After consulting with a number of specialists, the consensus was clear. Dr. Puterman is the best at what he does in the DMV—and my particular case (don't ask) required the best. I confess, I was skeptical. But a little more than a half a decade (and several surgeries later (don't ask), I have a functional mouth again. Not only teeth that work but teeth that look great. Best of all, the pain that tormented me for decades is gone. GONE. Obliterated. Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Puterman stuck by me. And I by him and his extraordinary staff and colleagues. Dr. Puterman was always honest. Always fair. Always honorable. Always kind. And always decent. This is not what I would have expected given the intrinsic challenges of my case and the fickle nature of human biology that doesn't always cooperate with titanium and bone grafts. And yet—here I am—finally some five plus years later. Grateful beyond words for my experience with Dr. Puterman. Don't get me wrong. I won't miss being in his chair for scores of additional hours. I'm a grateful patient. And what makes me especially grateful is that we made it—together. If you desire the best that modern dentistry has to offer, there is no one better—more capable, skillful, and honorable. I could not recommend anyone more highly. Puterman is the best.

Experiencia negativa: My experience at Implants DC was a nightmare, and I regret trusting them with my dental implant procedure. I went in for a consultation expecting clear options, but was rushed through the exam without fully explaining risks or alternatives. The surgery itself was botched, intense pain and swelling lingered for weeks beyond what they promised, and my follow-up calls went unanswered for days. The office was clean, but the care felt impersonal and profit-driven. This left me in more discomfort than before.

Experiencia negativa: I would follow hygienist Robin S. Melnick anywhere she goes. Robin is thorough, gentle with her hands and very pleasant to visit. Each time I left there with a big smile on my face and never missed. Front desk Cynthia is the finest to work with. She’s supper friendly, extremely patient and has a great smile. Sadly, I had quite stiff visits with the doctors in this office. They stuck you with gum check up unannounced that you don’t need just to bill you extra money. This gum checks were unnecessary because I have another general dentist that this office required me to have in ordered for me to continue seeing hygienist Robin. Two extra charges from Doctor Barth from his unannounced visits were dishonest and unprofessional. On top of that he was not my surgeon. Doctor Puterman’s gum surgery was so painful for days after because he sent you home without gum guards and tiny cold pads that did not work. On top of that, there was no following up on how patients doing after. I told him how much pain I had on my recheck-up visit and how long it was. He did say that I should have reached out to him. Though, I did ask his assistant about the pain relief gum guard, they said they don’t do that on Dr. Puterman’s patients. The unpleasant surgery experience is still staying with me to today. I had had other gum surgeries with Dr. Levine, their former partner that was super gentle, caring, kind and friendly, whom would always keep up with my surgery for days after. Sadly, he now retired. Please adopt doctor’s Levine’s pain relieve of gum guard after surgery if you can as I also have had a few friends that went to doctor Puterman and they also complained about his after care for pain is lacking. I definitely give Robin and Cynthia five stars, but sadly not for the doctors in this office. When you had the best, it is quite hard to settle for the rest.

He is so well-known that I was referred to him by an orthodontist from out of state! From my very first phone interaction with Cynthia, I knew I was in the right place. She worked tirelessly to get me in as soon as possible, understanding how distraught I was. And she even thanked me for sharing my story! Who even takes the time to do that these days? From my first contact with the receptionist to the person who reviewed post-op instructions and sent me on my way, the staff treated me with warmth and kindness. During the procedure, Dr. Barth checked in with me to make sure that I was okay and not in pain. In the evening, when I needed a prescription for pain medication, he acted efficiently - I had the medication in hand before he contacted me to make sure that I had it. Experiencia fantástica: I had to have a very complicated procedure, that had been brewing for a long time because one of my dentists didn't catch it early enough. Finally a new dentist looked at it and said it was too complicated for her to do, so she HIGHLY recommended that I see Dr. Puterman. I was also very uneasy about having anything painful done. I met Dr. Puterman and was blown away by his calm personality. He took the time to explain all of the options to me. I opted for sedation because of my fear and am thrilled that I did. I quietly slept through the procedure and never felt a thing. This was surprising since he had to pull my front tooth. Now, six hours later I have had no pain at all. I haven't even taken any pain meds. The overall experience was AMAZING! Much better than I expected. On top of that when I got his bill it was way lower than I expected. The icing on the cake I guess... I loved the staff because they put me at ease and were very professional. I would highly recommend Dr. Puterman to anyone I know. If you need this kind of stuff done I would not go to anyone else!

