Fantastic experience: Dentist Rick Harrison and office staff are excellent. My only problem was with my dental insurance as they didn’t cover the toral cost of my crown. I had a top front tooth split/ break so only half was still there. This was Saturday morning. Monday morning I called the office and was given an appointment for the next day- Tuesday at 9 am. You can not ask for any better service! Office is clean and well organized.

Fantastic experience: I’m a new patient and had my first cleaning and X-rays. My mouth has difficulties because of large tori on the roof of my mouth and my jaw no longer opens more than 2 inches - but the hygienist did an awesome job working around that. The dentist took the time to explain my options for my jaw (which really weren’t much) but I really liked that he took the time to explain everything to me. I’m very pleased with the friendliness and knowledge at this office.

Positive experience: This practice is very convenient and clean. I’m 65 and have 3 or 4 caps on my molars. All of the caps are working perfectly and match my other teeth correctly. The staff is always professional. Dealing with the financial side is where everyone seems to have problems. This is mostly due to everyone’s ignorance on what their coverage will be covering and did the patient bring in the proper documentation. Sometimes it can cost $900, other times insurance covers everything.

Negative experience: Let’s just say that I should have asked for an estimate before scheduling my first appointment. My dental insurance offers two free cleanings and free annual X-rays but this office doesn’t tell you if they find a dental problem they code it so the insurance only pays 20% and they make more money. They only did a superficial cleaning, exam and X-rays on the first visit but ended up coding it as a periodontal exam and cleaning so they could make more money. They did X-rays and cleaned my teeth. The doctor never looked in my mouth and I ended up paying a $100 deductible and 80% of an exam I didn’t get. I called my insurance company and they said they pay according to how the procedures are coded. I get my teeth cleaned every six months. I didn’t ask for a periodontal exam or full mouth xrays. I scheduled a cleaning and annual X-rays. I was not asked to bring full mouth X-rays with me. I will not be staying with this dentist office. They are out of touch with this customers and get defensive when questioned about fees. They did not provide me with an itemized receipt and would not provide me with an estimate for potential future visits. I feel the lack of an itemized receipt was intentional so I couldn’t call the insurance company with details. I’m very uncomfortable going back to them as I feel they only want the most amount of money they can get. I should have read the reviews of their dental office too. Most customers that take the time to review them are unhappy with their fees and services.

Fantastic experience: Every person I had contact with, from the scheduling to the hygienist, to Dr. Harrison, to the receptionist, was kind, knowledgeable, and professional. This was my first visit, and they made me feel comfortable and provided great feedback on my oral health.

Negative experience: I went for a 6 month cleaning of my teeth only. They added 15.00 dollars to our 100.00 deductible and did not tell me until we got the bill. Then added many charges my insurance did not pay for and put the initial exam told these charges so my insurance would not cover them. It is called scamming the patient. I am very disappointed with your firm.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Dr. Harrison’s office my whole life, and I truly can’t imagine going anywhere else. It’s such a family-oriented place, and the staff is absolutely amazing, so welcoming, kind, and they genuinely remember you, which makes every visit feel personal and comfortable. Dr. Harrison is incredible, and someone you can fully trust with your care. And my hygienist Brittany deserves a special shoutout as well, she’s the best! I’m so grateful to have a dental office that feels like family. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a place that truly cares.

Negative experience: I recently had three fillings replaced. After the procedure, I mentioned to the hygienist that my bite didn’t feel right and felt unbalanced. She relayed this to Dr. Harrison, who suggested I wait until the anesthesia wore off and come back if it still felt off. While I understand adjustments can be part of the process, it would have been helpful to have a quick conversation with the dentist before leaving to discuss what I was feeling. It’s not always easy to take additional time off work for a follow-up visit, especially if more anesthesia might be needed. A little extra communication up front would go a long way in making the experience smoother and more reassuring for patients.

Fantastic experience: Cindy runs runs the front office, I met her on the phone last week as a new patient , she was very friendly, got me in for a cleaning Monday, Tuesday morning I had a previously troubled tooth unexpectedly fall out, she got me in within 2 hrs to address the issue and made the whole experience of filling out necessary forms seamless and efficient. The hygienist was very friendly and carefully attentive. The next day Dr Harrison did an excellent job extracting the troubled tooth and completing a bone graft and got me as good a new! I just met these people, was a new Patient and they treated me like I was one of their VIP patients. If you are in Jacksonville in need of a great Dental Team, you now know where to go.

