Fantastic experience: We recently moved to the area and needed a dentist. Grand Strand Dentistry was where we went and we were not disappointed. Olivia, my dental technician provides a comfortable and thorough cleaning experience. I had an anomaly in my mouth discovered by Dr. Davis and Dr. Armstrong. I had it treated by another local surgeon and it was benign however I commend Dr. Davis and Dr. Armstrong for bringing something to my attention that other doctors may have disregarded. We have no reservations about recommending Grand Strand Dentistry.

Negative experience: Called and made an appointment for a toothache I was having. I sent in all required information they asked for including insurance card. They even called me to see if I could come in sooner. After taking time off from work I get to the office for them to inform me they are out of my network for my insurance and I would have to pay in full. Now they were in network when I last went in, but why when they called asking for me to come in sooner was I not informed then about my insurance not being accept?!? I lost time from work and my issue still wasn’t fixed. When I asked them why she just looked at me and smiled, like I was just another bug annoying her and the older lady sitting behind her. No wonder the business’ parking lot is empty.

Fantastic experience: I would really like to thank the staff at Grand Strand Dentistry for a seamless and very positive experience today. I had an emergent situation that ended up needing a root canal/crown. I would like to add that I have not had many positive experiences with dental offices throughout my life, let alone since moving down to SC 5 years ago. I saw Dr. Swensen today and after a quick X-Ray, it was determined we could either extract the tooth or go forward with a root canal. Because of these previously terrible experiences I’ve had, I was less than thrilled at the idea of the sound of drills going and I have always had anxiety going to the dentist in general. However, the staff quickly put me at ease. I was able to obtain a form of sedation and extra numbing which helped immensely. From beginning to end, the experience I had here far exceeded my expectations. Thank you so much for treating me like a patient that actually mattered instead of just another number! It means more than you will ever know. For anyone seeking a reputable dental practice, I would highly recommend this facility!!

Negative experience: After reading some of these reviews, they sound very similar to what I have experienced at this office, and I am hesitant to return. For almost 3 years now, I have attempted to have a dental implant installed at this practice after a tooth broke while eating, and the dentist advised an implant would be the best solution. I was initially approved for financing to have the work done, but was informed the first bone graft and post install were done incorrectly and failed, and the entire process needed to be started over. Long story short, I was credited for that issue, which I appreciated, but almost 3 years and 3 three bone grafts later, with an additional $500 out-of-pocket expense for a cosmetic partial I didnt expect to need thinking the implant work would be completed in a timely manner, I STILL do not have a new tooth. I have been told the last two times my bone density wasn't high enough to support the implant while my insurance has been billed still for teeth cleaning visits while I am healing from the grafts, then there have been discoveries of the implant post size not being correct after the procedures began. That and proper bone density should be confirmed BEFOREHAND. The last instance I had to request an x-ray for the bone density to be checked before getting in the chair to not experience unnecessary excruciating pain, and wasted time again. I just can't shake the feeling now, that some of this work could have been prevented, and as I am scheduled again for another attempt at completing the implant procedure, I am leaning strongly to getting a second opinion with another dentistry practice. This experience has been too extensive, painful, traumatizing and extremely disappointing. The only reason why I rated three stars is because the dentist and staff have all always been kind and the office clean each of my visits these past few few years.

Fantastic experience: Appointment scheduled quickly thru email prompt responses. Beautiful office staff super friendly. Spotless modern equipment. Evaluation thorough and explained all options, no pressure respected my wishes. Billing explained completely with easy to understand print outs. I will definitely be going back! Glad to have found my new dentist!

They both always take time to spend with you and explain everything in detail. This office has top notch up to date technology. I used to be scared of the dentist but they have been so patient and compassionate that fear has gone away. This place genuinely cares about their patience!

My hygienist was Kaylee and she did a fabulous job and took excellent care while in my mouth. Needless to say it was easy to schedule my 6 month visit. Looking forward to that visit.

They gave a 5% discount because we had no insurance and offered a good monthly plan for routine maintenance cleaning and X-rays. We will continue to see this Doctor!!

Negative experience: This is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a dentist office… I filled out all the forms days before on the Internet. I told them about my insurance and all my information… I got there. I sat in the chair for over an hour waiting for somebody to look at me. They took three x-rays and then they told me that my insurance would not cover any of the part of my visit.. So now they’re charging me for the x-rays and for an exam which they never did, this place has horrible ethics and I strongly recommend not going here… I still plan to contact the BBB and the state dental board and I hope they reap what they sow…

Negative experience: I went in for a zoom whitening treatment. This was the second time I had it done in their office. The first time had no issues. The mouth insert was too big and she struggled to get it in. Split my lip open and split the inside of my lips. Had to get assistance inserting it. Never was able to get it in properly. When procedure was done my top lip was very swollen. Could not eat without stinging and discomfort. Today is two days after procedure lip still swollen and now very chapped. Inside lip still sore.

Negative experience: Would give negative review if possible- please see all the other recent negative reviews for Grand Strand Dentistry. Will not go back after being a patient for several years, something is not right here anymore, trying to get as much money as possible out of people. 1- They recommended I get 3 teeth pulled and implants for $8000, the dentist wouldn't even come in room to tell me the results of my exam, they had the finance lady with a loan agreement for $30,000 for me to sign before any work could be done. Have since saw another Dentist and Endodontist who both recommended NOT pulling my teeth but a root canal. 2) After 2 years of being told my Implants that had been placed just needed to heal a little more was told they were never put in correctly and they would replace them for free with a $7000 dollar charge for the Crowns. I had already paid $5000 for the Implants and a partial that was made that I never received. 3) They had me pay full amount of the visit $234 saying my Insurance would send me a check , but insurance sent money to them which I never got. 4) Was sent a bill for $200 for not showing up to an appointment that I had called and cancelled, 5) On 2 separate occasions was told I needed a filling only to be told once i was in the chair that no you will need a crown now which is much more expensive. I don't think they have the patients best interest at heart here anymore, seems like they are always wanting the more expensive procedures done. Probably trying to pay off that building expansion they just completed in my opinion

Fantastic experience: Grand Strand is top notch! Being new to the area establishing new doctors can be challenging and so uncertain on the experience you’ll get. Very grateful to get it right the first time. Dr Armstrong is so kind showing such concern for his patients. My hygienist was Mrs. Jen. She was fantastic and gave me the best information, x rays, and just overall care I’ve ever experienced.

