Experiencia negativa: My husband and I have been patients at College Ave Modern Dental since October 2024. Our early experiences were excellent, with attentive care from both the clinical (specifically a former hygienist Brittany) and front office staff. Unfortunately, the quality of service and communication has declined significantly over the past year. We have experienced multiple appointment cancellations, routine visits scheduled on days when no dentist was available to perform an exam, and most recently, an appointment that was booked on a day the clinic was closed. On more than one occasion, I received a cleaning without seeing a dentist, despite expecting and paying for a comprehensive visit. The front office staff has always been kind and professional, but the clinic’s scheduling and operational issues have become too frequent to overlook. Patients take time away from work and personal commitments for these appointments, and repeated disruptions show a lack of respect for that time. It’s disappointing because this practice once provided excellent care. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing scheduling and communication problems, we will not be returning.

Experiencia negativa: I visited this office for a routine checkup and felt like the entire process was quite rushed from the moment I arrived. The staff seemed a bit scattered, and I spent a long time waiting in the chair before someone actually came to see me. It was not the most comfortable experience, and I felt like my questions were barely answered before they were trying to move on to the next patient.

Experiencia fantástica: Delightful dental experience. Excellent cleaning; clear communication from my dentist about my current health & future options without any pressure. And the front staff was INCREDIBLY helpful with my insurance!

Experiencia fantástica: Starting Invisalign in my forties felt strange at first, but this clinic made it less awkward than I imagined. They treated me like a normal patient instead of acting surprised I wanted straighter teeth later in life. Instructions for cleaning trays and switching aligners were very clear. I did lose one tray while traveling, and they helped arrange a replacement faster than expected. Customer service here has honestly been excellent throughout treatment.

Experiencia negativa: This had to be one of the worst cleanings that I have ever had. I had water all over my face and down my shirt. To top half did not get flossed but at this point I was ready just to get out of the chair. I got full X-rays but did not visit with the Dr. after, I am not sure of the point of the X-rays if they were not going to be gone over with me. I will be finding a new dentist even though I have been here for 6 years.

Went well, but afterwards, the fluoride tasted terrible in my mouth and I was glad when the hour had passed and I could clean my mouth out with something that didn't taste as bad. Gentle hygienist as always. I just hope my next dentist has as gentle and upbeat group in the office as I have had here in Fort Collins.

Experiencia negativa: The techs and office staff are usually quite friendly, so none of this is their fault. But the dentist just up and left, unannounced, and the turnover rate seems relatively high in general. I highly suspect that I was being wrung for money as the recommended options were all temporary, and more expensive, whereas my new treatment-plan with a different dentist is far more permanent, better-suited to meeting my personal needs, and yet still less expensive. There was also a big issue getting them and the endodontist they referred me to, to actually communicate with each other in order to provide proper treatment. I sat with an infection dangerously close to the bone for a year because they couldn’t be bothered to reach out to the endo they work with... My new dentist got ahold of them in 5 minutes and set me up to extract the tooth immediately. I just really wouldn’t recommend this office….

Experiencia negativa: No dentist! Hygienist was fair but not as thorough as old hygienist. This office has been without a dentist for months. I booked my next 6mo with another dentist.

Experiencia negativa: I left a 5 star review 3 years ago that said "This is a friendly, fast office, and they're on it with handling my insurance. Always good experiences." I am updating my review to 1 star. I showed up today after several text reminders for a 1 pm appt and the office is closed and locked. I was able to speak with someone at the surgery center who informed me the office is fully closed this week. Whoever manages the schedule left my appointment on and didn't even try to notify me of the closure. The last time I came in, the office staff almost began prepping me for surgery. I told them I thought they had the wrong file and I was just there for a cleaning. They said they couldn't do the cleaning and exam I was scheduled for, that it was a surgery only day. Despite the fact I was on the schedule and had received appointment reminders. I have had a different hygienist every time I've been in the last 3 years. Two of them have left me in intense pain. The office staff has been late from lunch, delaying appointments they scheduled post-lunch. One doctor ignored a valid concern I had about a dark tooth. The next doctor overreacted to my dark tooth and told me I would need a root canal right away - a worry which the (very expensive) surgeon he referred me to said was overblown. I feel for the managerial staff here, but the way this place is run is just unacceptable. I used to really like this office, and I never minded going to the dentist, but this office has been steadily going downhill and their hygienists and dentists have made me uncomfortable and nervous about future cleanings and exams. Thank you to the friendly young man at the surgery center who answered my call today and did his best to help, but this was the final straw for me to find a new dental care provider.

