Experiencia fantástica: I recently visited Stephens Dentistry for a cleaning my second visit within six months, and I came back for a special reason: my daughter was getting married and I wanted my smile to be absolutely perfect for the big day! I’m so glad I did. My dental hygienist Daniela was absolutely wonderful. She was thorough, gentle, and made me feel completely at ease the entire time. You can tell she truly takes pride in her work and genuinely cares about her patients. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a hygienist who goes above and beyond. I also want to give a special shoutout to Dr. Rares Raibulet. During my examination, he was incredibly thorough and actually discovered a crack in one of my teeth that I had no idea about. He took the time to carefully explain exactly what was going on and walked me through the entire process of what needed to be done no rushing, no confusing jargon, just clear and caring communication. That kind of attentiveness is rare and truly appreciated. The overall experience at Stephens Dentistry was outstanding. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, and parking is a breeze no stress before your appointment. If you’re looking for a skilled, reputable dental office where you feel genuinely cared for from the moment you walk in, look no further than Stephens Dentistry. I will absolutely be back and would recommend them to anyone!

The dentist’s use state-of-art technology and clearly look out for my interests which gives me confidence I’m getting the best possible dental care. New dentists took over the practice. I now see Dr Montoya. He also is a terrific dentist, warm, gentle and thorough. I fully trust his advice. After my wife’s dentist retired I convinced my wife to be a patient in the practice. She too has the same feelings about the care and especially how terrific is Dr. Ma. Thank you all, see you in six months for my next cleaning.

At the recommendation of a friend I called Stephens Dentistry, and got an appointment the next morning. Everything about my experience, from that first phone call and throughout my visit, exceeded my expectations. First, Dr Guliana and all the staff were very nice, and it felt real, not forced. plus everyone was professional to the highest degree. And the technology is state of the art in ways that expedited the procedures plus minimizing my discomfort. Plus Dr Guliana called me the next morning to be sure everything was ok. Stephens is just a first class operation, in patient-friendly offices, with beautiful views of Lake Michigan and the Evanston and Chicago skylines. Tom McMahon

Experiencia negativa: TL;DR: The new ownership kept the practice name and patient data, but entirely voided warranties on previous dental work. They charge exorbitant, out-of-network prices and operate with a strict profit-first mentality. Save your money and go elsewhere. I am sharing my experience to warn both returning and prospective patients about the current business practices at Stephens Dentistry. Four years ago, I had a crown placed at this office for almost $2000. Recently, the crown prematurely cracked and failed. When I contacted the office to have it addressed, I was informed that because the practice is under "new ownership," any previous warranty is completely void. They strategically kept the practice's established name, reputation, and all patient records (down to using the same email address!) to maintain business continuity, but legally shielded themselves from any accountability or warranties on previous dental work. Their idea of a "goodwill gesture" was a mere 10% discount on a replacement crown, bringing the cost to over $1,800. This is absolutely exorbitant and roughly twice the price of what other dentists in the Evanston area charge for equivalent or better work. When you pay top dollar for dental work, you expect exceptional quality and accountability for their work, but Stephens Dentistry offers neither. To anticipate the practice's likely response to this review: in addition to bluntly stating they voided all past liabilities due to the ownership change, they will probably also claim they cannot honor the warranty because I haven't been back for regular cleanings at their specific practice over the last four years. I have maintained my dental hygiene, just not with them. Why? Because Stephens Dentistry is out-of-network for basically all insurances and outrageously expensive. The previous management once admitted to me their fees were intentionally set at the 85th percentile of local practices, and it is abundantly clear the new ownership operates with the exact same "cash cow" mindset. In a university town like Evanston, operating with such an unscrupulous, profit-first mentality is deeply disappointing. If you are a long-term patient, be aware that your past warranties mean absolutely nothing to the new owners. If you are a new patient, be prepared for highly inflated pricing. I have decided to take my business elsewhere and strongly advise others to do the same.

They have all the latest tech and equipment, which I genuinely appreciate and believe makes a huge difference in providing top tier care. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. And genuinely nice, not the forced nice that comes as a directive from leadership. They all seem really happy to be there. Vanessa was awesome and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I feel very confident in my dental plan that I worked through with Dr. Guliana.

Experiencia fantástica: I just want to say that how great the folks at Stephens Dentistry are. I have been going there for about 40 years. My parents went there before me and now my kids go there. I was there when “Big Jim” was the main guy. When he retired, two of his kids took over the business: Dr. Brian and Dr. Bob. Both were extraordinary dentists. So when they retired I thought we would have to find a new dentist. But No! We stayed on when the brothers retired and sold the business to Dr. Montoya and Dr. Raibulet and we are thrilled. They had big shoes to fill as far as I was concerned and they have really done a great job carrying on with high quality dentistry with the best service and dental hygienists on the north shore! The staff is amazing and attentive, the quality of their dentistry is also top notch. I am glad our family stayed with Stephens Dentistry after the sale. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a dentist on the north shore. You will be well taken care of.

