Experiencia negativa: Lost their best hygenist last month; called me to reschedule without saying why, and when I went in for my appointment today, the receptionist had no record of it. She lied to my face, saying they tried to reach me via phone, email, etc. Beyond unprofessional. Find another dentist.

After contacting our insurer, we learned the visits should have been fully covered. We then reached out to the office, and they confirmed the error and are refunding us over $500. While we appreciate the refund, we’re concerned that we had to identify the issue ourselves and follow up to resolve it. Patients may want to review their bills and insurance statements carefully.

Not only did they take me last minute on a Friday evening the entire staff was AMAZING . Experiencia negativa: Update: This practice did process a refund for my exam without me having to follow up further. I came in to this practice yesterday as a new patient, drawn by the emphasis on a low-stress environment and the large number of reviews praising their ability to work with stressed dental patients. However, my experience there increased my stress tenfold. To start, the tuned-out, unfriendly receptionist informed me there might not be time for a cleaning as part of my new patient exam. This was news to me. I knew I’d need to pay extra for the cleaning—but not that I might need to return for a second visit. This hadn’t been communicated anywhere prior. I see now from other reviewers that this has been a known issue for the past two years, with the owner repeatedly promising to improve communication. The next contact I had was with Shelby, a dental hygienist. When she asked about my history with dental X-rays, I told her I was sensitive to radiation and so tried to get them less frequently. (I was fluey for two days following my last mammogram.) She then informed me that I “had to” get X-rays. I stopped her and said: “There is no have to. I always have choice.” This was not well received. After she pointed out that I seemed stressed, her next words were an ultimatum: If I wanted to be a patient at this practice, I had to get X-rays. In response, I exercised my right to choose and walked out. During this exchange, Shelby was abrasive, unempathetic, and coercive. There were a number of empathetic, emotionally intelligent responses she could have given to work with both my legitimate need to limit radiation and her legitimate need to get X-rays to provide high quality dental care. Empathy, or even just acknowledgment of my concerns, would have been a great starting place. Offering to explain their X-ray process/amounts of radiation…offering to split up imaging between two visits…offering to speak with the dentist to see if some compromise were possible. These all would have been great responses, and I would have been open to negotiating. What she gave me instead was a power-over move that ended discussion. Now I’m out the cost of the exam I didn’t get, and I have to start all over finding a dental practice where the owner ensures their staff are actually compassionate and caring. If you’re going to sell yourself as offering a “shame-free, low-stress environment,” then please walk the talk. Make sure your staff are trauma informed and understand how to communicate with empathy. Bells and whistles, like weighted blankets, are good adjuncts but what matters are the PEOPLE.

I thought my teeth were beyond repair because they were even more crooked than before, but Dr. Jennifer Moor addressed my needs, listened to me, and did an excellent job. Experiencia positiva: I am a new patient and came in for an initial visit and cleaning. The hygienist was very thorough, however after about an hour of various exams, a few X-rays, and a bunch of photographs, she said that there wasn’t enough time left to do the cleaning and I would have to come back. Seemed odd to me that they didn’t schedule enough time to get to the cleaning. I am ok with going back but I imagine for some people with busier schedules, this could be a problem.

