These visits are different from routine cleanings, even though they may feel simple from the patient perspective. Periodontal maintenance appointments are scheduled more frequently—typically every three to four months—and are specifically designed to monitor your gum health and prevent the recurrence of disease.
During these visits, we check pocket depths, assess bone levels, remove any new tartar buildup above and below the gumline, and polish your teeth. This consistent, specialized care is essential for stabilizing your condition, preventing further bone loss, and protecting the progress you've already made.
You might be diligent about brushing and flossing twice a day, but are you doing it correctly? Proper technique is crucial for effectively removing plaque without damaging your enamel or gums. Our hygienists and dental assistants love coaching patients during visits so you leave confident in your home routine.
We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle, short, circular motions—avoid aggressive sawing back and forth. Don't forget to brush your tongue! For flossing, use a generous piece and curve it into a "C" shape against the side of each tooth, sliding it up and down beneath the gumline. A dental emergency—whether it's a severe toothache, a knocked-out tooth, or a broken tooth or crown—is stressful and painful. Knowing what to do and who to call can make all the difference in saving your tooth. We reserve time in our schedule every day to help patients with urgent needs.
If a permanent tooth is knocked out, time is critical. Hold it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse it without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket. If that's not possible, store it in milk or saliva and head to our office immediately.

1 month ago Experiencia negativa: The nicest staff members were the two receptionists and the Hispanic X-Ray person. The female doctor did not even spend 5 minutes and just said that I have no cavities. She did not get closer to check my teeth at all. The hygienist was so sloppy and fast that I was done in less than 20 minutes, leaving my face around mouth wet... no words can't describe! Be aware that I am using Medicaid due to early retirement, however that should not be a reason to be treated in such way. For over 20 years I was treated with Chauvin & Chauvin with care and respect. However, when you are a professional it should not matter your background (I am Hispanic) neither the kind of insurance, etc that will pay for your salary. I surely will be looking for options for my dental care in the future.

4 months ago Experiencia positiva: Communications isn't their strong point. I've been waiting for months to get extractions. Nobody from their office communicated to me, nor my primary care physician that something was incorrect on the medical clearance form so, my doctor corrected the form and sent it back. Everytime I call to get an update it's always " we're waiting on the doctor" I've been trying to get this taken care of since November. We are now into mid April. I don't think it's going to happen at this point. What's really going to be aggravating is having to find another dentist , and pay for another Xray. Thanks for nothing.

They said I needed a deep cleaning and had 2 cavities to fill. Insurance deined deep cleaning they refused to give me a regular cleaning and wanted me to pay out of pocket for a deep cleaning that wasn't happening. Got my 2 cavities filled on 2 separate occasions the dentist was very kind and patient with me when I needed a break. Still refused regular cleaning so didn't come back found another dentist who did a cleaning.

After me he went to another patient and I thought he was a new person. Now I know insurance prejudices are a real thing, I feel thats what service I received. The assistant who took all my xrays was a wonderful person. Thats who the stars are for. The receptionist who had me sign papers and who was supposed to explain what I needed to be done was very vague on the explanation, almost like I was just taking to much time. Im looking for a more hospitable dental clinic.

She clearly violated Hippa laws when she BLURTED out in front of three other patients that I need quarterly cleanings because I have periodontal disease. This was very embarrassing to me, especially since I had never been told this and I go to the dentist on a regular basis. She needs some additional training. Had I responded inappropriately then it would have made it seem like I was a problem patient. She was very unprofessional, loud and inappropriate and clearly didn’t know what she was speaking about.

So I would not recommend them for dentures because they have to send them off.

7 months ago Experiencia positiva: I’ve been a patient here for about a year, the dental assistants suck. I’ve had several appointments rescheduled because whoever was supposed to clean my teeth would not be available the day my appointment had been made. They complain about working on my teeth because it had been a few years since my last cleaning. (Just got insurance this past year after a gap in insurance coverage). And they’ve made mistakes where they didn’t read the notes made, and did the wrong cleaning procedure. I only continue to go here because they’ve already done my x-rays and accept my insurance.

1 year ago Experiencia negativa: People at front desk that handle insurance approval needs to be fired. Worse group of people I’ve ever seen. Once I’m done with my dental work I’ll never go back to that place it’s a damn joke!!!!
1 year ago Experiencia fantástica: I started going to Friendly dental in June of this year after a bad experience at a previous dental office last year. Dr Peng identified the issue I had told the previous Dr about and actually fixed it. He showed a great level of care in providing a quick response to an issue I had brought up multiple times to the other office. I am thankful for him not only seeing with his own eyes what I was dealing with, but taking the time to listen and actually do something about it. I would recommend friendly dental in Gastonia to anyone who wants real quality care.

1 year ago Experiencia fantástica: Amy is very thorough when cleaning my teeth! I’ve had other dentists push me to try to do a bunch of expensive things just for cosmetic reasons but the team at Friendly has never pushed me for anything unnecessary, which I appreciate!