Negative experience: Nice folks and a clean modern office. A few reasons why I couldn’t come back. I came in for an initial exam and cleaning. My hygienist was very nice, but quickly started saying I needed a deep cleaning. The doctor came in and looked at my teeth for maybe 2 minutes and agreed. I did not get the full exam my insurance was billed for, as they were going to do that on the next visit for some reason. (I was told “don’t worry, it’s already paid for”). Seemed very shady. Very high pressure sales tactics. Lots of high pressure gloom and doom about how I have bone loss and need it fixed right away. They somehow had to do the deep cleaning in two visits, to which insurance was only going to pay $40 or so towards one visit, not the other, so about $1000 out of pocket for two visits. I didn’t schedule it, but received two phone calls from the hygienist trying to schedule them. Are they on commission? Funny though, I had a deep clean maybe 4 months earlier before I moved here. I went to a new dentist after this visit and was told my teeth are quite alright, just needed a normal cleaning, and they recommended against a deep cleaning. Some light bone loss is expected in your 40’s anyways, something never mentioned by Dr Harrison or staff. I have since done research, deep cleanings are the new cash cow for dentist offices. There’s a 3% convenience fee for credit cards, which I understand that’s how capitalism works, but bring cash unless you want to pay more. The worst part was getting a nastygram from their billing desk, with the full amount due, and at the bottom typed out saying “it is YOUR responsibility to pay”, something snarky like that with caps. Checked with my insurance and they paid it on time as promised. I think they just wanted me to pay so I would have a credit on file. Again, nice people but I won’t go back. I do think some of these other Google reviews are paid for so take that for what it’s worth.

Negative experience: While the actual dental work was fine, and the dental assistant was above average, the overall patient experience is shockingly poor - not what I would expect from a professional medical practice. I can relate to several prior online reviews and want to add a personal experience that highlights just how poor the patient experience was for me. Unlike other dentists I’ve been to, this office demands payment before any services are rendered. During my second visit, that policy took a bizarre twist. I had already paid in advance for the Treatment Case work scheduled that day, but while I was in the chair receiving my Comprehensive oral evaluation, the dentist added additional procedures for that same appointment. At that point, while I was lying back in the chair with protective eyewear and a patient bib, a front office staff member walked into the treatment room with a second bill. I was told the added procedures would not be performed unless I paid immediately — right there in the patient chair. In my opinion, it was unprofessional, awkward, and completely lacking in basic respect for patient experience. When I said this practice was unacceptable, no compromise or alternative was offered. I had to either pay on the spot or the procedures would not be completed. I begrudgingly paid the bill in the chair and only then were the procedures performed. If you value basic respect, clear communication, predictable billing, and professionalism, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Wednesday I had a tooth pulled, and I was very nervous thinking it would hurt, but Mr. Rick was very attentive and careful when pulling the tooth, and he also calmed me down by always saying that it wouldn't hurt and that I could only feel it by pulling the tooth, and that's exactly what I felt, I didn't feel any pain. The people who work there are also very attentive. I highly recommend it!

Fantastic experience: WOW! I have had a problem with my dental implants for 13 yrs from another dentist. There was a big gap where food always got trapped. Dr. Harrison fixed it by capping the tooth in front so the gap was closed! Ingenious! Great staff too!

Negative experience: As a new patient and never having had cavities or any issues Dr Harrison said I had 5 cavities which he did all in the same visit. I subsequently had to get a crown and 2 root canals because of issues with his fillings. (Interestingly, he told my 17 yo son that he also had 5 cavities??). Do NOT recommend d. (And this is NOT false or slanderous. This is unfortunately my experience. I have been in pain for over 2 month and have spent over $2k addressing the issues with my fillings. People deserve to know!)

Fantastic experience: I am a 75 y.o. woman who, for many, many years, had an upper partial supported by a couple of teeth which I felt were in bad shape. My dentist at that time suggested implants, but I was looking for other options. Aetna, my primary care, listed Dr. Harrison as one of their in-Network dentists, and I saw his good reviews. As a result, I visited Dr Harrison and listened to his solution: crowns and a new partial, which was going to be a long procedure. However, Dr. Harrison said that the procedure could be made in stages, scheduling it for the periods when I am in town (my husband and I travel frequently). He would do temporary crowns and could keep the partial. This was a great solution for my problem. We are well advanced in the process and I agree with the previous good reviews: Dr. Harrison is an excellent professional, assisted by Draya, his dental assistant/tech, who complements Dr Harrison, explaining the process going on. She is also very skilled and knowledgeable and is always focused on the patient's comfort. The Front Desk staff is also very polite and efficient, and although the system the practice uses to deal with insurances seems convoluted, they manage to submit the claims to both my primary and secondary insurers. Although the practice doesn't advertise Spanish speaking staff, there is a technician who is fully bilingual and a great technician. This is an amazing team and I highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Due to moving here right before covid I did not find a dentist for 2 years. Needless to say I needed some deep cleaning. The dental hygienists are so incredibly kind and gentle! The office staff are very welcoming and efficient, always taking the time to explain benefits and any additional costs. And lastly, Dr. Harrison is very thorough and takes his time to answer any and all questions I have. Couldn’t recommend this practice more!

