Lasting Smiles of Stratford - aka Barnum Dental

Experiencia fantástica: I was having some serious dental issues that I had been consistently putting off for years. This involved a constant regimen of ibuprofen and just dealing with toothaches. A couple months ago I said, "Enough is enough!!!! I have got to fix my smile." So I called Lasting Smiles as I had gone to them in 2016 for a root canal when they were Barnum Dental. The young lady that answerers the phone was super helpful. She assured me that they would take care of me and she made good on that promise. I had several extractions done and had to get several cavities filled and they have taken impression of my missing teeth/remaining teeth and sent that to the lab. I will have my partial dentures in hopefully next week. Unfortunately I was on Suboxone strips for abiut 4 years and they rot my molars in a bad way and little by little my teeth just started breaking and most of them right at the gumline and where I would let the medicine dissolve under the tongue. The medicine saved my life but I paid a heavy price with the dental issues. To make a long story short I have gotten all the stuff that needed to come out taken out and had them make repairs on teeth that I am able to keep. Moving forward I will never be neglecting any teeth issues and I will also be staying current regular cleanings. I am so grateful for the kindness and grace and comfort they showed me along the way through these past few months. This afternoon I had my last two fillings done and I DIDN'T have to ask her to stop once. I don't remember her name but she is just the best dentist I have ever met. As a matter of fact, The whole team is amazing. I would highly recommend. They accept Husky as well. I am looking forward to my next visit when I am see my smile fully restored! Again, I can't find anything negative to say. 5 starts from me. 5 ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐ and another for going above and beyond!⭐

Experiencia fantástica: Went to this dental office not knowing what to expect …… Honestly was won over pretty much immediately by the receptionist then the dental assistant both were very nice they took x rays and the dental asst spoke to me then the dentist came in sat with me and gave me all my options was very straight forward and very accommodating I also met Tammy she was also very nice and sat with me to explain everything to me SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GREAT DENTIST GIVE THEM A CALL AND SET UP AN APPT !

Experiencia fantástica: Everyone in the office is so wonderful and helpful. Dr. Socarras went above and beyond. He was able to tighten this implant no other dentist would go near AND he confirmed my suspicions about my most recent implants and addressed that problem, too. I’ve seen two other implant specialist since I got my most recent implants and neither of them offered me the education, insight or options Dr. Socarras did. He’s the best there is. I loved the whole team and am so grateful to have found this place.

Experiencia fantástica: My mother came to get an extraction of a tooth and the procedure was quick and efficient. All the female staff were wonderful, professional, and compassionate for my mother. No negative part of this review is turned towards those wonderful ladies. During her procedure, my mother grabbed the male dentist's arm and in result he told her off saying if she grabbed him, he wouldn't continue the extraction and leave. She described the interaction to be extremely harsh and unnecessarily coarse. I understand not wanting your body to be touched and maybe having a strong tone of voice to set a boundary. However, in the context of extracting a tooth (which is a knowingly very scary experience) and the seemingly years of experience this gentleman had, I believe she earned some sympathy to say the least. My mother has a lot of anxiety and when faced with something she fears, has a very visual reaction. You could tell my mother was scared out of her mind. Again, I understand not wanting your body to be touched and the desensitization that comes with preforming tons of procedures over time. However, my mother was ignored by the male dentist after being lectured like a child and was not given a chance to talk like adults. She kept apologizing profusely afterwards, understanding the mistake she made, and the male dentist was nowhere to be seen. Graciousness and understanding is what makes a great healthcare worker. I understand that some may think harsh navigation when faced with any adversity is the solution but I believe when someone is crying on your chair and your response to them grabbing your arm in fear is a lecture, then I believe you've lost some emotional understanding along the way. My advice for that male dentist is to do some self reflection on how you interact and treat others. The world is not your monochromatic playground where your feelings are law. We are paying you to do a service and we expect some politeness. The fact that you have no empathy to someone so scared is disturbing for a healthcare worker. I have a feeling that this harsh attitude of yours is nothing foreign to those around you and I hope you realize how ugly it is to act that way. Again, thank you so much to those wonderful ladies. You guys are the ones that keep the great wheel of healthcare turning and I hope you can tell that all those stars above are for you.

Everyone there was so nice to me.im embarrassed of my teeth but they made me feel comfortable and told me there's things to help with my teeth.i felt comfortable. I will go back ti them.

Experiencia fantástica: Beautiful waiting room, everything is brand new and very, very clean. Got an appointment the very next day as I was in pain, and my next appointment isn’t more than a week. All the employees were super nice, and the office lady talked to me about what services my insurance does and doesn’t pay for, explained anything I didn’t know and answered all my questions. Lasting Smiles gets a 100% from me!

