Negative experience: The lady that worked with my daughter was great! Made her feel very comfortable while being their. My complaint , I called after hours, my daughter was having really bad tooth pain crying. I informed them I did not have insurance yet due to the fact we just moved to Alabama. I asked how much the exam would be. She said $99 , I said ok thats not bad I repeated the price back to her twice and she confirmed it. So I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. Time for check out, I went to hand her my debit card. She said $350 I said excuse me no its $99 she said no its $350. I informed them the person on the phone told me $99. I said I would have never scheduled an appointment if id known it was $350 she can brush her teeth at home for free. She proceeded to ask me who told me that I said some lady after hours the scheduled the appointment. I said well I cant afford to pay $350 right now. This isnt my fault I shouldnt have to pay 350 when your staff told me $99. I completely understand if she went in to have something more done. But 350 bucks to brush her teeth was insane.

Fantastic experience: This was my first visit. I had not been to the dentist since 2012 and only 3 times in my 65 years. Dentists make me anxious and nervous. The staff here was absolutely wonderful. They put me at ease from the start. Dr. Jones was so gentle. It was a great experience. I might actually like dentists now.

Negative experience: First off! My daughter when she was 16 was left alone for 45 mins under gas puking all over layed way back in Chair. Coming out her nose into tubes and inhaling her own vomit!!! Yelling for help! She could have died! They said we won’t charge you for the gas. Even a worker had to find clothes in her in car to help my daughter! This was in 2021 she was already terrified of dentist but now it’s even worse and she has nightmares to this day!!! Then I go there when my daughter said mommy!!! Don’t!!! I also have huge dental fears. Well a girl named hope keep cutting my gums getting xray! I left bleeding and with massive ulcers. Then coming to get my temp crown hope kept dropping my mold on the floor! A 10-15 min procedure took 2.5 hours! She kept messing it up and dropping it and starting over many times, even the tray was a mess!!!! Then I needed a “flipper” For a missing tooth paid 300 for it and they couldn’t get it to fit after an hour and just said “this is best we can do”. It won’t even go in my MOUTH!!!!!! At all!!!!! Like at all!!!! My crown that hope did, to this day doesn’t sit well at all! This was 2024 I plan on taking the flipper back and showing them and this I’ll Fitted crown in hopes they will fix it. But I’m def terrified!!!! Is why it’s taking me so long to decide. What if they make it worse??? What if I’m mistreated badly again???

Positive experience: Edit to add an update: after posting the review below, the new office manager reached out to me. She is fabulous, listened to my whole timeline of what I had been dealing with for months, and filed my daughters’ claims correctly. If you have had trouble the last few months, I’d encourage you to reach out again - everything was finally handled in a timely manner and she was so nice and helpful. Original Review: I kept trying to wait until my issue was resolved to post this but since it is feeling like it is never getting resolved, here I am. I have been dealing with one issue since September 2023. Let me start by saying that we loved Chelsea Family Dentistry until the last year, but we have now moved elsewhere. My two children had a cleaning in September 2023. I get a bill for $219 which I almost paid until I realized that it is a cleaning and should be covered by insurance. I call and get to sent to voicemail and leave a message. I got no return call. 2 weeks later I got a bill via email so I tried to call back. Left another voicemail (I am calling during business hours and no, not during lunch). This continues to go on through January. I get a bill, I call, get to sent to voicemail, and no one calls me back over and over again. I call again and tell the front desk lady what has been going on. We talk for like 10 minutes while she looks through my file. She continually gets confused about everything on my file no matter how many times I explain it. Then she tells me to hold on, puts me on hold. I am on hold for 10 minutes then it sends me to that same voicemail message. I leave a message, hang up, and call back. The lady at the front desk (I do not know her name but she is not friendly at all) tells me yes she sent me to that voicemail because that is who I need to talk to. I tell her I cannot get her to call me back. She says "did you leave a message? She will call you back". To which I replied in the kindest voice I could manage "Ma'am respectfully I have left her 8 voicemails and she has never called me back once so I do not believe that is true." The call still ended with no resolution. That situation is still ongoing although funnily enough when they went for another cleaning in February, they filed it on the exact same insurance just fine. That is where the new issue comes in and the one that led us to leave and seek care elsewhere. I was annoyed with the billing issue but definitely believe in second chances and was not leaving over that. Then I take my kids in for their cleanings. At this appointment I also give the lady at the front desk (the one who was not friendly on the phone) a copy of my insurance card and ask her to please make another copy because of the billing issues we are having. I had to talk her into making a copy because she literally did not want to do it saying they already had the info in their system and I was like obviously that is not enough, please make a copy. She finally does. My kids go back. My youngest gets done and comes back to sit with me. My teenage daughter is still in the back. A hygienist comes to the door of the waiting room and asks if I am (oldest daughter's name) mom. I say yes and she proceeds to tell me and EVERYONE IN THE WAITING ROOM that my daughter needs to floss better, etc etc (which she probably does but she has not had a cavity in forever and I probably need to floss better too so that's whatever). But is it even allowed to discuss a patient's dental hygiene with the entire waiting room? My daughter was so embarrassed. That was the last straw for us. I don't even know what to do about the bill they cannot seem to fix but we definitely won't be back and have changed to a different dentist. I have talked to another person in the community having similar billing issues so apparently it is not an isolated incident. Those people are also leaving. If you read all of this, gold star for you.

