Fantastic experience: I was recommended this dentist office by my manager at work. She and I share many of the same concerns about going to the dentist, so she told me "why don't you try this place?" Well, I kept her advice at the back of my mind for a couple years...until I started to have a pretty awful pain at the way back of my mouth this past week. So I scheduled an appointment with Sunshine. They accommodated my request to get me in about a week earlier than my new patient appointment, due to the pain getting that much worse. I went in, they took x-rays (I have a horrid gag reflex, and they were super understanding and accommodating about that), did a very thorough examination of my mouth, and after that the dentist came in and talked to me. I can safely say I've never met one so pleasant before. Dr. Mertz is genuinely so kind and you can really tell she's so passionate about what she does. She speaks carefully, to make sure you're totally understanding of what was found in the exam and what needs to be done going forward. She sent me a referral to the oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction, and answered all the questions I had regarding the procedure. This will be my new dentist going forward!

Negative experience: While I appreciate that the staff are very nice and the facility is clean and well-maintained, I have several significant concerns regarding the clinic's practices. Firstly, despite having dental insurance, I have found the services to be overpriced because the provider is not in-network with any insurance carriers. Additionally, I am concerned about the frequency of X-rays, which feels excessive regarding radiation exposure. Furthermore, I am uncomfortable with the policy of keeping my card on file and processing charges without prior notification or authorization. Finally, the frequent calls to either move my appointments or suggest additional dental work have become quite disruptive.

From the moment you walk in Kaylens greets you with a smile. Morgan, the dental hygienist Greeted me with a warm smile and And did a great job with my cleaning. Finally, Dr Sarah Mertz Is the sweetest dentist in North Dakota! She exudes happiness and connects with her patients on a personal and professional level. I need to have some dental work done and she explains it in layman’s terminology. I highly recommend this office for dental care.

Negative experience: Rudest dentist . Very abrasive and rude. Left in tears. Told me they don't do root canals and refused to listen to any of my concerns. Don't go here.

Fantastic experience: I went to my regular cleaning and was ready to have an appointment for a crown when I was told I needed to pay a deposit for the appointment. The deposit was over $1000. dollars I found this to be very insulting as I’ve always paid for my services in full at the time of treatment. If I trust you enough to have you treat me , I expect you to trust me to show up and pay for your services. I feel I can not trust a practice that demands a deposit for an appointment that is a month or more out. I felt the care was excellent but this policy has caused me to find a new provider.

Fantastic experience: I have severe dental anxiety and had avoided the dentist like the plague. I did lots of research and Sunshine offered online appointment requests, emergency appointments and easy communication for someone like me. The first time I came to Sunshine Dental, was because of an emergency root canal. They got me in quickly as a new patient, put me on antibiotics and then performed a root canal as soon as the infection went away. I then avoided returning to the dentist because of my anxiety. Almost a year later, I made a new appointment because I could no longer tolerate the discomfort from avoiding the dentist. I required an extensive amount of work, I knew I needed it. I am incredibly grateful for how quickly Dr. Mertz and her staff were able to get me in. They scheduled me ahead of time for all of my appointments to help facilitate the process for me, it was so helpful. Their financing options were also great to see, I found them helpful and have mentioned these options to friends. I appreciated seeing Ayla during every visit, she offered consistency and calmness for someone like me. So incredibly kind! Dr. Mertz is personable and kind, she never made me feel bad. My teeth feel so much better! I am so grateful for the experience and support. Thanks Sunshine! ☀️ I highly recommend Sunshine to anyone who experiences dental anxiety or has teeth. ✨

Negative experience: I went into this dentist 4 weeks ago for a checkup. They did some tapping inspection on my teeth that has never been done at any other dentist I have ever been to. Well the next day a chip of my tooth fell out. One I had an issue with. Well I set up an appointment to go back to have a different tooth fixed. Well the one they tapped on that broke was causing some discomfort so I asked if we can work on it instead. The dentist come in & said nope it a no go. Have to pull it she says & do implants. I said no not pulling out so she say well we can root canal & recrown then. I said thought you said had to pull now you can save it?? Something sounds fishy here. So I ask for the price before approving xrays & they come in with over $4900 for a root canal & crown so she says think about for a few min then comes back in & say ok let's do it because I need the tooth to chew on that side because I don't or can't afford implants. Then out of no where the dentist tells me to my face I am wasting her time. Listen here I just agreed to spend $4900+ on dental work & you have the nerve to tell a patient that they are wasting your time. That by far in not customer service or how a Dr. Should ever treat his/her patient. I chose you as a dentist for work to be done, but you have the guts to tell me that I am wasting your time trying to figure out in my head how I am going to pay for a job for dental work to have your office do. You are outrageous. You are a rude dentist & I hope everyone see's my review before deciding to attend your facility. Maybe next time you can choke on your words & not say to a patient that they are wasting you time. I am a paying patient & this is how you want to treat a patient. I have worked with customers in the service department for 25+ years. Never once have I ever treated a customer in the way you treated me today. If I ever would I would personally fire myself as an employee because you never know how a person lives, how much they struggle with bills or how to pay for anything. I am a compassionate person but I will never ever tell anyone they are wasting my time. I am there to help people not just take their money!!!