Experiencia positiva: The girls in the office were great— nice and professional. And I was able to secure a last minute appointment, which was good. The one helpful tip that I got from visit was I need to address my situation in a hospital setting. Some constructive criticism based on expectations that I have from my dental patient experiences: 1. When someone says they need to be seen for osteonecrosis, tell them you don’t handle this condition and don’t give them an appointment. It’s a waste of their time 2. At least take the time to look in the patient’s mouth. It makes them feel “seen” as a patient who is sitting in your chair. 3. Don’t just tell the patient “go to Yale,” especially if they’re not from the area. For example, give them some quick insight into why going to Yale will better serve them, how to access an appointment at Yale (walk in, call, etc). Give them a phone number for Yale or mention other options. Just take a little time to communicat the situation and helpful next steps with the patient. I think the patient deserves this. Thanks!

Experiencia fantástica: This past Friday I had an implant procedure. I have the worst dentist anxiety. Dr. S and his staff were very understanding and professional. I felt no pain and by the end of it, I went from tears to laughing at how worried I was. I live over 45 mins away and will be back!

I'm so happy that my brother referred me to Lasting Smiles because I will be going here for my Smile to be everlasting.

I’m happy to say I’m even happier with the service. Dr. Is beyond hilarious and his team are all AMAZING. My family will be scheduling our visits here for sure. Had 1 mercury filling removed.

Experiencia negativa: Updated 2024, lasting smiles is very different than Barnum dental. Since the change the staff have changed. This staff is not as friendly. They don’t provide information you on major procedures they expect you to know. I feel more information to patients about procedures would be helpful

Experiencia negativa: Had an appointment for over a week to fix a preexisting very small chip in my front tooth before it got worse. Refused to even have a look at it unless I got a full mouth of X-rays 18+. Then had to have a full cleaning. Only then I could reschedule an appointment to have the dentist evaluate and then possibly work on it or have to make another appointment to actually fix the 20 min worth of work. They have the right to have their policies but BEWARE! Expect multiple visits just to have a preexisting small chip repaired. Waste of time for me, and payday for them, since they get to bill the insurance for my x-rays now. ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! NOT FORTHCOMING ABOUT THEIR PRACTICE.

Experiencia negativa: Agnes has terrible people skill, she doesn’t greet you, I asked her how she’s doing if she’s ok she says mhmm. She’s very rough cleaning, my gums hurt, I don’t want to call her racist, but she seems like the type who don’t care messing things up. I remember last time I interacted with her the lady told her the pics aren’t done right and she didn’t care but wanted to proceed going forward. For that reason I didn’t come back but gave it another chance and I still meet the same person. I never had a painful cleaning experience and she stared at me in the eyes when I first seen her, no greeting no smile no nothing. Update on 11/17/23 my teeth are in so much pain ever since the cleaning. It’s like she damaged the gums and it shouldn’t take this long to heal. I didn’t feel this pain prior to cleaning. How do they have someone who has no proper training or even etiquette working there. It feels like she scrapped my enamel, or took her such a long time to clean when my usual cleaning goes pretty fast cause I don’t have plaque she forced the instrument on my gums and I have never experienced pain after a cleaning. Update 11/22/23. Went to another dentist place they checked and did x-ray and said I have no cavities, I forgot the Asian lady name that analyzed my teeth after Agnes tried to harshly scrape my teeth. I don’t know why I didn’t trust my gut feeling with the sinister glare she gave me when we made eye contact referring back to Agnes anyways be wary of that place. Anyways going off topic my main update is the Asian lady said I have several cavities and I didn’t

Experiencia negativa: This was the worst experience I have had in dental work. I went for a regular cleaning and Agnes the hygienist was very discriminative, rough and hurt my teeth. She showed no care with a very negative attitude and lied. They also tried to get me to sign a form for work that I declined and my appointment was not pertaining to a deep cleaning. Now their saying I have gum disease and referred me to a periodontist. Terrible hygienist.

Experiencia negativa: This dentist office is the most inconvenient office I have ever gone too. Multiple times my appointments have been cancelled or reschedule. As an individual who works this is unacceptable. They do not care about your work schedule they do not care about how they move appointments around for there own convenience . The most frustrating part is when they are trying to bully you into another appointment ma ok no you feel as if you don’t agree you won’t be seen at all. Calling people the day of the appointment trying to explain there going to be leaving soon is not professional at all. This office should be embarrassed with how they operate.

Experiencia negativa: Medicaid patients do not even try to schedule. The staff and management are very rude and only schedule appts that benefit them, not the patients. I was never even seen because I was rescheduled 3 times in a row and they wanted tp reschedule me for a 4th time. I get the fact that employees call out sick and have emergencies but this is beyond that. At that point, you just don't want the business and are clearly not trying to service Medicaid patients the same way you do other patients. Its called discrimination and I will be reporting this.