I was really worried because my previous periodontist/oral surgeon- Dr. Levine had retired, but now I know the practice is in good hands with Dr. Barth around. Dr. Barth was very patient with me at explaining everything and him and his team made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure. Post-operatively, I had no issues and he followed up afterwards to personally check on me. In addition to being highly skilled and experienced having trained at Harvard/worked in military settings, you can tell he is a very honest and down to earth person by speaking with him. If your case is challenging, he will be honest with his expectations for your outcome and I appreciate that quality in a provider. Also, Eve and the front desk staff at Implants DC are excellent. Experiencia fantástica: Excellent practice. Dr. Puterman gives you his complete attention, & is extremely patient oriented. His staff is extremely professional, and genuinely nice.

Experiencia negativa: I had a panic attack during an IV sedation appointment with Dr. Puterman. Dr. Puterman was unable to sedate me (which I get, that happens sometimes). However, he didn’t stop. He continued to work on me through my panic attack, and never even reached out to my husband who was in the waiting room. I couldn't speak due to the dental dam, bite block and all the instruments in my mouth, so I just lay there, hyperventilating with tears streaming down my face. I was severely traumatized. Weeks later, when I approached Dr. Puterman about the trauma, he dismissed my concerns, gaslighting me by questioning the validity of my experience. He even went on to tell me that his family member’s panic attacks did not present in that fashion so I must not have been having one. He called me by the wrong name, patronized me, and completely disregarded my concerns about my very disturbing experience. To make matters worse, he went as far as involving my father (a retired sedation dentist who administered the exam to Dr. Puterman for his IV sedation license) to dispute my account. He tried to get my father to agree that I wasn’t having a panic attack and that he didn’t do anything wrong (News flash - My dad is well aware of my history and conducted all my dental treatment up until his retirement. He didn’t agree). If you seek compassionate care, and especially if you are tough to sedate or have anxiety, I would advise considering alternative dentists who prioritize patient well-being over financial interests. There are many other very accomplished dentists out there who treat the whole person and don’t just see dollar signs.

(Offices are beautiful and parking is easy)

Experiencia positiva: I came to Dr. Putterman with a concern about my son. When I made the appointment I was made aware that while he would look at my child and that there were no guarantees that he would be able to help. He would however do a "comprehensive evaluation". He looked in my childs mouth for roughly 90 seconds before giving us the name of a different pediatric dentist that he recommends at a cost of $245 for the comprehensive visit. I really wish he would have passed us along to another dentist earlier before having us come in if he felt he wasn't the best fit for the job.

Experiencia fantástica: When I cracked a tooth last winter that became badly infected, my dentist said I should consider a dental implant instead of a bridge. The pros: implants are like real teeth; they last much longer than a bridge (15 plus years), and they don’t damage healthy teeth around the implant. The cons: the implant process can take 6-12 months, and insurance coverage is iffy. My dentist recommended Dr. Israel Puterman, a highly regarded periodontist who performs same day implants, depending on the patient’s bone level. During my initial evaluation visit, I wanted my husband to tag along to take notes. Dr. Puterman put both of us at ease, and took the time to answer all of our questions without pressuring us to go the dental implant route. I also appreciated the fact that, during the initial visit, we could meet with an insurance specialist who provided advice and options. Throughout the nearly year-long process, Dr. Puterman’s team – from the front desk coordinators to the dental assistants – made me feel as if I was in a 5-star hotel with the best concierge service. During one early morning visit, when Dr. Puterman was running late because of a dental emergency, the staff asked my husband and I if they could get us breakfast or coffee because of the delay. (Yes, that really happened.) When I wanted to coordinate a bone scan appointment with a visit to my other dentist in the same who is located in the same building – so I could make one trip to Bethesda from Northern Virginia instead of two – Rachel, one of the Patient Care Assistants, said it was good idea, and she worked with me to coordinate both visits. Dr. Puterman has all the degrees, awards and certificates I look for in a specialist. But he is also a doctor who listens, and answers ALL my questions, no matter how stupid they may sound. A big pet peeve of mine is a doctor who just spouts medical jargon, but doesn’t really answer the question. Dr. Puterman is just the opposite. He clearly demonstrates empathy and sincerity, and he and his team are very responsive, flexible and patient if I have a question or concern. That level of service is rare, but it’s the type of service every patient deserves. And it’s irreplaceable.
