Negative experience: Billing nightmare, constantly being charged for services that our insurance covers 100%, one of the receptionists is awful & mean, the dental assistants are wonderful (the only positive to this place), but now that we've had work done, my husband and I are both in constant pain and our bites are completely off. After several visits and hundreds of dollars, we will never go back.

Fantastic experience: I went in for filling of small cavity. Dr. Thompson has me in and out in 15 minutes. He is the Best!

Negative experience: I was not satisfied with the final result of my treatment, and even less with the overall experience with the dentist. My procedure had to be split over two separate days to minimize the effects of anesthesia. After noticing a few concerns during the first visit, I decided to reserve judgment until the second appointment. Unfortunately, those concerns were reinforced. The dentist who performed my procedure, Lawrance Evola, entered the room without any acknowledgment, no greeting, no basic courtesy, and once done exited the same way, which created an impersonal and uncomfortable atmosphere, as if he was doing me a favor. When I mentioned that the tool being used to hold my tongue was causing discomfort to my gum, he seemed surprised and responded by saying the tool was blunt and that my tongue was strong. The technician, Kayla, stepped in with a lighthearted comment to ease the tension. She is very kind, though it now seems she may often find herself compensating for the dentist’s lack of tact and customer service. There were no apologies or reassurance offered at any point, and I was left feeling as though my discomfort was an inconvenience. Additionally, the filling from the first day became extremely sensitive and required adjustment during the second visit, and the second filling now feels uneven. Given the combination of poor communication, lack of bedside manner, and unsatisfactory results, I do not plan to return and cannot recommend this practice.

Negative experience: I loved Dr Coughlin and the hygienists/techs/endodontist ..always a pleasant experience! But the business practices are horrible enough to make me suspect fraud. It’s a shame I won’t go back because of this, NOT the dental staff! They do great work!

Negative experience: Do not recommend!! I have been a patient for over 5 years but have already changed to a new dentist. I had a root canal and it took over 21 days for the claim to be filed. I was calling multiple times a week requesting the claim to be filed but was always told that it had been but the insurance never received it. Such as previous review - if you are in network with the dentist that does not mean you are in network for a root canal on Wednesday with Drs. Lizka/McKenzie (owners). I made that mistake and it cost an extra $400. They also like to keep the direct billing under wraps until you walk in for the appointment. The customer service is horrible and it's obvious that the owners have no regards for the patient . It is the patient's responsibility to make sure that the office files the claim. Also, read your EOB. If you have over paid, then you will need to call them at least a month "begging" for your money. It's too big a hassle to deal with them - too many bad reviews. I would recommend Solomon Dentistry.

Negative experience: Run! Run! Run! There are too many dentists and oral surgeons (root canals) in Summerville to even consider this establishment. The owners of Teeth Dentistry (Midland Pkwy) and Charleston Endo Perio (Mt. Pleasant) are the same. If you need any work beyond your basic dental services you will be referred to Charleston Endo which is available on Wednesdays at the Summerville Teeth Dentist office. What they won't mention - if you use Charleston Endo on Wednesdays - until you walk in with extreme pain and using time off from your job is that they direct bill your insurance company which means you have to pay the full price up front. But to make matters worse is that they are always overbooked after you are there for the appt. I went for a root canal and they were trying to get me to reschedule it for the next day in Mt. Pleasant after I just paid a couple thousand dollars. Luckily, they were able to do mine that day but I heard others were having to go to Mt. Pleasant the next day. What??? Don't assume if your insurance is in network with Teeth Dentistry that it will be for Charleston Endo. That won't be mentioned either. Also, I had two credits on my account from Teeth Dentist office. It took me 8 weeks to get my money back. I was lied to so many times about how they were going to repay me but never did because they have to wait for the owners approval. I have been a patient there for over 6 years but my family and I just had our last visit. Do not recommend and please read all the lackluster reviews before making an appointment

Negative experience: Terrible customer service. I was told by the office that I had to pay up front for my appointment, they would file a claim with my insurance company, and my insurance would reimburse me directly. On the contrary, my insurance company reimbursed THEM. They claimed they would reimburse me a month ago and it still hasn't happened. So, they have been paid by me AND my insurance company and are refusing to reimburse me. They recently even tried to file another claim on a service they have already been reimbursed for. Super shady and are no longer communicating with me.