Experiencia negativa: Used to have a great experience here but won’t be back. Was not told until I was underway with my cleaning appt that there is currently no dentist employed there. Just one dental hygienist and reception….?! I also didn’t feel confident in the clean, they did not even floss under my permanent retainer bar and there was obviously no dentist for a final inspection. I’d avoid, clearly having some management issues

Experiencia positiva: Professional, kind & efficient staff. I’m editing my review. These still stand but I’ll be finding another dentist as they cannot keep hygienists. My appointments have been canceled & needed to be rescheduled twice & my husband’s once. This concerns me & is very inconvenient only finding out the day before our appointments.

Experiencia fantástica: After Covid I desperately needed a new dentist...Modern Dental was close to my house so I just happened to try them out. I have now been a very happy client/customer for over five years. I highly recommend them.

Experiencia positiva: Folks here are super nice, the facility/equipment is modern and clean and overall I enjoy getting dental treatment here. The reason for not 5 stars is simply that they're only open 4 days a week, and no weekend hours.

I called them at 8am on Monday morning to request treatment. I was given a same day appointment and the issue was taken care of quickly, professionally and thoroughly.

Experiencia negativa: I had a very disappointing experience at this dental office. I booked an appointment specifically for a cleaning, which I clearly stated on their website and confirmed again over the phone. The $59 new patient offer sounded great, and I rearranged my entire day—woke up at 5 a.m. for work and made sure my mother-in-law could help with the kid—just to make this appointment happen. When I arrived, the front desk staff was kind and welcoming. The hygienist took me in and immediately told me they needed to take 18 x-rays before anything else. After the x-rays, an overly friendly doctor came in to talk. He suggested I consider removing my wisdom teeth—even though they don’t hurt and my regular dentist has said they’re under control. He also mentioned something unclear between a crown and a neighboring tooth but said there were no cavities. Then the hygienist returned with a $294 treatment plan and told me to sign so they could schedule the treatment plan. When I asked about the cleaning, he said, “Oh, it’s 2: 50 pm already” and added that he only had 10 minutes left before his next patient. So, after all that, I didn’t even get the cleaning I was promised. Yay me! Right? I left extremely upset and in tears. The receptionist again was very kind and apologetic, but the way the office operates felt like a bait-and-switch. My husband and my manager wanted their $59 ofer too, but they waited for me to see how it goes and if i am satisfied. Oh well… they lost me and 2 other prospective patients.

Experiencia negativa: I’ve had a really disappointing experience here and unfortunately can’t recommend this office. I had a crown placed just four months ago, and it has already failed. The first crown I was given didn’t fit at all and had to be removed within 24 hours — even the dental assistant admitted it probably wasn’t mine. A second crown was made, which never felt right and was too high, but I was told to "give it a month." Now, I’m experiencing pain when chewing, and a second opinion has confirmed there’s a hole in the crown and excess cement left between my teeth. To make matters worse, I was recently told by this office that another tooth needed a crown, but the second opinion dentist said a simple filling would be fine — no crown necessary. I’ve spent time and money trying to fix mistakes that never should have happened. My insurance won’t cover another crown this soon, so now I’m paying out of pocket to redo dental work that should’ve been done correctly the first time.

Experiencia negativa: I’ve been there three times. While my first two visits were fine, my most recent experience was disappointing. The hygienist seemed unprofessional and lacked the necessary knowledge and skills to handle patients properly. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

My X-rays, exam, and cleaning were thorough, and they shared helpful at-home care tips. It had been over a year since my last check-up, so I really appreciated that no one tried to upsell me on anything, and I never felt rushed. I truly feel like I’m in good hands here and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them if you’re in Fort Collins.

Experiencia negativa: Went in today for a routine cleaning and was surprised at the predatory nature of this establishment. I am new to Fort Collins and needed to find a new dental office and this spot was recommended by a colleague. The hygienist did not seem knowledgeable about their trade and the cleaning was painful at points (I should note that I have exemplary oral heath and a cleaning has never hurt before). I even questioned if this person was actually licensed or not… Then, the dentist came in and tried to upsell me a bunch of work I do not need including orthodontics after I have already completed and was satisfied with Invisalign treatments at a different office. My mom is a dental hygienist working for over 40 years in the practice, I sent her my x-rays and she confirmed that none of the prescribed care was actually needed. She also just cleaned my teeth about 9 months ago, so she has seen my mouth recently enough to know that the advice was bunk. It is COMPLETELY unethical to suggest someone get a crown well before it is needed (if it is ever even needed at all). The dentist was aggressive and condescending towards me even though I never once mentioned that I did not believe I needed the suggested care. It was like he could tell I wasn’t buying it and getting increasingly angry about it. This place is looking to scam you and make as much money as possible from each patient, sales quotas are all that matters. If you want to keep your teeth, don’t come here!

As it was my first time I felt very comfortable. Dr. Shergill is very knowledgeable and friendly and soft spoken I would recommend him to my family and friends.

