job and took good care of me.

Fantastic experience: My husband doesn’t do social media, but asked me to post the following on his behalf: As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. Of course, I already had a great feeling as my wife and two kids go to Dr. Swain and have been trying to get me to go there for years. Once again, she was right (darn it). When I walked into the cozy office, Rose, the office manager greeted me cheerfully and professionally, and I should say I was grateful she called me when and got me an earlier appointment because of a cancellation. Asphn was my hygienist spent a good deal of quality time thoroughly cleaning my teeth. I should say that she was so professional, I was inspired to keep my teeth cleaned better. She didn’t knick me or make a slip up the whole time. It was more painless than I had come to expect over the years. I commented that she must have been a great athlete because she was so coordinated. Dr. Swain was also tremendous. He took his time to explain the status of my dental conditions; I could tell he was earnest and not just going through the motions. He pointed out a couple of options to repair a cracked filling, but without any pressure. If you throw out the x-rays, it was tremendously positive experience - considering it was a dental visit. I would give more than five stars if I could. - Max

Dr. Swain explained everything he was seeing with my teeth and any concerns he had were explained and pointed out. Negative experience: UPDATED REVIEW: After being a patient for almost 10 years I was “fired“ because they wouldn’t take Medicare. After paying into the system for years, I feel that the system is now rejecting us seniors. I thought we had an almost family-like relationship. This was a real blow to me. (incidentally, I found another dentist that I liked and after being a year there, that dentist also “fired” me because they wouldn’t take Medicare. What’s going on in this country? 2019:A superior experience from front desk to dental chair! Dr. Swain is very personable and competent, working with you as an individual to best meet your needs. The dental hygienists do a great job. Highly recommended!
