Fantastic experience: Dr. Short and his entire team were amazing! I needed an emergency root canal before leaving the country, and he was kind enough to fit me in as a same-day patient. He explained everything thoroughly, talked me through the procedure since I was very nervous, and made me feel comfortable the entire time. The procedure was quick, successful, and I had no pain the next day—just normal soreness. His assistant was also incredibly kind and gentle. She even kept her hand on my shoulder during the numbing injections, which helped calm my nerves so much. Dr. Short also called the next day to check in, which really shows how much he cares about his patients. I would not have been able to take my vacation trip had it not been for Dr. Short! Wonderful experience from start to finish—thank you to the whole team!

Fantastic experience: I was a person that was terrified just hearing the word root canal. I got up the nerves to make an appointment with Dr. Short. The level of comfort I received when I arrived was very calming. Dr. Short explained everything he was going to do. I was still fearful but I trusted he was going to take care of me. He started the procedure and a few minutes later it was over. I was shocked! For me it was like getting a filling. This is day two and I’m having zero pain just some soreness. Fantastic experience: I was referred to Dr. Short and Apex Endodontics by my general dentist who originally performed a root canal on my tooth 10 years ago. After having the chipped crown replaced a week later I develop a pimple on my gum, long story short infection developed and implant was mentioned. Dr. Short and his staff did an amazing job examining the situation re-treating the missed pockets. The procedure was performed using new equipment that allowed Dr. Short to see through the tooth while performing the procedure. The procedure went as Dr. Short explained it would! No issues, no pain! I would highly recommend Dr. Short and his staff! Save yourself time and money by having A Board Certified Endodontist perform your root canals and let your dentist do the general maintenance! Fantastic experience: Dr Short and his staff were top-notch , efficient professional , comprehensive and compassionate…..from the time my root canal appointment was scheduled by Joanne , upon my arrival on day of the dental procedure when I was greeted by Angela , until the entire root canal procedure was completed , Dr Short utilized state of the art technology while patiently , gently , and with expertise “ discussed /talked me thru “ every phase of the surgical process which ensured my comfort , allowed me to relax /breathe and lastly made me feel more composed and confident . To my surprise, the 45 minute root canal was pain-free as Dr Short explained. The Dr’s surgical assistant Victoria ,recommended that I immediately take oral OTC analgesics that were provided to reduce any inflammation/and or gum soreness ( not experienced) before leaving the office . Dr Short reminded me that “ most patients return back to work after a root canal .” Afterwards to my surprise, I felt so good I admittedly went shopping instead ! (Smile ). On a more serious note, I meditated on Phillipians 4:6 prior to my root canal surgery asking God to release my anxieties while praying for the best endodontic care to relieve my chronic teeth/gum pain and sensitivity issues. I now have a testimony that God answered my prayers on March 11, 2026. Today I no longer suffer from dental related pain and the quality of life is greatly enhanced. Fantastic experience: Dr. Short and his entire staff were amazing. They were patient with me during both of my appointments. Dr. Short is very educated and knowledgeable when it comes to root canals and my entire experience was amazing. My insurance is not in network for Dr. Short however due to him being highly recommended, i did not mind proceeding with the procedure. Dr. Short and his stafff made sure i was comfortable throughout the whole procedure and also called me this morning (the next day) to check on me. Got to give the Doc his props! Oftentimes, I have some anxiety about going to the dentist but Dr. Short made me feel completely at ease with his gentle and focused approach. During my procedure he provided clear explanation and expectations every step of the way. The entire staff is friendly and professional. The office is clean and modern. The decor is calming. And the equipment is up-to-date and high-tech. While you wait in the common area you can enjoy a brief read of one of his books [i.e. "In the Eye of A Storm" and "Getting to the Root of Your Problem"] which are very inspirational! Dr. Short as an Endodontist gets first dibs in my book! The overall client service "wowed" me, for real! Negative experience: Wasted $150 dollars just for him to tell me I needed a root canal. 3 minutes and $150 down the drain. Provided no education, not informative at all. Not friendly or helpful. Hope this helps other people save their money.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with Dr. Short and the entire staff there. I called Monday, 11/24/2025, for a root canal consult that took place the very next day in the morning. I later came back to get the root canal done on the same day, and it was painless yet efficient. All of this happened right before Thanksgiving, and I was still able to eat 2 days after the procedure; they recommended soft food, so I followed those instructions. They verified my insurance quickly, answered all my questions, and gave me reading materials about the procedure and his years of experience specializing in this type of dental expertise at the highest level. This office is affordable, clean, very sanitized, professional, pleasant, and highly personable. I have another appointment coming up soon, and I can not wait to get the other tooth fixed. As of today, 12/1/2025, I have no pain from the root canal at all, and it was well worth the experience. I recommend Dr. Short-Apex Endodontics Office with the highest regard to anyone seeking a first-class endodontic experience with no pain.