Negative experience: The doctor and staff were nice but pricing was ridiculous. They charged over $100 to look in my 1.5 years olds mouth for not even 30 seconds and say “oh he has some teeth coming in.” That’s all that was done, as I refused fluoride. Half the bill was paid up front before I left, and the other half was drafted off of my debit card WITHOUT MY PERMISSION after insurance said they wouldn’t pay. I do not recommend, nor do I trust any company that takes unauthorized payments. I’ll find a new dentist for my son.

Positive experience: Great location, knowledgeable Dr. and staff but almost double the price compared to other dental offices I’ve been to in Bismarck. Because of this, unfortunately our family will go back to our original dentist, despite the location being farther away for us. Other than price, I don’t have anything bad to say about this place. I wish I would have asked price beforehand because I would never have gone there.

Fantastic experience: I drove 3.5 hours to get a few teeth pulled. I have a HUGE fear of dentist and Nicole and the dentist were a big help and very supportive with me. I'm still afraid of my next appointment but I'm sure to try and go back!

Fantastic experience: They were able to accommodate me at the last minute due to having some tooth sensitivity (hurt and couldn’t chew on that side). I required two crown replacements with were done in under two hours. The staff and dentist are very friendly.

Negative experience: Staff was friendly, cleaning was great! Now for the bad, I had some fillings done and a few months after one tooth that was filled broke and another the filling came completely out! They told me I needed to HAVE SIX more fillings done on my right side! I ended up going to a different dentist. Needless to say after having two other dentists do cleanings, exams and x-rays, turns out I didn’t need any fillings… hmm either this place scams people or the dentist is just that incompetent. The work I did have done there cost around $600 after insurance which really sucks as a simple filling from sunshine turned in to a crown and also had to get the other one they filled redone as well. My wife also had two small fillings that were done over a year ago and can’t chew on the side they filled. It makes me wonder if I even needed any fillings to begin with, either way all work done there has been redone with zero problems other than it sucks paying for someone else’s shotty work.This is the first time I’ve ever left a negative review for a business, but there are far better options in the Bis/man area… IMO Mertz shouldn’t have a license…

Fantastic experience: This was the best dental experience I’ve ever had. I genuinely felt more like I was in a spa than at the dentist. My entire life I’ve had extreme dental anxiety resulting in me not getting a cleaning bin years. With the atmosphere not feeling like your typical dental office, it didn’t put me in that immediate state of panic. The lilac color scheme and the modern decor makes it known that the owner genuinely cares about what they do and want to be set apart from other dental offices to make your experience special. Everybody who I interacted with, from the receptionist to the dentist and everybody in between, was extremely kind and understanding and made sure to explain everything every step of the way. They do a great job at being transparent about what you need and what you don’t, and don’t push you to incur extra cost if it isn’t necessary (which is really awesome). I’ve already recommended this dental office to all of my family and friends, and will continue to come here as long as I live in North Dakota.

Negative experience: I have a lot of dental work I need done and know it will cost a lot. That being said, I postponed my appointment several times due to the innability to pay for all the procedures they wanted to do in the first appointment, I was quoted almost 3k. I finally committed to an appointment in December and was very clear that I needed to stay within the restraints of my insurance. They removed a couple things from the list but did not use my insurance properly and left me with a bill over $2000. They did not discuss the bill with me after making the changes and thats probably my fault. When I reached out after, they claimed they used my insurance correctly so I inquired with another dentist and brought him all of my paperwork. What they SHOULD have done would have cost me less that $100. On top of the bill, both teeth they worked on now have sensitivity and cause pain, but I refused to go back there to try and fix it. I'd rather pay another dentist. I will never go back, I was screwed over and extremely taken of advantge of. I'd give zero stars if I could.