Experiencia negativa: The staff is nice, but they are not in network for any insurance. The prices are too high and out of line with normal prices. The routine exam with cleaning was $385. My last dentist charged $195 and because I have dental insurance, it was paid as preventive. The office said my share would be $45. But then my insurance company never got the claim to process. In addition, while they say they take insurance, that means they bill your insurance company, not that they actually accept what the insurance pays. I had a filling replaced and they charged $318 with a proposed treatment plan insurance payment of $254.40. I paid my share up front. But Delta Dental allowed only $125.00. Finally I never got a bill for the cleaning. 2 months after the service along I got a bill for the filling without any explanation for why there was a previous balance for which I never received a bill. Friendly is one thing, money is another. Seeing the Chicago skyline while I have my teeth cleaned is just worth hundreds of dollars every time I see the dentist.

Experiencia fantástica: Update: My dental hygienist Vanessa is as fun to talk to as any friend. And the new female dentist on staff is fantastic too. Hey, Disneyland calls itself "The Happiest Place on Earth," but when it comes to dentists' offices, it's definitely Stephens Dentistry that takes the crown. I always walk out of there with a big smile and feeling like I'm walking on a cloud. OK, here's what I said on a prior visit: It's a pleasure to go to Stephens Dentistry, even to have two fillings replaced and a cavity removed! Dr. Montoya is so gentle I didn't even feel the anesthetic go in. He follows up with a phone call the next day, and couldn't be kinder. It's like visiting a friend who happens to be extremely smart, competent and honest. I look forward to my next visit.

Update, Dr. Bob has retired and left the office in great hands. My visit today and the new staff is well up to and beyond the standards set over the years. The new staff has more than met my expectations. Vanessa has been great in keeping my teeth in great shape. Her preventative measures are what I like the most. Stephens Dentistry bent over backwards to make the procedure comfortable, distracting, and efficient. Dr. Montoya (with Anisa in a support role) did the job expertly with absolutely no pain and lots of reassurance. Not even a pinch of pain with the local numbing -- amazing! Experiencia fantástica: I am a new patient and had my first appointment this afternoon. My experience here was great. From start to finish the staff were kind, patient, and helpful. Nikki helped me book the appointment and was very welcoming when I got to the office. Juana was my hygienist and was personable and efficient, I enjoyed talking with her. The individual who checked me out was also very friendly and gave a "woohoo dance" as she described it. I can't recall her name but I appreciated her joyful temperament. Dr. Ma was my dentist and I thought she was exceptional. She patiently explained my treatment plan and associated costs, steps to the procedure, and checked in multiple times during to make sure I was ok. It was a routine procedure but I believe that small details like that add up. Lastly, I think the staff should be proud of themselves for the environment they've created and maintained. The pandemic has changed everything and most of my trips are to places filled with anxiety, impatience, and sometimes rudeness. That was not the case at all here today......your office was calm. Like....really calm. It was a very welcomed change of pace and dynamic. I will definitely be back.

Dr. Raibulet and his team have set a new standard for excellence in dental care. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient, making the check-in process a breeze. Dr. Raibulet himself is a true professional who takes the time to listen to his patients and address their concerns. He thoroughly explained the treatment plan and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. His expertise and attention to detail were evident throughout the entire procedure. My experience was truly five-star, and I look forward to continuing my dental care with such a reputable and caring professional.

Experiencia negativa: I was (and still very am) very upset with how I was treated by Stephen's Dentistry staff. For one, I did not consent to receiving a fluoride treatment. I was never asked nor informed of the costs associated with it. This was my first time visiting this dentist, and as in any healthcare setting, there is a huge power differential between the provider and the patient. A hygienist was already in the room once the dentist was done with his work, and the dentist simply said, "We are going to put fluoride on your teeth now" without telling me that it would not be covered by my insurance or anything of the sort (even though it is not a necessary treatment by any means!). Fast forward a few days when I get the bill and I am charged 80 dollars out of pocket. I call the office to dispute the charge and the receptionist basically gaslit me into believing that it was my fault because "I didn't stop the hygienist from putting it on my teeth or ask what the cost was." Totally against the whole premise of consent and what a provider should be informing their patients of. Additionally, prior to my appointment, I called to make sure that my insurance was accepted and within network. They assured me that it was but that the first visit would need to be paid out of pocket and that they would bill my insurance afterward. This was fine with me until I got the bill. I called back and apparently this was the only Stephen's Dentistry location to not be "in-network." I ended up paying much more than I should have because they were so unclear with me. I felt very taken advantage of by this dentistry and am unfortunately going to need to find a new one in the area. I was especially upset with how the various situations were handled upon me calling. I did not appreciate feeling like this was all my fault when it should be the job of the denist/office to inform their patients properly!

