Kankakee Valley Oral Maxillofacial Surgery

Fantastic experience: Had a number of extractions a few years ago, going in for more now. Pain-free experience. Another Dentist wouldn't even give me a mild painkiller and when I went to Dr. Powell, he indicated that the dentist I was seeing at the time had given me the WRONG antibiotic in the first place (which was the direct cause of that pain that he wanted to lecture me for seeking relief from). So Powell gave me a script for a limited dose painkiller + the RIGHT antibiotics. The pain was gone within a day... That other dentist is retired now and that's probably for the best. But I still remember that experience because tooth pain is right near the top of everybody's "nope" list. But Powell saved the day — so 5 stars is cheerfully given!

I had an impacted wisdom tooth that broke my molar and needed an extraction asap. This office, from the very first phone call, were kind and extremely pleasant to talk to. They were able to see me within a week and the dr was amazing! He was funny, kind, and patient. He took notice how anxious I was and he wasn’t frustrated or in a hurry at all, he spoke kind and took his time with me. On top of it all, I didn’t feel pain from the extraction at all! Best experience in a dental office ever.

Fantastic experience: Dr.Powell is very compassionate and kind. He’s been our family’s oral surgeon since 2002. He is very knowledgeable about anatomy and physiology. He numbed my extremely painful trigeminal nerve pain. He knows physical therapy exercises for lockjaw and was very helpful with that. His office once helped our son in an emergency when he tripped over a toy and his braces went under his upper gum line. He always makes sure his patient’s are numb before he starts any work on them. We couldn’t ask for a better oral surgeon and he has a good sense of humor too. We will always be thankful for the care we received from their office.

Fantastic experience: This dentist pulled two teeth in about 20 minutes. No pain (short needle sticks). Not exaggerating. After pain killer wore off just sore for a couple days. Staff is very nice. Office treated me nicely and they were on time. Excellent dental surgery performed with very little discomfort (needles only).

Fantastic experience: For an older person who's had many not so great dental experiences, I was really dreading having another extraction and knowing that it was infected. The staff on the phone was wonderful detailing all that would happen, all the staff for greeting, during the procedure etc. were professional and comforting. Dr. Hoffman has a knack for putting you at ease and entertaining you at the same time. My anxieties dropped considerably after the first 5 minutes. I am healing well and very grateful!

Positive experience: The staff and environment were very friendly! Dr Powell was great. They put me to sleep and I woke up what felt like 30 seconds later lol. Very minimal swelling and healed very nicely. However…. I’m not usually someone who complains but as far as the billing side, I am highly dissatisfied. I was on the phone with them multiple times in the months leading up to my surgery to make sure all dues were taken care of prior to surgery so I wasn’t settled with a large bill I wasn’t expecting. A week before surgery I was told that everything went through and I only owed $425 out of pocket day of (April) , which I paid. As months passed I was receiving statements saying I owed over $1800 and that my insurance only covered a very small portion. When I reached out to my insurance they stated they never got an invoice and had no idea what I was talking about. (Which I resolved shortly after). Now (August) I finally had to call for the last time because they were still trying to charge me another fee of over $500 and once I called somehow there was a “mistake” and I owed nothing. This could have been a huge misunderstanding or they could have thought I was a young girl who wouldn’t pay attention. Who knows. Just be mindful if you go here :) The in house staff are the only ones that made this a 3 star instead of a 1.

Fantastic experience: From the office staff to the ladies that work with Dr. Powell everyone was so nice and made me feel very comfortable. I was a nervous wreck. Dr. Powell assured me everything was going to be fine, he was right. Made an appointment on Tuesday morning and got in 2 days later from a cancellation. So happy that it's all behind me. If you're nervous and hurting you're going to feel better with Dr. Powell and staff.

Positive experience: Was a great experience for sure. My appointment was at 10 A.M. so I showed up at 9:30. Went over some papper work to get signed and just as I sat back down they call me back. Fantastic experience: Dr Powell and his staff were caring and compassionate. They listened to me and were responsive to my concerns which made me feel confident in their skills. My tooth extraction was quick and there was little trauma. The after care instructions were good and I am recovering nicely. I would not hesitate to use their services if needed in the future.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Powell, and all of his assistants, were wonderful. Dr. Powell has a great sense of humor and he had me laughing out loud more than just a few times. Probably more important, he was thorough and careful with my personal infirmities, including the effects of a recent surgery to repair a broken neck. He adapted his technique to avoid putting too much pressure on the 18 screws holding my neck together. His assistants were knowledgeable and attentive, checking frequently to make sure I was ok. It was a great dental experience for me. I'm confident your experience would be surprisingly better than your expectations.
