Fantastic experience: Tufton Family Dentistry is a special place. They have treated me (and my family) like, well, family since I started as a patient there in the 1970s. Dr. (Michael) Tufton has done great things with the practice developed by his parents, Dr. (Peter) and Linda Tufton. Modern dental services in a small practice environment is the best of both worlds.

Negative experience: On my visit to this dental office I was deeply concerned about the overall condition of the practice and its standards of care. The office itself is outdated, with aging equipment that is worn down, poorly maintained, and in some cases falling apart. Even the chairs in the front office were visibly deteriorating, with the leather peeling and coming apart. What troubled me most were the hygiene practices I observed. I did not see proper handwashing between patients, the hygienist walks in and out the room with the same gloves on and the dentist moved from room to room without washing his hands. During my appointment, he did not wear a mask while standing over you breathing out his mouth, which made me uncomfortable. I also overheard two staff members coughing continuously, and one could not speak due to being sick, which raised additional concerns about health and safety. I was also alarmed to see that the dental instruments were not brought out in sealed sterilization pouches. Instead, the instruments were already laid out on the table before you come in the room, which made me question whether proper sterilization protocols were being followed. The hygienist relied primarily on manual scaling tools, and when attempting to use the ultrasonic scaling machine, water sprayed everywhere, suggesting the equipment may not have been functioning properly. Another unusual aspect of the visit was that the dentist appeared to rely heavily on artificial intelligence software to explain dental condition, rather than providing a thorough hands on explanation himself. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional and unsettling. Cleanliness, updated equipment, and strict health protocols are essential in any medical setting, and unfortunately, I did not feel confident that those standards were being met. The older lady at the front desk is rude and unprofessional in person and on the phone. I do not want my name used.

Fantastic experience: All these years and I didn’t know you could only post one review until just now, I’ve never posted twice for the same business before so you’re my first double review! it won’t let me add a 2nd review. So, I’m just going to update my old one and leave the old dentist quote picture as proof of the prices here . My filling fell out I got when I was about 20 years old and it put a Hole in my tooth And I had to get it fixed immediately the dentist over here said they couldn’t get me in For about 14 days so I’ve stuck with Dr. Peter Tufton since the late 70s any time something goes wrong while I’m out of state, I don’t even really think twice anymore. I book the flight, go home, and let the only dentist I truly trust handle it…. . The dentists where I live now always give me very long waits, and sky-high prices, and dramatic diagnoses that don’t even match what I’m actually feeling. . Last time Just Because A simple filling falls out, they’re talking about pulling the tooth, bone grafts, sinus lifts, and handing me a bill that looks like a car payment LOL! and the tooth isn’t even hurting.!... … Although it was Almost. half a tooth. It felt like it was for me. . So, I did what I always do… I went back to Dr. Tufton. . He looked at it, and fixed it without any of the pressure, panic, or Sky-high crazy pricing I keep getting from the dentist. Here I don’t have to worry about scare tactics. Or No “we have to pull that tooth!” Just honestly from someone who actually cares about saving teeth, not removing them.!! And that was a serious mistake on my part, and I should have never let them pull that back tooth. Because Dr Peter could have saved it. and I made a very serious mistake. because you only get one tooth. . I’ve been going to Dr. Peter Tufton since I was a kid maybe ’77 or ’78 and he has never once Done me wrong. And He’s always kept me out of trouble more times than I can count. . I’m grateful he’s still in the same office after all these years and still doing the kind of work that’s almost impossible to find anymore. Especially here in Midland Texas They are crazy here and it takes forever to get an appointment Like two weeks.!! . There’s a reason I’ll spend two or $300 on a plane ticket. And fly across the country before I let anyone else touch my teeth. Because when you find a dentist like Dr. Tufton, you don’t replace him you better stick with him for life. And it’s the Same thing with a car mechanic. If you find a good car mechanic, you better stick with him. And don’t find out later. That that mechanic wasn’t any good. When your car breaks down. On the highway. It’s too late. Same thing with your tooth. Only more severe. Because you only get one. . And I have to Mention that the last time I went in, his son Michael fixed my tooth because Dr. Peter was off that day And I didn’t have time. To hang around. I had to get back To Midland, and the funny thing is I remember seeing Michael as a kid in the hallway when he was about 7 years old! …then again when he was maybe 12 or so !! lol and now he fixed my tooth! But He did a great job because he had a great teacher! . So, I wanted to say Thank you again, Dr. Tufton. Truly.!!! To both you guys! Thank you so much. I sincerely appreciate everything. Especially. Keeping my original tooth.!

What I absolutely loved most tho, was despite the many years I have let my dental care be non-existent and having many cracked, missing or just bad teeth...NOBODY made me feel anything other than welcoming. I always thought that once I finally was able to get dental again and see a dentist that I'd pretty much guaranteed get at least a little something of an admonishment for the shape my mouth was in but NOPE!!! Can't say enough how much that made me feel!!! I'm glad this was the dentist my finger fell on!

I have been going to Dr. Peter Tufton for over 50 years, I also see Dr. Michael Tufton, his son. They are both excellent dentists. Their staff are friendly.