Negative experience: I went to Grand Strand Dentistry back in October for a tooth extraction. Initially, I was told the tooth could be pulled for around $300, which I was fine with. While there, the staff strongly encouraged me to get an implant instead and explained that they use Cherry for monthly payments. I asked them to run my insurance and give me the total cost before I agreed to anything. After waiting about 30 minutes, they came back and told me the total would be $1,900 for four visits, everything included. Based on that information, I agreed and signed up with Cherry. The first two visits went fine. However, when I came in today for my third visit, I was suddenly told I owed an additional $1,700. I explained that I was already enrolled in Cherry and had agreed to a total of $1,900. The front desk employee admitted she could see the quote I was given, but said what she had in the system was different. After speaking with the office manager, they still insisted I owed $1,700 more. I made it clear I was not agreeing to any additional charges beyond what I was originally quoted. I also asked for a partial refund since, at this point, the only service performed was pulling the tooth. They refused. So in the end, I paid $1,900 for a single tooth extraction—something I was originally told would cost about $300. Please be very careful if you go here. Make sure you get everything in writing and verify exactly what you’re agreeing to. This experience was extremely disappointing and feels very misleading Update: After my original review, Toni reached out to discuss the situation. I explained everything that had happened, and she agreed there was poor communication and that the office believed insurance would cover more than it actually did. After speaking with the owner, they refunded $1,000 to my Cherry account, which I do appreciate. However, to continue with the implant, I would still need to pay more than the originally quoted $1,900 for the completed work. At this time, I’ve decided I unfortunately will not be returning. While they did refund some money and attempted to make things right, I’ve chosen to move forward elsewhere. Just be aware and make sure they actually contact your insurance, if requested, to confirm accurate coverage and payment amounts.

Negative experience: To start, I’ve been a patient with GSD for about 3 years now. However, every single filling I’ve had has caused me some sort of pain or discomfort while sitting in the chair, not normal pains, either. I was treated initially by Doctor Davis, who has since moved on to another office, and I did not experience much issues while under his care. However, when I was switched to Doctor Armstrong, things seemed to start getting progressively worse. Painful fillings, more painful than I am accustomed to, and also a very creepy demeanor, often referring to the female assistants as “sweet girl”. Even me, a 22 year old male, understands how that’s not okay in the office place. Some assistants would even say that Doctor Armstrong was rough when giving the shots, despite warnings given. I had a dental cleaning six months ago, and no cavities were spotted. At my next cleaning about 2 weeks before writing this, my dentist, Dr. Armstrong, noticed a cavity he had missed previously. Five days ago, I had the cavity filled, but I've since experienced complications, including cold sores, swelling, nerve pain, and sensitivity. Armstrong prescribed Acyclovir and Hydrocodone for the pain, and while they did call back to schedule me in for another look, I had lost some trust in him, especially in how they handle after-hours support. After letting him know about my issues, he simply told me that he was “disappointed in my decisions” when wanting to get a second opinion.

Positive experience: I have not had the most pleasant experience with getting partial dentures at Grand Strand Dentistry. It’s been one thing after another. Having to go in multiple times for scans, lab issues, and issues with a staff member. BUT despite all of that (I really just hope it was just a one time series of complications that doesn’t happen to anyone else) I do feel like most of the staff is very pleasant. The office manager called me to apologize for everything that had happened and she honestly seemed genuine. She did what she could to make it right. I still don’t have my partials yet - my appointment was pushed out another 2 weeks. But I intend to stay with Dr.Armstrong because all of the other appointments I have had - cleanings & cavity fillings - have been good experiences for me. And for someone who avoided the dentist for a long time that means a lot.

Fantastic experience: I’m normally very nervous about getting a cleaning and my vulnerability fear with my bridge coming out . Jenna put me at ease and flossed my bridge (which I wouldn’t let my old hygenist floss). It’s hit or miss when you move to a new state and have to pick new doctors and dentists. I picked a winner when I picked Grand Strand Dentistry and Jenna, my hygienist.

Negative experience: My husband went here to get his dentures back in Dec and from day one he kept telling them they are to big they don't fit right and that they were hurting him.we went back a lot to them about this problem also the dentures do not like up right at all. Here it is almost June and still they are not fixed. We paid a lot of money for them and he has not wore them one time because of this. We are very upset with this company. All we want is for them to fix them and line them up right but nope still nothing.

Negative experience: If I could do a negative 5 stars I would. Doctor is nice but absolutely destroyed my root canals that I found out later I didn’t necessarily need. He had me in the chair 5 hours. Did two crowns on teeth that had not yet had the root canals and messed up one trying to use that machine that makes the crown in office. Had to go back. Now one is totally broken and I’m in debt 4k from all this..they won’t return my emails.

They all refer out for surgical procedures and I'm just not a fan of that. Dr Armstrong handles everything. He is gentle and kind and proficient in his work. Staff is great as well. I went to him on the recommendation of a friend who had extensive work done. No regrets. Just the best.