Also, I have had excellent dental hygienists and have admiration for the professional friendly office staff. Experiencia fantástica: Follow the service provider, not the company. I have been a loyal patient of Dr Marcos Montoya, Dr Rares Raibulet and Vanessa Dini. When they purchased Stephens Dentistry, I decided to follow them. Albeit a much longer drive, but it is well worth it. If you are looking for super smart dentists that also have a great bedside manner, this is the place to go. Don't let the address or parking deter you. It is super easy and the experience is well worth it.

Scheduling is easy and appointments are on time. I tend to be pretty anxious about dental work, but the fact that all the staff is consistently attentive, listens well and is customer-oriented helps put me at ease. Vanessa is a terrific dental hygienist. And most recently I had some restorative work done by one of the office's newer docs, Dr. Montoya. He's wonderful! He clearly loves his profession and is focused on doing the best job possible...and was equally focused on making sure I was as comfortable as possible. He explains things clearly, answers questions well, and followed up after procedures with a phone call to ask how I was doing. Dr. Montoya's an A+ in my book.

I travel a good distance to come here and it is worth every bit. The professional staff has always been friendly, attended to my needs, and through every transition as the team goes, they have always exceeded my expectations! Just went in for the normal 6 month checkup with the new team and they seem equally great. Pricing is fair being a private practice and they work well with my insurance. The premises are always clean and follow up is perfect whether it is for an appointment or for post-treatment check-in to see how everything is going. I can also phone and get hold of my dentist after-hours if need be. I highly recommend Stephen's Dentistry.

Everyone I've interacted with at Stephens over the years (many years now) has been very friendly, professional, and provides nothing but the best service. It's true that you pay top dollar, but they also make sure that you get every single dollar's worth out of it and more. When a night guard I received from them didn't work for me, they provided me with additional options with no further cost until the problem was solved. I seriously cannot recommend Stephens enough if you are in need of a new dentist!

I was pretty anxious about it, specifically the lidocaine shot. Dr. Ma was SO FAST and it didn’t hurt. The entire filling removal/replacement took like five minutes I think. I’m super impressed. Everyone in this office is top-notch.

During the replacement of two crowns, Dr. Stephens actively described what he was doing, engaging me and helping the time go quickly. Likewise with showing me the results of my exam and putting together a plan to address any areas of potential concern going forward. The followup from my appointments has also been excellent. They call to check on you the next day, and you experience a team approach truly focused on your well being as much as your dental care. I give them my highest recommendation. They’re absolutely excellent at what they do.

He explained everything he was doing as he worked, and he and the hygienist kept reassuring me that I was “doing a great job”. (They were actually the ones who did the great job.) The entire process was pain-free, and I was in and out with a new crown in just over two hours. STEPHENS DENTISTRY is the place to go for all your dental care—everything from routine cleaning and x-rays to state-of-the-art crowns that are completed in a single visit.

Certainly the dentists and hygienists are top notch, keeping current with newest dental innovations and pain management, as well as being intelligent but approachable, structured and efficient but friendly, and very compassionate. So I won’t go on about the folks who have to put their hands in our mouths. Rather, I want to applaud an oft overlooked crew at medical offices: the admin staff at Stephens. From finance to reception everyone is so exceptionally polite, kind, warm, and helpful. Too often, especially during these weary, frustrating winter-in-Pandemic days (daze?) we call an office, clinic, business, or store for assistance of one kind or another and are met by a fatigued voice who doesn’t even say the name of the place, let alone their own, or even offer a polite salutation. (IF an actual person answers!) When you call Stephens the staff ALWAYS answers with conviviality, saying you have, in fact, reached the dental office, telling you their name, and setting the tone right off: professional, ready to help, resourceful, polite, caring, and cheerful. It’s likely that, as they are human beings, the staff at Stephens isn’t *always* having a perfectly awesome day. However, if they aren’t, they don’t project that to their patients. This, and the fact of long-term staff retention, demonstrates a well-managed clinic with people who are glad to be there and will put patient care first; they clearly care about their work, and one another, and they pay that forward. Thank you, Stephens, for always making sure a real live person answers the phone, knows who I am, offers, “Good morning!” and happily assists me. If a person can be a fangirl to a dental practice, lol, I am one, and will always recommend Stephens to friends, family, and colleagues.