Carri is such a warm and kind person and she is so attentive to your needs as a patient. My son is nervous of the dentist, especially getting X-rays done, and at his last appointment Brittney (so sorry if thats spelled wrong!!) did so well distracting him and giving him so much positive encouragement during his exam. He left feeling on top of the world. Dr. Shergill, having only met him one time so far, was really great in explaining treatment for myself and my son. Glad he is the new dentist at this office! Experiencia negativa: I had my appointment moved twice both times reschedule me weeks out. I showed up at my appointment time with the confirmation text and they didn't have an appointment for me. I then called on the day of my rescheduled appointment and they had canceled it completely without saying anything. Serious scheduling issues. There are tons of other dentists in town. DO NOT MAKE THIS YOUR FIRST CHOICE. I have been a client for years and am now going to a different dentist.

Experiencia negativa: Worst experience ever!!!! Avoid avoid avoid... I've been in healthcare for over 20 yrs. I lost a crown, have gone to this office for years! Multiple providers have changed at this office location, no problems. They currently have a temp employee that informed me immediately on arrival I was self pay, I responded no I have dental coverage. I text my boss, confirmed. I called Cigna and verified my own benefits by calling the number on the back of my card. Told temp employee and put card on counter, she informed me it wasn't her job to verify patients benefits. Gave her back my card, it doesn't indicate dental, only medical on the card, haven't received a new one as numbers haven't changed. During scheduling, I tried to confirm a cleaning appt that was supposed to be the week before but I couldn't move up an hour for work so they gave my spot away and never called me back, I didn't know if I was suppose to go or was just SOL! I guess I'm SOL. Why, rude... The temp employee didn't seem to comprehend verifying appts or even scheduling future appts maybe wasn't trained to schedule patients, told me over 5 times she was just a temp employee. I was turned away for service as this temp employee reported to the provider that I wasn't being polite. I was, I was just honest. I do have insurance. Maybe some training for your staff on customer service and how to do their jobs!

Experiencia negativa: I scheduled an appointment to have dental work done, I have a tooth that has really been bothering me. I had to schedule out almost two weeks because of my work schedule, that's fine. I rushed out of work to get to my appointment early just in case I need to fill out paper work and they closed the office early for the day and didn't bother to call or email me. Very disappointing and now I have to go even longer with an achy, sensitive tooth.

Experiencia negativa: Very poor communication with clients. I make my appointments every 6 months and always show up. I got a call 4 days before my appointment at 2pm while I was at work so I wasn’t able to answer. The message left was a reminder about my upcoming appointment. I show up to my appointment and they cancelled it. Be careful, you only get ONE chance to confirm your appointment or they will cancel it and NOT TELL you about it.

Experiencia negativa: College Ave is a decent dentist office, but they will cancel every single appointment you have. I think my wife and I had 5 appointments canceled in a matter of months. And when they try to reschedule, the only availability is for like 5 months later. If you actually get in for an appointment, they will do a decent job. But it's almost impossible to do so! I wouldn't waste your time with College Ave.

Experiencia negativa: I unfortunately am having to update my review. I went here for 2 years, but my last visit I had impressions done for a new retainer. I also mentioned at the appointment that my insurance changed and provided my updated plan. They ended up losing my impressions and I had to call back a month later when they assured me everything was okay. I waited another month and then called again and found out the impressions were lost. They let me come in and get new impressions and they had said they would take 10% off of my price to pay for the retainers. The retainers then came in two weeks and they charged me full price plus a charge for the dental preventative exam. I and my wife called them multiple times over a month before they realized they never changed my insurance information which I explicitly asked them about each call. I ended up paying my full price for retainers. I really did like their dental services, but the insurance part was a pure headache to deal with, and their ability to work through issues is lacking. I will not be returning. I had to call two times to cancel the appointment I had scheduled with them. Update: I got a call the day after bringing up my experience with a new dentist. They told me my account was up to date and clear at a zero balance. So just go to a new dentist apparently if you want to hear from them.

Experiencia negativa: I've been dealing with a billing issue from a prior visit for over two months now. I've made at least eight calls to their office to try to get an answer/ resolution, but every time I call I get some form of "we'll get back to you" and I never hear back. I've even asked to receive a call back and explained that I have not heard back on prior calls. That does not change anything sadly. I eventually just paid the bill to avoid collections since I wasn't sure if I would ever hear back from the office to correct the bill. I really liked the dentist/ hygienists, but this issue is forcing me to look for another practice.

Experiencia negativa: Admin is a mess. I called and rescheduled a cleaning appointment then received texts saying I was going to be charged a no-show fee for missing the original appointment I had cancelled. I called to clear things up and they said the new appointment wasn't on their schedule at all. I scheduled it a third time and was receiving both confirmation texts as well as texts saying my treatment had not been scheduled. I confirmed my appointment and then got a cancellation text the morning of my appointment. I'll be finding a new office.