1 year ago Experiencia negativa: We have been going here for 5+ years. My wife went to her appointment, she was told she didn't have insurance. She called l ed the insurance carrier to verify she had insurance, which she did. While on the phone with insurance, the insurance carrier said he would talk to them to verify insurance, but they didn't want to talk to them. They also told my wife that they had already canceled her appointment. We will be looking for new a dentist. I don't know how they came up with the name "Friendly".
1 year ago Experiencia negativa: I would give 0 stars if that were an option! I had a cleaning appointment this morning and had confirmed the appointment via text. I also received another text message this morning reminding me of my appointment. I showed up, on time, and was asked about insurance. I replied that it was the same as previous visit. I was then told that they had called my insurance and was told I didn’t have it. I stepped outside, called my insurance company, and was told, "you're in good standing with us and are covered". I went back inside and told them the i surance company was on my phone to verify my insurance but the person at the office wouldn't even talk to the insurance company. She then just ignored that I was still standin there so I asked about my appointment and was told that she had canceled it! If this is friendly, I need to get a new definirion. I'll be finding a new dentist, even though we have used this one for 5+ years.
1 year ago Experiencia negativa: I scheduled my appointment a month in advance, gets there just to be told my appointment was canceled due to them entering my telephone number in incorrectly and there was no confirmation of the appointment. Front desk lady was extremely rude about their own clerical mistake!
1 year ago Experiencia fantástica: This place really never seems to amaze me. Once again Dr Allen is one of the best dentists in the area and is so compassionate about you whenever she is will you one on one discussion your options and treatment plans fit best for you. I have been to see her for years now and I'm so comfortable with her work and her experience hands even though I have always been afraid of the dentist. Elizabeth is also been great working with me for appointments and any questions I have about anything insurance related and such. Destiny has always been great to deal with getting me checked in and out within a very timely manner and has always greeted me with a smile and a I got you checked in. I'm just so thankful that I have this office and hope y'all guy's keep up the great work. New update 12-7-23 this dentist office never seems to stop impressing me. Called with a sore tooth that needed a filling done to it. The girls up front was more than helpful to get me a work in appointment within a few days. Called me and asked if I could come in with short notice and luckily I was able to. Went in and Dr Allen looked and said it needed a filling and set it up on the to do list. I was planning to set it up to do it within a few weeks and as soon as I got to the car they called and she said could go ahead and do it now while I was still there. Got it numbed up and within 15 minutes I was done and out the door. Dr Allen is truly one of the best dentists around and tells you what she is doing the whole time to keep you knowing what's about to happen. This makes it so comfortable for me as a patient and the front staff is so helpful with setting me up with appointments and communication with me. Again what a great dentist office for us in Gaston county. Keep up the great work everyone. So far this has been a great experience. I called this office not really trusting any dentists office to set up a appointment.The girls up front every time I called and came in did temp check and everything else they are supposed to do. Now the first appointment took a little over a hour to get done with bc of x-rays and everyone looking at my teeth. They sent me a dental plan and the cost from start to finish. 2nd appointment was with Dr Allen this morning and I was shaking like a tree. She came into the room where the dental assistant was at the whole time and started to explain step by step of what she was doing today. I just had 1 small filling that needed to be done and Dr Allen even went so far as to drill out one of my other filling beside what she was working on today just to make the tooth smooth and match in all 1 color. So far I am happy as I can be with this office and will continue to go get my dental work done here. I'll update as the progress of having my work done but I have a good feeling that it will go great with the guys/girls. Update 8-05-20 I had another appointment for a couple more filings and went to the office and like always (temperature check) then waited in my vehicle until I was called. I entered the office and was greeted by the front staff with the politest staff and went and washed my hands before I went to my room. Dr Allen came in and I over heard the dreaded word no one ever wants to hear (nerve block). I told her this was going to suck and she took I few extra minutes of her time to let the (gel numbing) stuff sit on my gums before giving me the block. Then she asked if I was ready and I felt nothing at all with the block shot. It's just so amazing that a Dr will take their time and listen to whatever your concerned about and reassure you. Then I was all finished up within 45 minutes and thanked her and the dental assistant and went up front to set up another appointment. Again another great experience with friendly dental and from beginning to end I was kept in the loop and another wonderful experience at a dentist office. Keep up the great work
1 year ago Experiencia negativa: Absolutely the worst place to go to.. I'm not sure how they have over 4 stars. I came here and was experiencing pain with a tooth requested to see a surgeon to have ot removed and they denied me referral to surgeon. Basically they didn't wanna put in the extra work. I mean it's not like people go around begging for surgeons to take their teeth out so apparently it needed to be removed. Dr. Pang is a joke
2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: This place is amazing!!! The staff are some of the friendliest people I have ever met. I signed in and within minutes was taken back on both visits. You will not regret it if you choose to find a new dentist, I’ve always dreaded going to the dentist but not here. They make you feel so welcome & like they genuinely care for their patients.

