Sharon at the front desk did a good job explaining patient responsibility for work i need done. The dentist was okay but for some reason he left to go home and left me waiting in the chair. This is the only reason for 4 stars . He did return but this little mix up made for a very long first visit. I do plan to return

Negative experience: Unprofessional staff, downright fraudulent billing (not uncommon for dentists sadly), do not answer or return calls Sent us bills for cleaning saying they were not covered by insurance after we had been there for 2 separate cleanings before that were fully covered by the same insurance Will be reporting this practice to the state board of dentistry, seems like they really need a visit, possibly small claims court to follow

Negative experience: I would not recommend this office to anybody. Aside from the fact that they have turnover with their doctors, they have poorly trained staff as well. First, I received a text message recently about some treatment that I didn’t have done. Funny thing is no treatment was discussed with me at my actual appointment months ago. These offices push expensive treatment plans because they are only worried about lining their pockets. Corporate dental offices are not the way to go. They will also bill you for services with no explanation at all, two bills received for two different dates that I was not seen in their office. I left a message and I still haven’t heard back. I have other friends that were billed incorrectly as well and they haven’t heard anything either. Why can’t you answer the phone Sarah? Is it maybe that you don’t have the experience to do the job you were hired for and you can’t answer the questions? I worked in oral surgery billing for six years, I promise you you can’t pull a fast one on me. Should the office decide that they want to handle this the correct way, I would be happy to edit this review.

Not only is Dr Safadi expertly thorough, but Sheila is hands down the BEST dental hygienist - civilian or military- that I’ve encountered before, during, or after my 35-year military career! At this office, they listen to you, explain things, and always make sure that everything is clear and your questions are answered!

Everyone was so kind and helpful from the dentist to every single office staff member. They were so patient taking the time to answer all the questions I had regarding my treatment plan and my questions pertaining to my insurance coverage. Hayes Family Dentistry fit me in quickly and treated me so well, like I was already an established patient. So happy to have found an office I liked and didn't have to leave the Middle peninsula!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic. I was unaware that with having a knee replaced a year ago that my surgeon had to give the dentist permission to get some of the dental procedures done. Negative experience: UPDATE TO EARLIER REVIEW: I left my first five star review way too soon. I should have waited. After looking at other reviews they seem to be like my first review in that they were given after the first visit or two and then they also had problems.It makes me wonder if they aren’t just making a great first impression just to get you in the door and then they no longer care. The first dentist I saw was great, personable, and since it was the end of the day, and he was new to the area, he even sat down to talk to me about the city he moved to since my husband is a LEO there. Unfortunately, he left. My experience with this practice has been a nightmare experience ever since. Since my first appointment, it has been a revolving door of different dentist. I believe they may be on their third or fourth dentist in a year. The office has canceled my appointments more times than they have kept them. I believe just now was the fourth cancellation and this time they called 27 minutes before my appointment - as I was LITERALLY on my porch walking out the door to drive there for my 3pm appointment. I had a other pressing issues I needed to, and could have done today had I known this would happen. Clearly, they have no respect for the time or inconvenience of their patients. They charge a broken appointment fee if you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment. It’s a shame they don’t pay customers for canceling appointments at the last minute because if that was the case, I could’ve made a lot of money off of them. Since no explanation was offered, I asked why they were canceling it at the last minute since and was told it “might” be because another procedure was taking longer than expected. Other past explanations have been “we got a new dentist and they’re having a staff meeting”, “the hygienist will not be there that day”, “we won’t have any afternoon appointments for months because we have a temporary dentist who doesn’t like to work afternoons”. I could be wrong, but my gut feeling tells me they just don’t like late afternoon appointments. Sorry, don’t make them if you don’t want to keep them, but afternoons happen to be the only time I can make my appointments because of my husband‘s work schedule. The dentist I saw on my last appointment (which was a reschedule months after they cancelled another appointment), was hard to understand and not very personable at all - but I thought that’s okay, we all have bad days. However, after checking my teeth and looking at my x-rays, he told me I had two cavities, but he failed to tell me where or what which teeth they were. He just announced it and walked out the door with nothing further to say. I was not impressed. I think the revolving door of dentist at this practice is because they are being brought in from another country and this office is just a temporary position for them. None of them are local to the area (or country), and they don’t stay which is probably the reason they don’t care about patient interaction or experience. You will never build a rapport or relationship with them because they won’t be there long enough. The girls in the office are locals and great. They are always a pleasure to talk to and, no doubt, don’t have any control over how the practice is run. I found this practice because I have Delta Dental insurance and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find providers. Initially, I was so happy to find a practice in Gloucester that accepted Delta. Now, I don’t care if I have to drive out of the area to find another provider because this place is the worst. I will be looking for a better and more professional provider. ******************************************* PREVIOUS REVIEW I’m so happy to have found this place. Today was my third visit. The entire staff has been so friendly and helpful. I feel very relaxed there, it’s like visiting my friends. I can honestly say I have never felt as comfortable and welcome at a dental office as I do there. Today I had a cleaning by, Shiela, the hygienist. She was very personable, knowledgeable and informative.