Experiencia negativa: My initial cleaning/x-rays were okay. I mentioned a concern that I had and they assured me that the dentist was very conservative and would give me a thorough examination and look at my x-rays before offering a next step. He barely looked in my mouth before telling me that 2 teeth need to come out, then offered bridge/implant options. It doesn't stop there, I had the work done, then they charged me $1000.00 more than the were contractually allowed to by my insurance company (they made me pay before I got my benefit statement from the insurance). I have been trying to contact them for 2 months to get my $1000 back and they have been evasive, untruthful, and completely ignoring all requests for paperwork and explanations (because they know they overcharged me.). Do not go to this dental practice.

Experiencia negativa: I've been here a couple times now (initial cleaning, some fillings, and a follow-up cleaning) and my experiences were always bad. I got a horrible virus after my first visit and was bed bound for a month. I tried to schedule my fillings for weeks but they kept being closed when I'd show up. When I finally got my second visit, the dental assistant who filled my cavities kept getting frustrated, huffing, and dropping her own hair in my mouth then complaining about it. She left my fillings poorly done and my bite wasn't corrected until the follow up cleaning. I was done with this place after my experience with her but only came in for the third visit because Kleen covered the cleaning. NOW they keep calling me at absurd hours to try to remind me to come in for another cleaning. It was just after 7pm when they called today. They aren't even open past 5pm so I have no idea why they're doing this. Avoid this place and go to a better dental office.

Experiencia negativa: Modern Dental advertised all over the Internet a special price of $59 that included an X-ray, exam and a cleaning for new customers. The very friendly hygienist took all manner of x-rays and photos and pointed out problems on a state of the art computer screen. The Dentist reviewed her work and said that she saw no problems with new cavities or old crowns. I was then presented with a proposal for a "deep" clean for $1700.00. When I requested the $59 cleaning they said that was only for "healthy mouths" and they could not do it. I call marketing FRAUD. Nice people, modern equipment but I made an 8 mile bike ride and didn't get a cleaning. Chef Ted

Experiencia fantástica: Been coming here for years, mostly due to my hygienist Jessica C. There have been a few different doctors, all have been good, but Jessica C is consistent and excellent! Cleanings go smoothly, x-rays are fast, very helpful advice with absolutely no shaming. If she ever decides to switch offices or practices, I'd be switching too.

I have been a patient at modern dental for several years and honestly I’ve thought about leaving a time or two, that is until I was lucky enough to get Jessica Croteau as my hygienist, now I won’t see anyone else. When I make a recommendation for Modern Dental—I don’t recommend the practice, I tell people to ask for Jessica. I have no idea who the dentist is, there’s always a new receptionist, but Jessica is consistent and frankly the only person who has ever taken the time to talk long term personal care and make suggestions for what my needs are. She is amazing! I’m so glad for the scheduling error that gifted me her expertise. Thanks so much Jessica!

Experiencia fantástica: I went to this dental office because I thought there might be a problem with my teeth. Both the assistant and the doctor examined my teeth and implants and found nothing wrong. They did not charge me for their examination.. I was very impressed.

Experiencia negativa: These people have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to insurance. Do not trust them when they say your insurance will cover basic cleanings and x rays. They have no clue what they're talking about and will just bill you when the insurance doesn't pay them.

I'm always nervous the first time a dentist that is me to see if they wait until I'm numb enough first, and they were very careful and it was fine. The receptionist who works both locations is awesome too.

Experiencia negativa: The staff at College Avenue Modern dental is friendly, and for a few years we felt that our family dental needs were being addressed here. However, after the main dentist left to join another team elsewhere during the pandemic, the staff covered the cleanings without a dentist until he was replaced. (Still charging for these visits as if they were being overseen by a doctor.) The fees stayed the same, and they started to charge $50 for adjusting tentative future appointments (even those made 6 months in advance for the next cleaning.) We recently asked to come in for some advice on a dental concern, and the only help that was offered was a quick referral elsewhere. The bulk of the staff is new; seemingly not aware of how to use the billing system, access patient files, or how to operate x-ray machines (they took a recent picture, couldn’t find the file, had to do it all over again.) The overall feeling of this office is that it is being run by someone who is in it for profit, and may not be trained as a dentist themselves. My current impression is that this office doesn’t have any desire to provide quality (and long term) care to my family, and we will be going elsewhere; effective immediately.

Not only are they empathetic, consummate professionals, it just so happens they do really great work, too! As for the office itself, the environment is always clean and comfortable. They've honestly helped me get my dental health back on track and for that I'm truly grateful.