Negative experience: Was not a great experience, doc exam lasted maybe 5 minutes, cleaning was okay. I filled out their lengthy paperwork in which they didn’t read or bring up to me at all. I asked for my records to be emailed and read the chart note attached, they stated “no” to questions I stated yes to and vice versa. Not very professional, woman at the front desk seemed agitated when I was giving her my dental insurance information. On top of that they wanted to do a filling on two of my teeth, I went to get a second opinion and one of them wasn’t even a cavity and the other could have been easily remineralized!! Later on they hit me with a bill for more than $500 and couldn’t even explain to me the break down of it. I would not recommend this practice to friends or family, always do your research!!

Negative experience: Horrible customer service! I was told I had to pay up front for my service and that my insurance would reimburse me directly. However, my insurance ended up reimbursing them instead of me...they got paid twice for the same service! Now, over 3 months later I still keep getting the run around about when I will get my refund. One day they take my card information and tell me they will refund it the next day. One day they tell me the owners are out of town and will refund my money as soon as they return in 2 weeks. Still nothing. I call today and they tell me that they have to get approval and they have no time frame for that, even though I provided them with the EOB that shows where they were paid directly. Please be hesitant when they ask you for your money up front and don't make the same mistake I did!!

Negative experience: For the past year I was considering not going back to this place, but regretfully I did use their services again and it has cost me $3000 out of pocket, even though I have dental insurance. I was told by the office manager (Kara) that the implant procedure was covered by my insurance, but I had to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed from the insurance company on at least 2 separate occasions. I scheduled the procedure for a few months later to take advantage of the insurance that I was switching to, and apparently Kara did not really do an important part of her job to actually verify that the procedure was covered, at least that is how I feel. Twice I was told by Kara that the insurance would reimburse me. It has been a few months now and I have not gotten either of our reimbursements. So I called the insurance company and I was informed that the dentist that performed my procedure was not in the system, so they will not cover it. It would seem to me that since Kara knows all of the billing codes and deals with insurance on a daily basis, she should have checked this as I don’t have a clue about what codes are used or if the dentist is recognized by a particular insurance company. I feel that I was lied to and duped by Kara. I know that they don’t care because they got their money, but rest assured they will never get another dime from me. I would call and express my frustration about this, but during the “so called” reimbursement time, several calls were made, messages left, told by her that she was going to find out what was going on, and still I had to find out from the insurance company myself what the problem was. Maybe she knew this and was afraid to tell me that she had made a mistake. Nevertheless, stay away from this place as it is an absolute billing nightmare and in my opinion absolutely incompetent about the office side of the business.

Negative experience: This place is a billing nightmare. We had to switch dentists as they changed their billing name without notifying insurance and our insurance viewed them as out of network. We last received service in April 2024. My wife paid a check in August 2024 that cleared our personal banking account 3 days later. In March 2025, they claimed the check that had cleared my account had been listed as insufficient funds in November 2024, and they wanted us to resubmit the payment. We honestly thought it was someone trying to defraud us under the guise of a hacked email. I mean how would a check bounce three months after the check had cleared? And why would a legitimate business wait an additional four months to ask about a check that allegedly bounced? However, to our astonishment, this is the actual dentist office. I am now in the process of proving that they cleared the check seven months ago and that I was never “reimbursed” like their bank thinks I was. I have never had this many issues with any medical provider before this. Please beware if you’re considering using them and keep track of all transactions as you never know what they may try to collect.