I’ve had a TERRIBLE dental experience that made me avoid the dentist for years, and Sunshine Family Dentistry were all so patient and kind with me, and I never once felt judged.

Fantastic experience: Wow! I never felt so comfortable at the dentist. Everyone there makes you feel so at ease. I needed to find a new dentist as I was in a lot of pain and my previous dentist was not very helpful. I sure came to the right place. Dr. Mertz is so knowledgeable, she found the problem right away. After looking at the x-rays she told me that I would have to see an oral surgeon and an appointment was set up for me. I also have an appointment with Dr. Mertz for more work that I need done. If you’re looking for a dentist I highly recommend Dr. Mertz.

Comfort and patient needs are held to an extremely high standard from being greeted upon entering to heated massage chairs, music or Netflix for your liesure while being treated. My two little wild ones were with me and they were incredibly understanding and helped keep them entertained while we got the best treatment ever! I highly recommend going here for any dental needs. Also to add, Dr. Mertz took her time and listened to everything I had to say and helped me with all of my questions and needs. She’s extremely thorough and knowledgeable. Fantastic experience: Everyone was patient and kind, and went above and beyond to be at my son's level.

Negative experience: I truly do not like giving reviews, "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all". BUT, since the lack of care I got, has costed me over $4,000.00, out of pocket, I think I'll leave a review. Went in for a crown. When the crown came in it was massive. They filed and filed and filed. They did finally get it to fit or so I thought. When I got home, and started chewing, I realized it was still too high. I called in the next a.m., to see if I could come in and get it ground down more. This has happened at my former dentist (who has now retired), and it's never been an issue. Sunshine said there was nothing more they could do. SO, needless to say, within 7-10 days, the bottom 2 teeth, 1 crown with a root canal and one natural tooth had broke. SO, now 2 teeth have had to be pulled (the bottoms because of this ill fitting crown placed by Sunrise, that broke). Looking at 1-2 implants. I haven't decided yet. Implants do run about $3500.00 a piece. I will add that I do have weak teeth, and have been seeing the same dentist for 30+ years. I was searching for a new dentist at the time of my visit with Sunshine. This is NOT the place for me. However, the assistants are SO pleasant!! So kudos to them.

Fantastic experience: For someone Like me that is absolutely terrified!!!!(due to bad experience of dentist 10 years ago) of the dentist and would rather die from their tooth (seriously would) infection than get it treated because they are so scared of the dentist I must say I am absolutely stunned,very impressed and amazed with the treatment and service of sunshine Family dentistry. Not an ounce of pain for a procedure I thought I would not live through. Dr Sarah Mertz (and her amazing crew) is the only person and dentist that is allowed to work or touch my teeth for the rest of my life. I would travel oceans for such awesome treatment. The phobia is fading slowly. Thank you to you and your team. You guys are legends!!!

Fantastic experience: I was complimented on my shades whilst leaving work today. I just said, "Thanks". I should have told them how I got them. But, I didn't. So, I'm telling you now. Unlike other sunglass purveyors, this one is not located in a mall. This is a boutique; you have to have an appointment to get in. Once you do get in, you are greeted very warmly, and soon whisked away to your own private sunglass fitting room. They put your sunglasses on you, and then it gets weird. They put stuff in your mouth. There was a vacuum, kinda like a Roomba, but hook shaped, and in your mouth. I'm pretty sure they irradiated my head for no reason other than for this gal(let's call her Dr. Mertz) to come in and tell me that my teeth are okay. I'M HERE FOR THE SUNGLASSES, LADY! They did give me a very tooth-oriented gift bag on the way out the door. 10/10.

Negative experience: Not recommended. I had an appt at 8:40 they didn’t got me in until 5 past nine. 10 am and still sitting in the dentist chair. Few things they had done the girl seem to had issues with what she was doing and the instruments she was using SMELL SOO BAD. Stops up and decided to leave. Wasted my morning of work being there. They said first time patients take 90min appts though they didn’t got me in until 5 past nine. Not good. Don’t recommend.

Fantastic experience: Super friendly, fast, gentle. Communicated everything prior to procedure, including a breakdown of the cost. I called in the morning during a major snowstorm because of an infected tooth. They fit my daughter in that morning. We'll be going back.