Usually kids are nervous when its time to go to the dentist. Not mine, because the kindness and gentle way everything is done, they're always happy to go. I definitely recommend this place.

Experiencia negativa: I went in for my cleaning to Barnum dental for the FIRST time . At that visit I was not examined by the doctor. I found that odd considering I’ve worked for dentists before and currently work for an oral surgeon but went about scheduling my second visit. 7 months later I go in for my second cleaning. Once the hygienist was done she told me I had a cavity since the FIRST visit & tried dismissing me ! I asked if I wasn’t going to be seen by doctor. She went to check and came back telling me he was in a meeting … I was furious! I paid out of pocket for my first visit and wasn’t even seen by a doctor to make sure there was nothing of concern… I return and am informed I’ve had a “cavity” this whole time and had gone untreated because of the lack of care of the doctors present. She went to get the doctor informing him I wasn’t going anywhere unless seen. He came in, took a look at my lower left teeth - “diagnosed” me with cavities and left. He didn’t care to examine all of my teeth to make sure they didn’t miss anything else. The hygienists are amazing but the lack of care of doctors is beyond me !

The team attending to me was more than accommodating and made me feel comfortable and calm. They presented themselves not only professionally but also as human beings. Heather was the hygienist who did x rays and cleaned my teeth. I had special needs and she went above and beyond to make me comfortable. Why let me schedule not one but two appointments after the fact just to call the night before to cancel both times! I stand by what I said because it is very much the full truth. !!!!!AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!! Dr. Socarras is extremely unprofessional. I had two appointments for X-rays. The second time I came in due to new tooth pain, he refused to even look at my teeth or at the new X-ray. He seemed bothered by the fact that I was there a second time even though it was for a different tooth. Not a kind caring doctor at all! Not only that, but he decided to cancel my appointment to get my cavities filled less than a week before the appointment that’s been made for a month now! I’m extremely upset as I have been waiting a month for this appointment and he had no reason to cancel other than he didn’t want to do it anymore. How rude and unprofessional! I’d give zero stars if I could. You’re better off finding a better more kind and caring place to go. Update: I was crazy enough to give them a second chance before posting this but he did it again! They called me at 9:00pm last night to cancel my appointment for fillings LAST MINUTE scheduled for 9:00am the next morning! I delay with so much upset and anxiety due to the horrible unprofessional people! SCREW THIS PLACE!!!!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Edward's and her staff are amazing! They accommodated at the last minute to get my tooth pulled for my emergency invisalign appointment tomorrow. It was the best time I've ever had getting a tooth extracted, seriously. She is so calming, funny and a wonderful personality which made the process so much more bearable. Would recommend her to anyone! She also referred me to Bridgeport Braces and I'm loving the customer service from both dental practices.

Smiling faces , ( you can still tell under those sanitary masks)warm greetings and a very friendly professional staff ....Getting prepared for the room was in a relaxed atmosphere and when my Dentist , Vanessa FRANKS entered I knew I was in good hands. The only thing that bothered me was this very pretty lady had her face professionally covered with the COVID-19 mask. My treatment there was painless , short and Dr. FRANKS didn’t want to go for coffee. :(

I was at work and after eating lunch I was experiencing pain on the left side of my face, as it was growing stronger and more unbearable, I was in tears. Desperate for a solution, I decided it was time to google local dental offices. LUCKILY my first pick was Barnum dental & after hearing my issue, hearing it in my voice that I WAS NOT okay Kimberly did not hang up that phone until she was sure she could help me & that’s exactly what she did, I thank god for people like her in this world. I was so scared and praying to god this wasn’t my time because the pain felt like it was reaching my temple so unfortunately the meds weren’t enough and I had to go to the ER for injections just to get me through the night. But I was so thankful for Kimberly that the next day for my appointment I just had to let her know how much I appreciated her & DONT get me started on the Doctor Efrain? Yeaaaa he’s an awesome dude! I can honestly say I found my GO-TO dentist spot! Definitely going to recommend! Thank you guys again

Experiencia fantástica: let me start by saying I have bad anxiety and have had bad experiences with dentists I had a bad tooth that I knew had to be looked at I let it go for a week before I knew I had to get it taken care of I googled dentists in my area and Barnum dental came up I knew soon as I walked through the front door I was in the right place the staff at the front desk Jackie and kiara we’re so friendly and awesome made me feel better right away and then I met Dr socarras He was also awesome he told me don’t worry you won’t feel a thing and he was right I was in and out very quickly I will recommend Barnum dental to everyone I know truly a great place ❤️

Experiencia fantástica: I called for an emergency visit without insurance and seen within 24 hours. All of the staff was super friendly and helped me in a timely fashion. Since having to pay out of pocket, I thought the prices would be outrageous; however, they worked with me and the prices were not bad.