I didn’t realize how well they did until I was driving home and thinking about how smoothly it went, which the dentist never usually goes. Anyways, thanks for your patience with me during my extraction, you guys made something scary and anxiety inducing a whole lot easier for me. Experiencia negativa: This is a review I have considered writing very carefully and one I do not write lightly. I began as a client when this practice first opened and posted a glowing review — many of the things I shared in that initial review remain true for me. However, other experiences with this practice have led me to want to expand on my initial feedback. The Good: This office is incredibly LGBTQ, trauma, and neurodiversity informed. They are accommodating, compassionate, and have excellent support tools (headphones, TVs, weighted blankets). Communication with the office is generally easy, with texting as an option. When my dental care was simple, I felt incredibly taken care of. The Bad: I needed a root canal and crown placement on a tooth. Crowns are meant to last 10+ years. Within the first six months, my crown (both temporary and permanent ones) fell off more than three times. The more you remove and reattach crowns, the more your tooth is ground down. Eventually, there was not enough tooth to safely attach a crown. I was referred out to an office for a crown lengthening, that office was booked out for 6+ months. The longer a tooth does not have a crown, there is increased likelihood for complications. I tried to get in to other offices, but for various reasons was unable to make it happen. By the time I was seen by the referred office, my tooth had gravitated so far over that it would be impossible to attach a crown and was impacting the neighboring tooth. I now need an extraction. The office was initially responsive to my (justified) upset over their mistakes. They covered the expense of my crown lengthening consult with the referred office, as an example. However, and quite unexpectedly, after that consult this office kicked me out of the practice. Whatever problems in our provider-client relationship were not given an opportunity to be addresses proactively. In fact, I was completely unaware there was a problem. To be frank: I felt abandoned in a problem this office is, at least in part, responsible for creating. It was a disappointing and damaging end to what I had hoped would be a long term provider-client relationship. I do not recommend this office for more than routine cleaning.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my 11yo to Refresh after we had a bad experience with another practice. My child has some sensory issues and has had difficulty with cleanings and basic dental care in the past. The staff was so kind and gentle with my child, who had to have some baby teeth extracted. The procedure was quick and painless, and the staff made my child feel safe and explained everything well. My child was able to wear a weighted blanket (provided by the office) and watch Netflix during the procedure. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the hygienist, to Dr. Aurora were wonderful. After our visit, we were so impressed that we transferred care for our whole family to Refresh.

My primary care physician suggested that I give Refresh Valley Dental a call, explaining to me that they handle patients like me with extreme care and understanding. Today was my first visit. My hygienist, Shelby, listened to my story and was sympathetic and supportive. She talked me through everything she was going to do and patiently waited when I needed a break. The staff offered many things like, TV, music, stress balls, and weighted blankets to calm my nerves. Thanks to Shelby and Dr. Moore I have a comprehensive plan laid out before me and thanks to their extra time I know what to expect at each upcoming procedure. Dr. Aurora is caring and thorough: she helped to identify a condition that previous dentists have either missed or ignored. As an older patient who struggles with mouth discomfort, my teeth cleaning with Shelby was the gentlest, least abrasive of any I’ve ever had.

Experiencia fantástica: This office is great! The team is very kind, understanding and accommodating. I'm neurodivergent with sound sensitivity and the team was very helpful in making sure I was comfortable, they consistently checked in on me before using any noisy tools and were even willing to turn the music off for my comfort. They were also very eager to answer my questions about dental health and provide advice for better care. It feels like a safe and friendly environment. I'm very glad I found this dentist!

They know ALL about teeth and have been more than happy to explain stuff to me that I was nervous about. Accommodating, pleasant and trys there hardest to have you feel as comfortable as possible (not the easiest being the dentist). I was also able to set up a payment plan for what my insurance didn't cover. I would 100% recommend them to my peers.

My biggest fear was the injection, but Dr Aurora made me feel comfortable and properly prepared me so that I felt no pain during the injection. Thanks to Refresh Valley Dental, I am getting my smile back. Thank you all. My recent trip to the dentist was on June 20th for the cleaning. My visit was pleasant and informative. Moni, the dental hygienist, was gentle. The entire procedure went as planned in a professional and timing manner. I strongly recommend Refresh Valley Dental.

Experiencia fantástica: My 2 molar extraction on Friday went about as well as a 2 molar extraction can go. Dr. Aurora and Mandy were a good team. Dr. A's rendition of "Gimme 3 Steps" was particularly soothing. When the music went down, I even offered some help. It was a total team effort. It's Saturday night and I've only used 8 OTC pain relievers in 30 hours. That must be a testament to her fine care. I also want to thank Joan Erwin for suggesting her.