Also, he’s got all the right tech and tools to make the experience as comfortable as possible, so it wasn’t as big of a deal as some people say root canals are.

Fantastic experience: My teeth have circular roots, which makes it impossible to do a proper root canal on me. Or so I've been told by many endodontists. For years I've suffered from generalized, severe sensitivity in my teeth. My dentist thought it was from clenching or grinding in my sleep, so he had me try several night guards but they just made the pain worse. I thought I was doomed to endure throbbing pain in my teeth and gums for the rest of my life. But then my dentist referred me to Dr. Short at Apex Endodontics for a root canal. I warned Dr Short about my circular roots, but it didn’t worry him at all. When he did my root canal he used a microscope, which he said made It possible to see my roots much more clearly. It's nearly a week later and I am completely pain-free for the first time in years, not only in that tooth but in my whole mouth and head. The terrible throbbing pain is gone! The whole experience at Apex Endodontics was great. The staff were all friendly and helpful and there was no waiting at any step of the way. Thank you Dr. Short and your staff!

Fantastic experience: After 2 different dentist visits, last August , I was referred to Dr Short for a root canal procedure. I have gotten root canal procedures before, so I know the process and treatment, but this time my tooth roots are very tinny and curve so , only a specialist could be able to perform the procedure and this was Dr Short . He was very informative about the situation and Thanks God he did the procedure the same day of my consultation because I was in so much pain. Procedure took almost 2 hours and he told me it was hard but it was done successfully . His staff made me feel so comfortable and they are very professional and kind. He provided pain pills before I left the clinic and he did check on me the following day (I could not answer his call but he left a VM) and it was vey kind. Paperwork was done in right time. I’m so glad I got my root canal with Dr Short! I would give 10 stars to him if I could .

Fantastic experience: Dr. Short is the TRUTH! I had a root canal many years ago and it was an awful experience. I told everyone in the office how afraid I was of the pain and they assured me that I would be taken care of. They were right! Dr. Short was informative, welcoming, gentle (as much as he could be), and considerate. I didn’t feel a thing really. Even the numbing process was bearable. Normal soreness after the procedure. I was able to get in to see him immediately and was also able to get a root canal on two teeth the same day of my consult!! Negative experience: Dr. Short was very professional. He personally called the next day to make sure everything was okay. I had to go back to Apex Endodontics in Smyrna, Georgia on July 29th (first visit was July 13th). The symptoms I had before getting a retreatment on a root canal still existed. I had to go to my personal doctor’s office in August to get more amoxicillin because I was in pain (Dr. Short didn’t see a reason to prescribe more amoxicillin/he didn’t see anything wrong with the x-rays). The pain has come back again. I will seek assistance elsewhere. I decided to go to a different Endodontist. I found out there was an infection (in the lower left corner of the root) and decided to get a dental implant. I’ve been pain free for four years now.

Negative experience: I wish I could do zero stars. I went to visit Dr.Rico Short and they charged me $600 for a 360 X-ray. I didn’t even need it that was a way to make extra money. They also charged my insurance provider $600 plus a consultation fee. He never performed any services to me. I would not recommend anyone to use his services. They charge you as soon as you walk thru the door. Plus the dentist and staff is very rude. This facility is a big rip off. Do not go there you will regret it.

Fantastic experience: I worked in the dental field for 17 years before starting a new profession. Therefore, I am very careful when it comes to dental treatment and providers. And anyone that knows me knows I am a fanatic when it comes to dental hygiene. I go through a tube of toothpaste in a little over 2 weeks, floss twice daily and water floss nightly. I had a root canal on tooth #30, 46 years ago. During a visit to my general dentist they took routine X-rays and noticed the root canal failed. It was a major blow for someone that takes meticulous care of their teeth. My sister in law is a dentist in OH and she referred me and her close friend to Dr. Short. Both of us are happy! He is very down to earth & friendly and he loves what he does. My root canal turned out to be difficult due to the old materials in the canals, and he discovered a 4th canal. But he was determined to save my tooth. He called to check on me this morning and I was surprised (no one does that anymore). His chair side assistant is very nice as well as his front office receptionist. I would refer Dr. Short to anyone that needs an endodontist.