Luckily they had an opening for a cleaning and check up and I’m so glad I went here instead. It’s been way over due for me finding a new dentist here in Jax, and Kris was absolutely fantastic. The front desk was also so sweet & friendly, I wish I caught her name. She has beautiful red hair. It was the most comfortable but thorough cleaning I’ve had with Kris, and her demeanor was just lovely. She was very knowledgeable and taught me how to do things correctly, but also didn’t make me feel bad about doing it wrong (or waiting so long to go lol) I personally don’t have dental insurance yet and they went over all pricing before and after so no sticker shock and made sure I was comfortable. So glad I found someone I trust & can’t wait to be back for a regular oral hygiene schedule. Thank you so much Kris and the rest of the staff!

Fantastic experience: Received a tooth extraction yesterday with Dr Harrison and Draya. I was nervous as it was my first extraction ever. They did such an amazing job that I didn’t even know my tooth was out when it was over! They were so kind to me and told me to let them know if I felt any discomfort and there was none. I’m so happy with my experience and can’t recommend them enough.

Negative experience: Stay away unless you want to be overcharged for services. Like others, I did research to find a decent dentist for my college aged son who is out of state. Sadly, I settled on Dr. Harrison. This dentist pulled a "bait and switch" on my son and now I will be reporting him to BCBS fraud department, BBB, ADA and Florida Board of Dentistry. In February, I made an appointment with my son for an annual cleaning which he has been doing every 6 months since he was 3 years old. My insurance was verified through Blue Cross Blue Shield prior to the appointment. During the appointment, I received a phone call from my son who stated the dentist saw him for 30 seconds and said he was going to receive an upcharge well over and above the insurance because the cleaning would be extensive. I asked to speak to the dentist but he "was too busy." I told my son to leave the office because it was clearly a bait-and-switch and who knows how many imaginary "cavities" he may have (which he had none.) Unfortunately, an x-ray was taken prior to him seeing the dentist. My son subsequently went to another dentist who performed the cleaning with no upcharge. This dentist stated his teeth were typical for a six month visit. Now Dr. Harrison is charging me $100 for an X-ray and still refuses to contact me to discuss the incident. I believe Dr. Harrison saw a young college student and tried to take advantage of him. He should be ashamed of himself.

Fantastic experience: My extremely high quality level of service began with Erin ( works the front desk). She called to remind me on Mar. 19th to remind me of my April appointment and to let me know that if I was available they could get me in earlier. I asked about if any openings the day she called and she squeezed me in for what would be my very first visit there. She was extremely pleasant and helpful with the initial new patient intake paperwork. As soon as I completed it, Kris, the dental hygienist was there at the door to take me back. Kris was also pure “gold” with her demeanor, explanation of the process, the chronology thereof, and genuinely very pleasantly thorough. She was patient with my questions and most definitely a warm kind hearted person with her responses. Since this was my first appointment with the dentist in quite sometime, she explained her findings, while clinically examining my teeth and gums, as well as explaining what techniques and stages it would take her to reach the point where Dr. Harrison would be able to consult with me about the actual dental work that would be necessary. She also explained very thoroughly and demonstrating the type of home care would that would be necessary of me and answered all my questions fully to my understanding and satisfaction. She is definitely gem and huge asset to the practice, consistent with my experience with Erin. Dr. Harrison himself took the time to come in the room, even though I was only there at that point for a cleaning prior to a subsequent appointment with him. He was also very personable, and demonstrated much patience with me volunteering my symptomology, I gave him about what I believed were cavities based on their sensitivity for a long period of time to cold water and general pain. even though that wasn’t the purpose of the appointment. In fact, he went ahead and pointed out the X-ray findings which Kris had taken, which he believed were probably likely problematic in terms of the etiology of the pain and sensitivity I described to him. I explained to both him and Kris that I would be out of the country, departing in a month and not returning for a month so if it all possible, they could achieve in that very short timeframe as much as possible. Most especially, his initial belief that will likely require a root canal and cavity filling. They immediately sought to accommodate my time schedule by checking their calendar in the examination room and with Kris, I coordinated another visit for a couple days later. They definitely are going to try to fast track what I need done at a minimum before my trip. I would highly recommend their practice to anyone based on this initial experience, which typically I have never experienced such level of genuine concern , patience with my questions, and very well reasoned and thorough thoughtful responses to my satisfaction. Additionally, the proof is in the pudding, as far as them taking the time while I was still undergoing the cleaning procedure to book some dates within the same week to get me where I need to be prior to being out of the country overseas on business for a month. Fantastic experience: I had a great experience. They got me in within no time at all. They have an amazing office staff that make you feel welcome (even with ridiculous questions*). I hadn’t been to the dentist in ages and their dental hygienist was thorough, informative and happy to help me turn things around. I knew I had to have a tooth pulled and I was dreading it. The Dr and his assistant pulled it with no pain and had me on my. They have restored my faith in going to the dentist. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Very unhappy. I’ve been going to Dr Harrison many years. After Covid they had no hygienist and canceled my appointments several times. I also had zoom and the results were not good at all. I asked them how I could fix this problem and they literally said goodbye and no need to come back. HORRIBLE. I will now continue to return to Great Expressions where you are treated with love and kindness. Terrible practice and zero patient care.