Dr Kakkar is an excellent dentist and his team is courteous, friendly and skillful. Dr Kakkar is very knowledgeable, highly skilled and I can recommend him to anyone who is looking for a considerate and professional dentist.

Fantastic experience: Beyond amazing and accommodating office. Everyone is very friendly and always remembers personal tid bits shared from the last appointment. They really care and the new management/staffing/travel doctor has been absolutely amazing. They provide care and attention to detail and do not rush visits.

Positive experience: Although everyone was very nice and professional at my first visit, I left feeling a little upset. When I scheduled my appointment, I said my husband needed appointments for cleaning. However, we both saw Dr. Will, not the hygienist. This was upsetting because it had been about 7 months since my last cleaning and that’s what I expected. If seeing the dentist first for an exam is the office policy, I don’t understand why that wasn’t explained to me as a new patient when I made the appointments. I also felt pressured into starting a “treatment plan” when I had not received the service I thought I was there for.

Personnel that are working are very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The temporary dentist was very thorough and nice. Hopefully they will hire a permanent dentist soon.

Fantastic experience: I love my current hygienist Shiela and my previous hygienist Diana. I was disappointed to hear that Dr. Kakkar is leaving. He is gentle and calming. The office staff is great. I hope they can find a replacement doctor that will stay awhile and keep this team together. It does not bode well when the staff is frequently changed out.

Fantastic experience: The dentist has a great bedside manner, seemed legitimately concerned with my well being. His assistant that I had the honor to meet, was personable, encouraging, compassionate, and kind. It was great to see that good people still exist!

Negative experience: X-ray process was intense which produced results that I questioned. Mr KaKkar seemed nice until he tried to prove I was having an issue by tapping on my tooth rather intensely. It seemed this business was motivated by finding the most wrong and major costs associated. Also I have never had a dentist request an extraction for a tooth that doesn’t hurt but on X-ray was problematic. Most dentist want to save your tooth at all cost. Once extracted he mentioned a cosmetic tooth install which is very expensive. I was left questioning his honesty and will not return as a result. I will return to my old dentist and pay more because of an insurance change.

Negative experience: I used to go to this office. Both my husband and I were clients for many years going back to when Dr Diann Gordon was the dentist. Unfortunately we were informed on my husband’s last visit that they no longer took our dental insurance. They stated we should have been notified via mail?? Had a very difficult time finding another dentist and now have to go to Yorktown. I feel like this office has changed to where the primary focus is selling whitening treatments and having more private pay clients.

Fantastic experience: I had one of the best dental experiences ever.....my procedures consisted of a crown prep on an upper molar and an extraction, bone graft and implant on the opposing molar. Both procedures lasted 2 1/2 hours. Dr. Kakkar was precise, efficient and expert. He was also compassionate. He explained each detail of the process which helped me to anticipate the steps. He had a technique with the mouth mirror that distracted me from my anesthetic injections. I did not feel a thing from beginning to end. He and his assistant used a mouth block so my jaw could rest and I could relax.....I almost fell asleep. Dr. Kakkar took his time with my molar extraction to preserve bone for a good result. His placement of my implant was spot-on as observed in an xray. His assistant, Heather was professional, organized and confident. She and Dr. Kakkar flowed smoothly during my treatment. Heather was very caring and texted me to make sure I was doing OK while I was recovering over the weekend. Dr. Kakkar also checked to ensure I was fine. Jessica, the treatment plan coordinator and Ally, the clerical lead were pleasantly amusing. They would come by the treatment room and observe with professional humor and take photos of my process per my request. I was also given explicit post op instructions and helpful suggestions. I also want to give a shout-out for my husband, Heath whom drove me to my appointment and kept checking to ensure I adhered to my post op care instructions. I was absolutely thrilled with my dental experience at Hayes Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. Thank you so much everyone!!!

