Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh

Fantastic experience: Office felt a little small/cramped, but that's my only complaint! I'm thankful to have found a practice that could get us in within a month-- lots of other practices were booked out 3+ months. The staff knows how to work with kiddos-- they were efficient, kind, and friendly. I brought it my three kiddos for routine cleanings and we were in and out in less than an hour. We will be returning patients for sure!

Fantastic experience: We have a large family of 9 children so dentists and doctors appointments are a chore. To have a place that offers such fantastic services and can handle all of our children in a couple hours, instead of all day, is phenomenal. We recommend them because they are kind, do fantastic work, and are very understanding.

Fantastic experience: Angels. My 8 year old with autism had a bad experience at a different dentist office I brought her here and the first visit she let them do more then any other place. They were patient and talked her with kindness. I could tell she felt more at ease. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: I would never recommend this place to anyone. As a special needs mother whenever I read that the dentist specializes in "special needs care" on the website I would have thought it to be true. After an emergency visit with my child in pain unable to eat or drink I go in to the most rude and accommodating staff. After my child basically getting yelled at by the staff was incorporative (rightfully so) after the behaviors that they exhibited to him he was send out the door no X-rays, no treatment all to say that after the exam all his teeth looked fine and I need to go to his PCP because he might have an ear infection. I knew something was off even after advocating for him so i immediately took him to dentistry for kids in beaver. To find the best staff they done x rays and an actual exam to find he had a very large ulcer that was noticeably visible that this facility overlooked.

Fantastic experience: My kids have been patients for around 15 years now. We’ve had nothing but great experiences. The whole staff is incredibly kind and attentive. They were especially awesome with my kids when they were little and a bit fearful of the dentist. Now as teens they aren’t afraid of going to the dentist. I definitely attribute that to the kindness and care they received as little ones and continue to receive to this day.

They also explained to my son why it’s important to take care of his teeth. I love that Dr. Shaw, Dr.Pollick and Dr.Pierce are all so supportive.

Fantastic experience: T H E best office for children! My kids started out going to them as toddlers and now my granddaughter is going. The doctors and staff are amazing, caring and excellent with communication. I always get a “real person” when calling and if I do have to leave a message, I am promptly receiving a return call.

Fantastic experience: Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh is absolutely wonderful. We have been coming here for 10+ years, and have loved everything about it. Dr. Shaw and Dr. Pollick are great with the kiddos, even when they are here for a filling. Dr. Pearce has adjusted all 3 of our daughters' smiles, and they are prettier, and straighter than ever. Having a dentist AND an orthodontist in the same practice has been so convenient! The staff is great, the locations are great, and my daughters think it is great as well. I highly recommend Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh!!

Negative experience: Took my son to this office to have him looked at for some fillings. He is 4 y/o and doesn't feel real comfortable with other people. The Dr suggested we "hold him down" after my son didn't want to get in the chair. Then they refused to take X-rays without him being sedated and would not do the procedure without him being sedated. I'm talking knocked out sedated not laughing gas. The anaesthesiologist wanted paid in full before scheduling the appointment. The whole process felt very uncomfortable and inappropriate for child health care and also very money oriented. Will not be going back or suggesting anyone ever goes here.

Fantastic experience: We absolutely love Dr. Shaw! He is so caring and truly does his best to make sure the kiddos are comfortable and get the best care! All of the ladies are also wonderful. No where else I would rather take my kids!

Negative experience: I have been trying to talk to billing for over 6 months. They have someone call and then refuse to give me their position and name and then tell me the office manager is required to talk to me about a billing question. They refuse to let me talk to billing about the insurance charges and payments. They want to force a conversation to their office manager Megan. She doesn’t understand or have any idea on what is going on with the insurance billing and can’t explain why what my insurance has as payments doesn’t match what they have as payments and why the dates are different. This is no longer a simple billing and insurance problem, but is an ownership problem and management problem. They are unable to send a whole bill and keep sending partial bills and statements and can’t explain why they have not charged or processed previous payments. They can’t provide the documentation and information that I am requesting. They have given my personal information to people who are not me or my spouse and that person has emailed it over to us letting us know that they have sent them our personal information. Their staff was really nice when we were starting, but once we explained how the insurance had to be processed and that they were charging us for things that they were not allowed to. We had to have the insurance on the call to also explain that they are incorrect and were committing fraud for them to correct the inaccuracy and not double bill us. They have now become rude, belligerent and have refused to let me try and get everything resolved with the person that actually knows what is going on. They refuse to give out the owners information or have their owner call back because they don’t deal with billing, but this isn’t about that, but is all about management and customer service and having the right people be able to talk the issue and not someone who has no idea what is going on. This is very frustrating and I don’t wish for anyone to have to deal with them. If you have a choice then choose someone who can understand, talk and explain and be willing to get into the explanations when payments don’t match and office staff have an issue.