Negative experience: BEWARE! I called to have a chip fixed without insurance. They presented a program to me that they claimed would cover my xrays and all these other things. I told them I just wanted the tooth fixed, because I had periodontal disease I can not afford the expensive cleaning. They stated that their $659 per year program included that service. I was astonished by such a good price and made them verify. I agreed to this over the phone and scheduled an appointment for the next day. I went in on the next day and before I paid, I made it clear again, that I had periodontal disease and I knew they would want the deep cleaning before anything else, but I wanted the chip done before that. They said they would try to make that happen. During the xrays, they stated that the cleanings I needed would not be covered. So I stopped everything right there, because the only reason I agreed to anything more than a chipped tooth repair was because they said the deep cleaning was covered. Then they backpedaled it all and presented a price of over $3000 for the cleaning, on top of the money I already paid. I insisted I could not pay all that, and I expressed how I explained to that over the phone before I came and at the front desk before I paid. I asked for a full refund and then to just have them fix the tooth and charge me for that. They refused any refund unless I paid the $3100 for the deep cleaning, then called their boss and the boss told them they couldn't refund anything without fully charging me for all the stuff they did, which I was tricked into in the first place. In the end, my tooth is chipped, they did nothing, and they still have my $659. I have called numerous times for the manager, and I have reported them and filed a claim with my bank. I will not stop until I get my refund.

Negative experience: I regret choosing TeethDS in South Carolina, as my experience with Dr. Erin McKenzie, Dr. Luke Liszka, and office managers Kara and Kayla has been nothing short of disappointing and frustrating. We specifically selected this practice due to their offering of full sedation, which was clearly communicated during our initial consultation on November 1, 2023. We even paid for the sedation upfront before scheduling the surgery. On December 12, 2023, we paid a deposit of $259.98 for sedation services for periodontal surgery scheduled months later, for April 24, 2024. However, the surgery never happened. The office cancelled the appointment the day before, via text message, without any prior authorization from us. Dr. Liszka refused to refund the payment for the services that were never rendered, despite the fact that the cancellation was due to the office’s mismanagement of scheduling. We waited four months for the surgery, only to have the office reach out the day before to ask if we could come in for a 3D x-ray. At that point, we had already been prepared and were expecting the surgery to go forward as planned. The office had not reached out before this time for any pre-surgery details, and when we called to confirm the preparations, they apologized, stating that they couldn't perform the sedation at the scheduled location. The office admin promised to call us back, but instead, we received a text an hour later, cancelling the appointment. There was no follow-up, no attempt to reschedule, and no responsibility taken for the mistake. Dr. Liszka's refusal to acknowledge the office's error and his lack of professionalism are the primary reasons we cannot trust this practice. Additionally, despite his claim that there is a three-day cancellation policy for refunds (which did not apply in our case), he refused to refund our money. Further, their office staff contacted our insurance, incorrectly stating that the x-rays were covered, when in fact they were not. Despite me informing them that the x-rays would not be covered since we had already received them, the office insisted otherwise, leading to an additional cost on our end. I did not pursue reimbursement, but in hindsight, I should have. To make matters worse, TeethDS is also refusing to release my dental records. We strongly advise seeking care elsewhere, where professionalism, integrity, and proper communication are prioritized. In the end, I lost $259.98 on December 12, 2023, and I would not recommend this practice to anyone.

Positive experience: I wanted to share my recent experience as a new patient at your Summerville office. I recently came in for a cleaning and was informed that I needed fillings for four teeth. As a new patient, I was uncertain about the pricing, but the charges still seemed quite high, even with my insurance coverage. After about a month and a half, one of the filled teeth became irritated and sensitive to both cold and hot liquids, causing discomfort for the past four days. I contacted the office, and was told that I would need to come in for a consultation to assess the issue. However, the staff mentioned that there was some uncertainty as to whether the filling was placed in the same tooth due to software issues. I was also informed that the consultation would not be covered by my insurance, which I found surprising since I am no longer a new patient. Additionally, I was advised that I would need to pay 50% of the cost for the repair of the irritated tooth, which was also partially covered by my insurance. During the consultation, I was presented with the option of getting a crown for the tooth. While I appreciated the recommendation, the cost of $2,469 (or $1,234.70 after insurance) felt quite high, even with my insurance coverage and they were the one working of the tooth, especially considering the additional charges involved. That said, I want to emphasize that the staff has been very kind and accommodating throughout my visits. I just wanted to share my concerns regarding the charges and the clarity of the billing process, and I would greatly appreciate any guidance or clarification on these matters.