Negative experience: I am giving this rating not for the level of professionalism that I received from Dr. Short. He did an awesome job (5). I am giving this rating for the staff I encountered after I tried to get a work document signed for a part time job I’m working for this season. I was told that they only give one day excuse for a root canal. Really!!! Nerve pain. My primary dentist gave me 4 days for work when I was in pain. Before I left his office from getting the root canal, Dr. Short told me that I may experience discomfort and pain for a week. Even the instructions he gave me said if I experience pain after two weeks to contact his office. I did experience pain for a week. I went back to his office to get the document signed and I was told since I did not call about the pain, they have no way of knowing I was in pain. I was only told to call after two weeks.I took pain medicine as he instructed. Also, I was told by the office staff that he does celebrities and they don’t complain. What!! Everyone’s level of pain is not going to be the same.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Short and his team did an excellent job on my root canal procedure! There was no pain and very little discomfort. Dr Short is highly skilled and ensures the job is done properly. It’s hard to find such an excellent Endodontist. His nurses and front desk staff are welcoming and put you at ease. If you’re putting off a root canal go and see Dr Short!

Negative experience: Very rude dentist. Extremely unprofessional communication style. Instead of requesting my dental records or calling my dentist regarding the history of my crown, he spent more time discussing how he didn’t want to jeopardize his license by counting on other dentists who send the wrong records. He expected me to know the exact age of the crown. He just went on and on about his credentials and how he could be making more money on Wall Street. Seems very bitter. I left in the middle of the appointment. His office is old and outdated. Not modern at all. Old paper registration forms, old equipment and inexperienced staff. Brags about being a “celebrity dentist” but that seems like a distant memory for him. Learned that most dentists no longer refer to him.

Fantastic experience: I was a little nervous getting a root canal done but Dr. Short explained the process in detail and made me comfortable with moving forward. I was very happy to check in with Angela, then Victoria prepping me for the procedure. Dr. Short is brilliant and very professional in his craft. Thank you once again Apex Endodontics!

Negative experience: He'll recommend the 3D Xray which is not covered by insurance and it is $600.00. He'll make you feel as if it is required for him to work on your teeth. I received services in October 2023. I had to pay 100% with the guarantee that I would be reimbursed. December comes around and I have not been reimbursed. The reason range from them not receiving the payments to they received payments for a later service but not that service. How. They keep haong they'll call me.back and they haven't. It is not March and they still have no answer. The receptionist was rude and hung up the phone on me. Rico is great but his staff need to be more professional

Fantastic experience: I am, like I suspect many people, very apprehensive when having any dental work done. However, I was put at ease very quickly by Dr. Short and his staff. Dr. Short thoroughly explained the work that needed to be performed and my options. He allowed me to ask questions and patiently answered each question. He performed a retreatment of root canal ( a redo of old work). I was somewhat fearful of the novocaine injections that I suspected that would be needed for the roof of my mouth, but much to my surprise the 2 shots that I needed involved zero pain! Dr. Short also makes you as comfortable as possible during the procedure and even has a TV to watch overhead. He also explains what he is doing throughout the treatment, so there are no surprises. Victoria, his assistant, was also very nice and checked in with me during the procedure to see how I was feeling. Afterwards, Dr. Short asked me to call if I had any issues and even offered an after hours contact number. I had my retreatment done on a Thursday and had no serious problems. However, I was amazed on Monday morning when Dr. Short personally called me to check on my progress. I usually don't write reviews, but I honestly have been so impressed with Dr. Short and his team that I wanted others to benefit from my experience.

Fantastic experience: I put off getting root canal treatment for almost a year because I loathe the Denist chair. It has to be some kind of volunteer torture, LOL. After being convinced that my issue was worsening, I was referred to Dr. Short office. Where I was throughly explained what was going on with my tooth with a fancy Xray and what treatment was needed. I made my appointment, survived the root canal. Dr Short and his staff made me feel comfortable through the root canal process with their friendly and professional demeanor. My questions and concerns were addressed during my office visits and also after office hours while i was home recovering. If I had to do this again I would definitely return to Dr. Short office.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Short is a great endodontist. He was so good with my husband who has Parkinson 's and is hearing impaired. My husband had very little pain following his root canal and had very little pain during the procedure. I would highly recommend Dr. Short.