They are rude, Unprofessional & they tell you that they have your appointment scheduled but the day you wake up and call to confirm they say they don’t have you down anywhere highly wouldn’t recommend
2 years ago Experiencia negativa: Extremely disappointed in their work AND their total lack of friendliness, civility, and common courtesy. Every filling my husband has gotten from them has fallen out, tried for weeks to get an appointment to fix their shoddy work. He arrived, on time, and was thankful to be there. However, as soon as he was called back, that all changed. The tech was incredibly rude, condescending, and downright hateful to him. Refused to answer questions and threw my husband out for trying to ask why they werent going to fix their faulty fillings. WORST DENTAL OFFICE ever! NOT FRIENDLY at all, downright hateful and rude. We will be warning all our friends and colleagues to steer clear of "Friendly" Dental. The disrespectful treatment he received should never have happened, and the manager should absolutely fire that tech, as she will undoubtedly continue to bring her problems to work and be nothing more than a liability. I wonder how many other clients have already been lost due to her unprofessionalism and nasty attitude.

2 years ago Experiencia negativa: If I could give zero stars I would. I recently came in for an emergency filling for one tooth. During that appointment the Dr. Pain or however you write it didn’t want to fix my simple filling because it was close to his lunch time. I came back for another appointment and still was not able to get my simple filling done, I actually got nothing done during that appointment. Came back for the fourth time and they had me scheduled to for a tooth that was not bothering me and not my main concern at that time. I asked if he could move forward with doing both the extractions being they already set up for the procedure. The Dr proceeding to get an attitude but I’m asking him to do the work in my mouth as it would make sense, and to be time proficient. He continued to other his attitude which is then I let him know that I worked in the dental field. The only reason I came to this office was to get the simple work done that my insurance would cover and I would go else where to finish the more complicated work. The Dr then proceeded with his attitude in to which he started raising his voice throwing pens and I simply told him to get the office manager. He storms out and slams his office door. I talked with the office manager and she tried to come up some resolution. I simply told them I wanted to get the work done that made sense. Not what the Dr just wanted to do to mouth. I have a busy work schedule and my hours basically reflect theirs. I can not keep coming have my time wasted during appointments and I can not afford to come for several different appointments for treatment that could have been done in one day if scheduled properly. The professionalism of the Dr was poor and his attitude was one of a child. The assistants I encountered were very pleasant, but the doctor I had could never do treatment on me even if it were life or death. Sad I thought I was coming to a decent office but todays visit and another day of wasted time proved other wise.

2 years ago Experiencia negativa: FAR FROM FRIENDLY DENTAL AND STAY AWAY! My husband had nothing but poor customer service the whole time he was a patient for two visits only. Receptionist is not friendly so if this is FRIENDLY DENTAL, I would hate to see what MEAN DENTAL IS. pulled his three teeth and rushed him out without any pain medicine. Then receptionist for mad at me his wife, for calling to ask dental questions and asked me “does your husband have a learning disability because we explained this to him?” YES! She asked this question. He returned a month later soonest appt they gave him for follow up and because he was one minute later the 10 min late grace period, told him he has to reschedule for another month later and was so rude regarding this. He was late because of his work. This place is a poor shame for dentists in Gastonia and I’m not sure how they’re allowed to treat human beings like trash.

She knows me….. and can’t say enough about Dr. Allen, she’s a great dentist, nothing she can’t handle, and all the assistants very knowledgeable and helpful, so that’s why I like going to this dentist place!!
2 years ago Experiencia fantástica: Everyone makes mistakes and it’s hard to blame anyone because they’re human too but they’ll make it right if you talk to them about it. they fixed my teeth that were (in my opinion) gone and i appreciate it every day.
3 years ago Experiencia negativa: Don't go they're full of it . I called for an appointment they told me I'd already had my two exams for the year when I fact I hadn't . I have a cracked tooth I wanted looked at was told I would have to pay for another exam plus fixing my cracked tooth. Destiny was very rude and unprofessional!!!!

3 years ago Experiencia negativa: I arrived for my appointment, I filled out my paperwork, there was a lady that came in after me filled her paper work out, I turned mine in 15 minutes prior to her, turning her in, but yet she gets called back before me, I guess when you have Medicaid, they lowered their standards to you and make you wait longer, so if you have Medicaid, I highly recommend going to another place they are extremely rude

The front desk girls all greeted me with a smile, the doctor was very kind and gentle especially after I expressed my hesitation when it comes to dental work. She even offered me a minute to sit alone and calm my nerves. I would 100% recommend this office to anyone I know looking for dental care

3 years ago Experiencia fantástica: I would like to recommend friendly dental. This is my third time visiting after my initial appointment consultation and 6 month cleaning. They are friendly, timely and knowledgeable. I saw Dr. Peng for my cavities fill ins, he was very knowledgeable and informative. His assistant & Dr. Peng made sure I was comfortable and pain free & walked me through step by step of my procedure. I also like his conservative approach and made me feel comfortable he was only doing what was needed.

I needed a tooth taken out and was so scared .. the Doctor was great and I didn’t even feel the shot ! Everything went so smoothly !! I would highly recommend this office for all of your dental treatments
4 years ago Experiencia negativa: Had like literally 10 fillings...then needs root canals for 1000 each... I mean really should've known from the beginning...bunch of con artists getter my every penny they can..not to mention it's never the same dentist!!!!