Fantastic experience: I had an urgent tooth problem and they got me in fast! Such friendly helpful staff and I really feel good about my new dentist. She was so nice and very knowledgable! I felt vwry well taken care of. It is kind of like dentistry used to be starting with the first person at the desk. .

The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and you can tell right away it’s a family-oriented practice where patients have been coming for years everyone’s on a first-name basis. My hygienist, Brianna, did an excellent job with my cleaning. She was thorough, gentle, and made the whole process completely comfortable. On top of that, we had some great conversation, which made the experience even better. Dr. Johnson came in with such a joyful energy that really enhanced the visit. She’s clearly knowledgeable, but what stood out to me is how she explained everything in simple, easy to understand terms instead of heavy medical jargon. She also gave me helpful advice and product recommendations to keep my oral hygiene on track at home. Thank you, Chelsea Family Dentistry, for making my first visit such a positive experience. Fantastic experience: I had to have a molar pulled and I was very nervous. Dr. Johnson was so gentle and I never felt pain, not even the night of or day after. Even during the procedure she was so nice and gentle. Put me right at ease and I never felt the shot or pain during the procedure. 5 stars to the Dr and staff!!!!

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately I had to have a tooth removed. I must say that I've never seen as much preparation and concern about the process then at Chelsea Family Dentistry. Now I must admit that tooth did not want to come out. It hung in there for dear life. It seems that the bone and tooth had become one but the doctor went out. As for pain I barely felt anything even at the beginning when the doctor inserted the needle into my gums. In the past anytime I've had dental work done that needle has always been a problem. It didn't really hurt to the point I was ready to scream but it was very very uncomfortable. Not here. Out of all the times she inserted the needle I only felt one surprise prick. I'm embarrassed to say that I do not remember the doctor's name. All I can say is she is young, very attractive, extremely competent in her field and graduated from the UAB School of dentistry. To anybody reading this I can say with the utmost confidence that if you need dental work done without a doubt visit Chelsea Family Dentistry.

Fantastic experience: I love this office! If it’s not broken they don’t fix it. No one is trying to talk you into procedures you do not need or fix a problem that doesn’t exist. Flouride treatment? Yay, good thing. Filing on perfectly healthy teeth that aren’t hurting or causing any problems? Not a good thing. They will NOT do anything or recommend anything that will harm you in this office. Unfortunately I’ve been to an office in the past where the dentist literally stomped out because I wouldn’t agree to something he wanted to do. Coming to Chelsea Family Dentistry proved me right. Don’t take a healthy set of teeth and start messing with them. You can create problems you didn’t have. (BTW, I’m Vivienne’s mom! ) One recommendation they made did has changed my dental care amazingly: get a good electric toothbrush. Oh. My. Goodness! My time in cleanings was cut by at least 75% or more. My teeth are whiter and brighter. I’ve always brushed and flossed. But now my brushing is doing its job. I even have less sensitivity. Dr Jones and her staff are here to make your dental health better, not create more problems.

Negative experience: Taken an appointment for my 4 years child for cleaning. No body told me that they don't do filling for kids and now i need to pay new x rays for another dentist to do the job that they should be doing. If you don't work with kids, don't admit them for cleaning! Simple! Very un professional!

Negative experience: Permanent crown doesn’t match original tooth and now I need a root canal because I’m hurting . I told them it was sensitive when I was getting a permanent crown.

Negative experience: My front crown tooth wasn't symmetrical and they never gave me a chance to look at ot before they glued it permanently to fix or adjust. Pretty bad looks nothing like my original tooth!!!!

Negative experience: Went to Chelsea Family Dentistry because they are a covered Provider on UHC medicare website. To my surprise I got a $592 bill with the denial reason: OUT-OF-NETWORK. A simple dental visit results in insurance nightmares, hours wasted, and still unresolved. After 3 different calls to UHC medicare and UHC dental to argue that Chelsea dentistry is listed on the site as "Preferred providers", I discover that visit was billed incorrectly to a provider and dentist clinic I have never heard of: Dr. Poczatek from LUMA dentistry in Hoover. This is hours of time I will never get back to discover these fraudulent claims. I then called Chelsea Dentistry to notify them to fix and rebill for the correct Doctor from their office and clinic. Was told this may take a week and to check back next week. This almost a month ago on May 17th, 2024. I called back the next week and they are still working to fix the issue. How long does it take to fix a wrong and fraudulent bill? I even called LUMA to see if they can corrrect bill but was told I had to wait for Chelsea. Since then I have been getting weekly reminders that I owe $592, Since it has been almost a month, I am worried that whoever they use for billing may forward this to collections and affect my credit. They clearly do not care about the patients and the mental duress this puts on a person. Please correct this incorrect and fraudulent claim or waive my office visit fee if this simple billing cannot be done. I have already called 3 times to please do not ask me to call the office again. My number is on file so feel free to call me while someone is in the office on the clock. I do not want to call Medicare to report Medicare Fraud as this may severely hurt their business but I am a retiree on a fixed income and cannot afford to pay this $592 bill.

Negative experience: They used to be good, and sold out to some other company, and now their billing is handled out of state. They've been unable to work with my insurance provider and double billed me at least once. Nightmare to deal with now, avoid at all costs.

Negative experience: We have been a patient of Dr Jones for years and she is fantastic. Their billing department on the other hand is awful. We had a mysterious charge hit our bill in December and after multiple attempts to contact them, were told it was from almost 2 years ago due to "their billing department being behind". I have called multiple times, spoken with multiple people, and no one will follow up and provide a detailed statement showing what insurance paid and what we owe, they just keep sending me notices that we have a balance.