Fantastic experience: My experience at Apex Endodontics was wonderful. I needed two root canals and I was a little nervous about the process as well as payments. Angela at the front desk was super helpful even before my appointment. She gave me a quick run down of what to expect when I got there and when I arrived, she was very detailed about insurance and costs. Dr. Short explained the procedure step by step and he even gave me images of what was to be done so there was no surprises. Not only that but he took the time to listen to my concerns and answered every question very thoroughly. His assistant was fabulous as well, making me feel very comfortable during the whole visit. Fantastic experience: I was referred to Dr. Short by my dentist for a root canal. On my initial phone call to make my appt Angela was fabulous. She was kind and caring in helping me set up my appt. When I arrived at the office it was incredibly clean. I am a Registered Nurse and kind of a germ freak and cleanliness matters to me. Dr. Short was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. He explained everything going on with my tooth with X-rays he had taken there in his office. His assistant was very efficient and professional in her work of caring for me. As they actually performed the root canal he showed concern that I was numb and could not feel pain. Dr. Short performed my root canal without any difficulty. I had total trust in him as he worked on my tooth. As I checked out both Dr. Short and Angela were at the front desk. Angela handed me a small brown envelope that had OTC pain medication and small cup of water so that I would have pain control BEFORE I left their office!!!! As a Registered Nurse that was incredibly impressive to me. Pain control after a procedure is a huge deal and this practice cared enough about me as a patient to have pain control available immediately after my root canal. Dr. Short also called me at home to check on me and make sure that all was well with my root canal. And all is great with my root canal! Thank you all so much for the excellent dental care you provided me! I would highly recommend Apex Endodontics and Dr. Short for any dental work needed by an Endodontist! Fantastic experience: Dr. Short and his staff was awesome. I needed an deeper root canal. One of his staff took x-ray. Dr.Short showed me and discuss what treatment was best for me to save that tooth. The day of my appiotment to correct the problem; Dr. short explained every detail that he was doing. Fantastic experience: What an amazing experience!! I came in with severe pain from an infection. My general dentist gave me antibiotics and pain medicine that didn’t seem to be working. Dr. Short quickly diagnosed the source of my pain and explain to me what a solution was gonna be. Dr. Short made sure I was scheduled within two weeks despite how busy and packed their schedule is. He also prescribed a stronger anabiotic that work immediately which helped the pain go away. The day of my root canal I of course was nervous about getting a root canal especially about the pain seeing that I had already endured so much pain. Dr. Short reassured me there will be no pain, but I was skeptical. LET ME TELL YOU GUYS SOMETHING….. I felt ZERO pain!! Dr. short and his staff made me feel super comfortable and at ease. I’ve never had a visit go so smooth and painless before. If only he could be my regular dentist because it’s so hard to find a dentist that works fast but still is gentle. Fantastic experience: I’ve had two root canals done by Dr. Short and both were great experiences. The first time I didn’t know what to expect due to hearing a whole lot of horror experiences from other people about their root canals done by other doctors. I can truly say that Dr. Short did an excellent job from start to finish. I did not feel any pain at all during the procedure and it only took around 30 mins. If I ever need another root canal, I will definitely contact him to make it happen and I would highly recommend him to anyone!

Fantastic experience: Dr Short gave me excellent service! I have been to him before and this was my 2nd time. Each time he is gentle with my teeth( I do not like going to the dentist) and very informative with the process he is performing. He walked me thru each step and next thing I knew I was done! Assistants were great also! No pain during and after the process. Took combination of pain pills and after the numbness wore off, there was still no pain. Fantastic experience: Best endodontist I have ever met, I was referred by someone and I am very pleased. Do not go to franchise places, go to private owned! Dr. Short and staff are very professional, very knowledgeable and nobody is confused. I went to sage dental at beginning of the year for two root canals, and they chipped my tooth in the process of drilling too much. Dr. Short is a master at root canals.

Fantastic experience: Dr Short and his staff are the best. I’ve had a few root canals done at a general dentist and have paid the price. After switching dentist I was referred to Dr Short for a root canal. I feared it would be like the ones I had before. But the experience was different, the procedure went really smooth. Like I could tell it was someone who knew what they were doing. After It was finished and I got a new crown put on I knew I made a good choice in Apex. Fast forward 3 years and one of the original root canals I had done at a general family dentist suddenly gets an infection by the roots. So I head back to Dr Short to see what’s the cause and if it’s still salvageable. And of course Dr Short takes a look and says we are good. He can do a retreatment. As it turns out the the original Dr didn’t get all the way to the bottom of the root. Leaving space for the tooth to get an infection. Lesson learned by me was not to be cheap on your teeth. Find the best and take care of your self. Luckily I have Dr Short in my hometown. Thank you Dr Short and staff for being friendly and for the excellent care.