Experiencia fantástica: I have been going to Stephens Dentistry since moving to Evanston in 2007. My childhood fear of going to the dentist was put to ease by Dr. Jim. He listened to me and understood what he needed to do to ease my fears. Since his retirement I have had regular check ups with Dr. Bob who is an understanding as his brother. Recently, I had an issue with my jaw and bite and saw Dr. Ma. She listened to me when I explained my bite didn’t feel right and my jaw was sore. She asked if I was under any stress. I broke down in tears and said yes, 2021 had been a really hard. She was kind, caring, and compassionate and she came up with a plan to fix the problem. Over the years I have had several different hygienist for my twice yearly cleanings. I feel as though I’ve gotten to know them and I am comfortable with any of them scraping away the stains left on my teeth from my coffee and red wine habits. The receptionists are efficient, helpful, and friendly. I would not hesitate in recommending Stephens Dentistry to anyone in need of a new dentist.

Whether you just need a very competent dentist, or perhaps get anxiety going to the dentist, or maybe if you avoid going bc you are carrying shame about your dental health. Make an appointment here, you will not regret it. The ENTIRE staff is so incredibly kind, compassionate, patient, competent and non judge mental. They really put me at ease and took care of a situation that had bothered me for years. No other dentist was able to figure out what was wrong, and wanted to a lot of expensive work that "might" fix it, but Dr. Ma was able to figure it out and help me get it taken care of in a matter of days. I just can't even describe the level of compassion and kindness in this office. Linda felt like a friend when I was nervous, stressed out and in pain, even tho I was a new patient. I thought maybe I just went on a good day, but when I went the next time for a cleaning and exam, the care and service was again exceptional. I will be forever grateful and continue to seek dental care here as long as I am physically able to. I only wish I had found them sooner.

Even before the pandemic, they were scrupulous about making sure all were safe, with the staff wearing masks, great air filtration, etc. With the pandemic, they increased their efforts to make sure it was very safe for clients to be in the office. As for the dental care, it is the best. The dental hygienists are excellent at checking and cleaning teeth, in the most comfortable atmosphere. The dentists are fabulous. I'm impressed that the staff who welcome me when I enter the office always know my name and are very friendly. I actually enjoy my visits to this dentist office!

Experiencia fantástica: Best dentistry ever. Been going there for the last 20 years and they are the only dentistry I can lay back and put my full trust in them. I went to a few other dentists and I was shocked at what they did to my teeth without telling me. This dentistry communicates everything with you and never does anything without explaining it to you and getting your approval. Also, they use state of the art machinery and equipment are super nice people involved and make you feel like family, 6 out of 5 stars dentistry by far.

I honestly can’t say enough about Dr Bob and the entire staff in this dental practice! From beginning to end, I am treated like family, feel genuinely cared for and listened to and I find myself excited to come vs scared. I came here after having gone to another practice for a few years where I felt like the care was sub par but affordable and I had some good but more than one bad experience there. Without going into grave detail, the previous work I had was as terrible as I suspected and I needed to have it taken care of. Being self pay, I had gone to a chain and they went through dentists like we go through toothbrushes so I decided finding a dentist that was highly recommended because of quality of care and expertise was more important than cost. I searched and not only did I find incredible care, I also found care that far exceeded any cost. Enter Stephens Dentistry and Dr. Bob! Thank you for everything!! I truly can’t thank them enough!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I've been seeing Dr Ma and her team at Stephens for a couple of years now, and it'd be hard to overstate how impressed or appreciative I am for my experiences with them! I have fairly severe dental anxiety - when I first came here I think I'd been to a dentist twice in the previous decade (so as you can imagine, I had some work I needed to do...). As such I've been here quite a few times, and I'd say a big part of why I haven't dropped off the map and kept with the plan is everyone here goes miles beyond what you'd normally expect in terms of creating a comfortable, supportive, and fun environments, where I'm legitimately excited to see everyone here (even if I'm still nervous about the work that needs to happen). Also, I've always been a bit pain sensitive with my teeth, and Dr Ma is seriously MILES beyond anyone else I've ever seen in terms of making the process painless and her sensitivity to her patient's experience. I really cannot say this strongly enough, if you're looking for a dentist, you couldn't possibly do better than Dr Ma and the whole Stephens team. Everyone is just wonderful in every possible way.

Recently we were recommended to Stephen’s Dentistry by a friend and were able to book an appointment fairly quickly. All of their staff is exceptionally friendly and professional. They even hand wrote welcome notes after our first appointments!! Who does that? Our cleanings were thorough and easy and my recent fillings were so much quicker and painless than our former dentist. LOVE this practice and so happy to have found them.
