Lawhead Family Dentistry - Muscatine

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this dental office for at least 50 years. I've always gotten good service in the past. I feel I've gotten even better service recently. Dr Carlin's son Chris has joined the practice. Since Dr Carlin is not in the office as much as he used to be, I switched to Dr Chris. He has done some amazing things for me, including an exam and modification of a partial plate at no charge to me. Amazing! I just had two more teeth pulled and had to have the partial plate modified again. He did a great job with that, including adjustments to the plate after receiving it back from the lab. He has it fitting very comfortably. I highly recommend them! ADDITIONAL INFO: I had three more teeth pulled, show the partial plate had to be modified again. Dr Chris did that, rather than ordering a new partial. Again, he did a great job for a fair price. I still highly recommend them!! Friendly, knowledgeable, and competent staff!

Negative experience: STAY AWAY!!! Bad business practice, it's not worth it. Ok, so I had to reschedule an appointment and intended to make my PAST DUE balance of $24 (Yes $24) at my next appointment, which I made clear it will be taken care of at that point. Mind you, they WOULDN'T take a payment during one of my visits cause they weren't "sure" how much it would be.. fine. I've been super busy at work so rescheduling got difficult, I just needed a little more time. Next thing I know, they call me during work hours and left a vm saying "if you don't make a payment TODAY BEFORE 4:30pm , we're sending you to collections". What kind of notice is that? I was still at work at 4:30. Needless to say, they sent my $24 past due balance to collections. Balance due wouldn't have been due if they've taken my payment when I wanted to pay in the first place. STAY AWAY... I literally just spent of bunch of money there (thousands) and the $24 I missed with one one call notice with literally a few hours notice to pay it... they sent me to collections. STAY AWAY... not worth it.

Negative experience: We are new to the area and my 6yo has a toothache. Several places I had called weren't taking new patients, but the rudeness of the receptionist at Lawhead took the frustration of the situation to a new level. She told me we could wait 3 months for their next available appointment - who would let their child suffer that long? So I very politely asked whether they had emergency appointment times, which every dentist I've been to has had set aside for acute cases. She said "no, ma'am" in such a nasty tone, and when I asked if she knew anywhere local that did provide for emergency cases, her response was, "I don't know, go to Iowa City." So unwelcoming to new community members. So uncaring toward a suffering child. I called Gentle Dental and they told me where to go if my child's discomfort became unbearable before I could get an appointment. That's just basic human dignity and respect, which was totally missing from my conversation at with the receptionist at Lawhead.

Fantastic experience: What a wonderful office! Dr. Chris is so great at explaining every part of his procedures. I love Becca as his assistant. Allie has cleaned my teeth and is gentle and very thorough! Super friendly too. I will recommend this office to my family & friends!

Negative experience: This is an update, I went to this office with concerns as listed below and come to find out that my whole upper quadrant on the right has been infected since I first saw Dr. Lawhead well since he sent me on my way with this infection it grew so large that it penetrated in to my sinus and punctured a hole in my sinus I'm in such pain and have to have surgery on my sinus all because he failed to give me an antibiotic I even asked him "do I need to take an antibiotic? " and he said no! when he pulled that tooth the infection was out! So now I have lost five teeth because of his poor diagnosis! I'm angry! every tooth he worked on has to be pulled. I want to sue him I have seen specialists and they all tell me that I have a case too sue! / (Now this is the first post)At first I thought the younger Lawhead was fine, I try to take good care of my teeth I have never had a tooth pulled, Dr lawhead said I needed a root canal so he proceeded with the root canal and he did it wrong he removed the pulp but failed to get all my roots, so he sent me to a specialist, and the specialist told me that Dr Lawhead poked a hole in the next root of the tooth next to the one he tried to perform the root canal and it was infected, so he pulled that tooth knowing that the specialist told him I have a hole that he made in my other root, he pulled it and sent me on my way, I'm not a dentist so I went on my way. Do not have him do your root canal. I have to have 3 teeth removed on the same side and he knew it was infected but sent me on my way with an infection, now it's to late. To me that is someone who has no ethics or honor, I am very disappointed and hurt in Dr lawhead Junior.

I remember when I chipped a tooth, I went to Dr. Lawhead and I told him it didnt hurt and he could just pull it. But he fitted another piece in and said there you go I wouldn't want you smiling and there being a dark spot there. He also teaches Dental students at the University of Iowa school of Denistry.i would recomend Law Head denistry to any body that wamts apain free extraction, teeth cleaning he is great i have been going to lawhead Denistry for years .n

They took me in and fixed my issue when I was not able to get what I wanted done where I live. Lawhead was able to book me an appointment and get me in pretty quickly. I have fell in love with their care ever since now my whole family gets the best care from them. We choose to drive 1 hr and 15 min out of our way to be seen so we can get the best care possible. Highly recommended even if it’s a drive. Best work and they are like family all so very sweet and loving staff. My children also love their care they provide.