Negative experience: I love Jennifer, have had her for years. Shocking is the cost of cleaning, as with Dr. Powers I paid for child's cleaning $59.00 then, now 250.00. So sad i never heard from doctor Powers & I was his first patient and my husband was in the service with him. No letter, nothing! **I had never been told about the savings till today.** Jennifer gets 5 stars, she is the best, and I hate to say it, but I am going to change dentist. Last time I was there, I came right home and made out a check for the bank to send. 9/17/24, I show it was paid 9/24/24. I kept getting this late notice and I thought it was fraud, so I called. They had no record of me paying and I HAD TO SEND THEM VERIFICATION. IMAGINE THAT, I DIDIN'T HEAR A THING BACK FROM THEM!!!!

Fantastic experience: My daughter loved Marie! She is 16 and has become so much more aware of her dental hygiene because Marie gave her so much dental hygiene education during her cleaning. She was super excited to start her new routine! Thanks Marie!!

Negative experience: The minute I walked in the door I knew this is going to be trouble. A gentleman was extremely angry about being charged for his wife's clean. This should be a covered. Well it was my turn, I was going to get some smal cavities filled, which is covered under my dental plan. I was told if you don't get the deep cleaning we will not work on you and handed an estimate that was over $400 dollars. This was after what my insurance would pay. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE OR YOUR WALLET WILL CATCH ON FIRE. PRICE GOUGING.

Positive experience: I had gotten my teeth cleaned today and the lady that did the service was very nice. I felt comfortable with the service. I would recommend for anyone to go and give them a try out. Ive been to other places and they aren't nothing like this place.

Negative experience: I have been going to this dentist for sometime before it change to Summerville| Teeth Dentist. First , I don’t mind paying upfront if I am given the portion due ,let’s get that straight. In addition, I know all charges that are given is an estimate. With this being said, I had an appointment today and prior to this appointment I was given an estimate and today the estimated charge given CHANGED!!!! No one called and said to me Mrs. - we see where you was quoted this amount on your last visit, but since your insurance did not cover all of that visit the amount changed. Well, no one called and I went to the appointment today expecting to pay the amount originally quoted and the representative stated I could not have my service without full payment I did not say I could not pay all I offered to pay the amount which I was originally quoted and she declined and said I would have to come back when I had all the money. This post is to advise anyone who uses this doctors office to be prepared to pay upfront cost upfront ,All not half ,all . In addition, for a doctors office who collects upfront please advise your patients before they come in the amount due and don’t change it and waste their time. I have one scheduled visit with this office then I will be leaving to go somewhere else. Notify your patients if you want all your money upfront so they will be prepared to pay!!!

Negative experience: Worst dentist I have ever been too. Got hired at a new job and had to change dentists to be in coverage. Had been getting regular cleanings and maintenance every 6 months my whole life. First visit was told I had 6 cavities and need fillings. Required a down deposit to book the filling. Got a very high estimate but was told after insurance was billed it would be lower. Following my fillings I was made to pay the same high cost and my insurance has no record of either appointment being billed. During my appointment the dentist and assistant discussed other patients, personal details of their own lives and disregarded my comfort and presence. They claimed my teeth were at a difficult angle and an “odd” shape and that is why they cut my pallet and made my gums bleed trying to do the filling. I had to go on a work trip the following week but had severe pain and problems. Called on the following Monday when I got back in the states and left a message since they did not answer the phone. They did not call back. Called again on Tuesday to schedule and was told that only had one appointment that week to fix my teeth on a day I could not get off work. The pain is so bad I only chew on the other side of my mouth. I am having to find another dentist to fix their mistakes. Overall most unprofessional medical scenario I have ever been in and would never recommend them to anyone. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Negative experience: Everything was okay, prices are kind of high, and then they tack on a 3.99% fee if you use a check, credit card or debit card, I was told that they will take cash if you have the exact change. A $519.02 bill turned into $539.02.