Negative experience: This office needs to become familiar with a DD2813 form and the requirements if they plan to conduct business in a highly military populated community. I have attempted to have this form filled out at two visits. Even after trying to explain that the form could be completed, but a class level would need to be annoted, the Dr. still would not complete the form. I have one POSSIBLE filling, which would place me as a class 2, and still deployIable. Yet, I've had to waste two personal leave days, due to this establishments inability to educate themselves on these requirements.

Negative experience: All new staff and new dentist. Not a good thing. Never had a dentist tell me I cant make decisions He would make the decision for me. Boy do I miss the Dr. Alhadad wish he was still here.

Fantastic experience: Just want to express my gratitude for this practice-I have a tremendous (and admittedly irrational) fear of all things dentistry, but the entire staff were compassionate and wonderful from start to finish. I had an insanely painful, exposed root broken tooth and they were able to get me in quite quickly as a new client and when the extraction time came, it was clear that my Dr. was very adept at these and the experience, although inherently not the most fun, was pain free. Thanks so much to you all! 10/10 recommend.

As a established patient(s) with this denistry office, I as well as my husband we are pleased with the services provided from this dental practice. We travel on occassions and can easily obtain access to dental care when required. This facility has been very caring and all staff have gone above and beyond to keep us informed of the practice scheduling, emergencies and unexpected closings due to weather or other staffing emergencies. The previous dentist Dr Muhanned Alhadad has provided quick and precise care for our family. Last year our annual cleanings were bumped up prior to Dr Alhadad departure. Its been not quite a year since our last visit. I understand Dr Muhanned Alhadad had to leave Gloucester VA unexpectly to relocate to permanently to be near his family. Life emergencies happen. We were very satisfied with his care for us. As I mentioned previously, we travel occassionally and another established dentist we use out of state has been very pleased with the professional quality of work preformed from this dental practice. This office has gone above and beyond services to keep us informed as they prepared for transitioning a replacement. Today was our (husband and myself) first appointment to meet and greet with the new dentist Dr Mayank Kakkar and review of our present dental plan of care left from Dr Alhadad. Other options were also presented with pros and cons of each type treatments. Very clear precise pricing and services were explained in a easy to understand manner, including medical terminiology. A very caring chairside manner by Dr Kakkar. Very reasonable detailed services presented, no up selling of services.Tweeking the plan of care for me. I am a complicated dental patient with various health conditions, also have Alpha Gal (Red Meat) Allergy. Pleased with his focus on my patient safety. Reasonable plan of care presented for saving our teeth, obtaining improved dental health and restoring our smiles again! No charge for our visit today. Our future care appointments were accepted and booked. Highly recommend this dental practice. All the staff welcoming and caring. I have stayed because of the great care I receive from the staff at HFD. Amy was my hygienist today. She is new to HFD but not to dental work. She is so awesome!! Negative experience: Had great service at both of my appointments. Update. They made me wait 5 months for the dental hygienist. Then canceled both my appointments and now I have to wait until October. 11 months for teeth cleaning. The hygienist took the week off and everyone who had an appointment that week was pushed off another 6 months. Ridiculous scheduling practices. Once you get in the door they’re great. I just can’t understand having to wait for something “urgently needed” according to the dentist and through no fault of my own having to wait another 6 months.

Negative experience: Had to update our review. This office went from great to horrible. Due to a school conflict we had to reschedule an October 2022 appt. Soonest they could get us in wa April 24, 2023 with an understanding that the would call if any cancelations occurred and they could fit her in earlier. Got that call that they could switch her to late March. Time came for that appointment and no confirmation communication from the office. I called and they didn't update the calendar. Ok, no problem we still had the April appointment. Nope. Got a message today that they had a "conflict" and had to reschedule her for AUGUST. Absolutely no concern that it would be nearly a year since her last appointment. Done with that practice. Took a little time (1 hour). We now have a new dentist.

Fantastic experience: I love you guys. I use to have bad anxiety attacks. But not here. I can't believe it. All the staff is very nice. They remember what you talk about. They ask how your family is. It's like a bunch of friends there. Hey the the big man, (the dentist) is very nice to look at. I would recommend this place to everyone I know. Friends and family.