Fantastic experience: ...new patient visit ...Theresa Drayo Dr Harrison appeared gentle and efficient!

Negative experience: Be sure and and ask the office manager how they "code" your visits for the insurance company ! I went for an initial visit, included X-rays and cleaning. They found it necessary to do a follow-up appointment for "pictures" and talking about possible crown installation...( I even asked if there would be a charge for me on this 2nd visit. Teresa, the office manager told me specifically there would be no charge for the pictures.I was not informed at that time that it would be taking my second insurance oral evaluation visit for the year. She had billed (Insurance coded) my first visit as a comprehensive periodontal oral exam and the second visit was billed as a comprehensive oral exam? So...it took up both of my insurance covered oral evaluation visits for the year, and they never informed me of it. In my opinion, that was not okay. The office manager Teresa originally knew I was concerned with my insurance covering everything. 6 months later, I went to a second dentist for an initial visit, cleaning and second opinion about crowns. (Crowns didn't seem to be an issue with the second dentist) Now, My claim for an oral evaluation visit has been denied by my insurance company for the second dentist... Because of the smarmy actions of the first. The dental hygienist at Dr Harrison's office that I had(who was very good) left shortly after my visit. Apparently, they can't seem to hold on to dental hygienists . Their words not mine

Fantastic experience: We have been going to Dr. Harrison for our Dental needs for many years and would recommend him to anyone. Theresa at the front desk always greets you with a smile, Kris, our hygienist, is very pleasant and thorough when treating our teeth. Dra'a is a very talented dental technician and I have always been satisfied with the treatment Dr Harrison has provided.

Fantastic experience: Such a great Dentist. Makes sure you don’t feel pain in the procedures. Takes time to explain things yet very efficient work so you aren’t thinking too long about what’s going on with those tools & you can get out of there quick enough. I really really really like this dentist more than any other I’ve been to in over 50 years…

Fantastic experience: My experience was awesome and very professional. Dr. Harrison and his staff made me feel right at home like one of the family even though I was a newbie. I was in and out. Not alot of waiting and nothing to complain about.

Fantastic experience: On my first visit, Dr. Harrison and Ms. Draya put two temporary crowns in today. Great job and done efficiently and in a very collegial environment. Besides, this practice cares about Seniors and those on Medicare, while most don’t around here in Jacksonville. I’ve found my go to dental practice. Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient of Dr. Harrison for 3+ years. When I first met Dr. Harrison, I needed quite a bit of work done - root canals (he referred me to the BEST endodontist in town!), fillings, mouth guard, etc. Dentists always struggle numbing me up and I let Dr. Harrison know as well (I've seen a LOT of dentists as I was in the Navy for 10+ years and you rarely see the same doctor year-to-year/different duty stations, etc). Dr. Harrison listened to me and has always done the most amazing job ensuring I'm pain free. Today I had an old filling redone. He numbed me with 1 shot and I was in and out of the office in less than 30 minutes (it has taken dentists 5-7 shots in the past). I can't say enough positive about him and his staff.

Fantastic experience: The dental hygienist did a very thorough cleaning of my teeth and she was very pleasant and made me feel comfortable during the cleaning.

Negative experience: I genuinely do not think they knew what they were talking about. Told me things about my teeth that weren’t true. & the office i ended up going to told me they’ve heard horrible things about this office. Dental hygienist needs to go to “how to speak to a patient and her parent class” because wow. She was EXTREMELY condescending. Dr Harrison was very sweet .. but the people he hires could use a little work. Do better Cindy. (I think that was your name.. I don’t care enough to really remember.)