Fantastic experience: I really like this office & the staff for my two small children. Both my kids needed several cavities filled. We were able to get them all done in the office rather than sedation which is what I preferred. The dentists are very friendly and great at keeping my kids relaxed. Neither of them are scared of the dentist even after having fillings. Truly a win

My kids are very shy and scared of anything new, but they have grown to feel safe and comfortable here. The hygienists make things fun and easy. The staff are patient, kind, and helpful. I can't saw enough good things about Dr. Shaw and Dr. Pollick. They are so good with the kids, and I trust their recommendations. I would recommend this office to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Ryan, Dr Ashley, and all of the staff are very friendly and accomodating to the children. My daughter was only 2 for her first appointment and she was not a happy camper, but they did their best to make her comfortable and were very patient. The sticker and prize should be enough to lure her back next time! Best dentist around for children by far.

Fantastic experience: Pediatric Dentistry of Pittsburgh is nothing short of amazing. From the convenient locations, supportive/patient staff and quality of work is outstanding. I have been bringing my daughters to the natrona heights location for quite a few years. They have visited with mostly all doctors and they are all so kind and gentle. The sedation service is very smooth, and I was supported as a mom who was nervous at first. Everything was explained and they showed such compassion. They do what is necessary to handle cavities in kids. They always explain exactly what they are doing. We have also experienced braces currently. Dr Shaw called me personally, discussed a plan, we set up appointments for step by step transition. I feel my daughter is so well taken care of. I have referred many friends, family members. I am also transferring my 3 step children to this location. I feel very proud my children go here. Thank you for being so great to my kids. I wish I went here as a kid. Would have changed my whole dental expierence growing up.

Fantastic experience: I have been taking both my children to this office for 18 years. My son started seeing the dentist that was here prior to Dr. Shaw until he bought the practice and let’s just say both my kids really enjoy having him as their dentist. My daughter is the only one to see him now due to my son’s age but it’s funny that my son is 20 and still wishes he could see Dr. Shaw! He is wonderful and just is a natural with children as well as his dental hygienists/assistants. My daughter used to get extreme anxiety before going but that no longer happens. Everyone at the office makes going to the dentist a fun experience. Now she wants to go to get her prize at the end of her visit! Im not one to praise a business unless they go above and beyond my expectations as that rarely happens these days but I can say Pittsburgh Pediatric Dentistry ALWAYS exceeds my child and mine hands down! I will never take her anywhere else. I recommend this office to anyone that has children afraid of the dentist. This will make your children as well as the parents trip to the dentist so much easier! Thank you to Dr. Shaw and staff for ALL you do day in and out.

Fantastic experience: It’s clear every staff member wants the dentist to be a fun experience for kids. I have a 2 and 3 year old which is tricky, but they both left their first dentist appt happy and excited about their prizes. When I originally called to schedule their appts, the staff member I spoke with answered all of my questions and went above and beyond with reassuring me of the process of how they treat young children like mine. Great experience all around.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Ashley and Dr. Shaw are the friendliest most professional Dentists who really care about their kids. They have the nicest staff too! My kids love going to the Dentist, esp when they get their prizes after the visit. They are able to see all four of my kids, cleanings, X-rays and follow ups in around 30 minutes, so easy and painless.

Fantastic experience: Doctor is so nice, caring and makes sure everything needs done when they doing a procedure instead of doing multiple appointments and procedures. Anesthesiologist is nice, caring and comfortable. He explains everything so well and takes great care of our kid. Nurses are so nice and explain everything so good. Great place to take your kids

In and out of the office quickly and are rarely running behind. Just something as simple and thoughtful as letting kids wear sunglasses while in the chair goes such a long way; really building positive dentist experience. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: My 3 year old daughter has been to this dentistry twice now and we have had a wonderful experience both times. My daughter injured her teeth and had never been to a dentist before. When I called to make the initial appointment I was happy they were able to get her in promptly. When we arrived, it was clear the office is dedicated to making the dentist fun for kids. I was able to hold my daughter on my lap during the exam and they gave her stickers and little prizes throughout the visit to make her feel like it was a great time. The dentist was extremely patient, caring, and thorough. Every employee I encountered during the visit was kind and sweet to my daughter. After the first visit, my daughter expressed that the dentist was fun and she was excited to go back. This dentist is out of my way and a bit of a drive, but I have encouraged all of my local friends and family with young children that this is the best dentist in the Pittsburgh area!

Negative experience: I have been bothered about this for about a year now. We have since moved to a new dentist but wanted to put this on here. They do not allow parents to accompany their children even for simple things like a teeth cleaning. They asked that I send my 3 year old back by herself and they would "get me if there was a problem ". There are no windows between the waiting room and where the kids are getting their teeth cleaned. I insisted that three was too young to go alone and they said it was too hard to work around me if I was back there. Doesn't make sense for a pediatric dentist to operate like this. There should be an option for young children- 2 and 3 is now the recommended age to see a dentist- to be with a parent. They should also have windows if they are asking parents not to go back with older kids. We left. I felt so uncomfortable with the set up that I think other parents should know that no matter the age or reason for visit parents won't be allowed to accompany their child (or see them).

Fantastic experience: Called us back on a Sunday afternoon for a dental emergency and we’re not even patients.

Negative experience: They would not allow me to go back with my son for his procedure. He was not getting IV sedation so there’s no reason I couldn’t be with him. He was terrified and they said well if he can’t go by himself now then maybe you should do IV sedation. Ummm absolutely not. They weren’t even giving him a chance to have it done because they won’t allow his parent to go back and the solution was a more invasive approach. We left and will find an office that allows parents to be with their child.
