Fantastic experience: 25 years ago, my family dentist retired and I needed to look for a new one, which I did by using the yellow pages in the phone book. I came across an advertisement for Dr. James Kalina and his picture. I chose him because of that picture alone. No Internet. No Google. No Reviews. For 25 years Dr. Kalina and his staff have been there for me and treated me like family. For 25 years I have had the same Dental Hygienist. I hope to have her for 25 more. I know there are a lot of good dentists in the Mankato area, but I also know that I picked one of the best. They are family!

This, I attribute to there comfortable chair and setting but also to my hygienist Mai Yia. I wouldn’t normally say dental work is particularly soothing but you can tell when you are in good hands. They are all very good at what they do.

Fantastic experience: Kalina Dental has provided my dental care for nearly 20 years. I'm fortunate enough to not have any major issues with my dental care, however my 7-year-old has had a cavity and needed a crown for an underdeveloped molar. Staff have been nothing but patient and understanding with a 7-year-old's fear and restlessness with dental procedures. This care has prevented trauma and a fear about dental care for both mom and child!

Negative experience: I called to reschedule an appointment because I couldn’t leave work due to a no call no show, I rescheduled it for 3. But asked if they could do 3:10. The woman on the phone reassured me as long as I’m not more than 15 minutes late that I shouldn’t get taken off the schedule. So I get off work, brush my teeth and floss, and show up in the lobby at 3:11. And the same woman named Tristian who told me I’d be fine as long I don’t show up later than 3:15 walks to the back to speak with the hygienist and then tells me she cant fit me in and turns me away even though I explicitly told them I’d be running slightly late coming from work. I would have never wasted my time and gas and even came in if staff wasn’t reassuring me to still come as long as I’m not 15 mins late WHICH I WASN’T. when I called to reschedule my cleaning, they told me that I was late too many times and that I would now be forced to do same-day scheduling and would not be allowed to make an appointment off two weeks in the future that I know I would be available for so now they aren’t even allowing me to work going into the dentist around my busy nursing school schedule and my job. They were extremely rude over the phone. They interrupted me every chance they got, and they ignored all of my questions. I ended up having to ask the same question three or four times before she finally listened enough to answer it. incredibly unprofessional, and I hope the conversation was recorded. I have never had to jump through this many hoops to just get someone to clean my teeth. Tired of it. I’ll get one last cleanup then I will be changing dentists this year. My advice If you are looking to get with a new dentist is to just avoid this place altogether. And I would love to contact the owner directly who replied, but I see you me provided me no way to contact you in your reply to my review. so I assume your reply to my review was to make it appear as though you cared and resolved actively this issue. But if you actually wanted to solve the issue, you would provide contact information. All I get is calling Kalina dental again today and having the same problem. As things are right now, I have no way of contacting you to get this sorted out. i’ve called almost every day for 2-3 weeks looking for cancellations because apparently I’m just permanently banned from scheduling an appointment in advance anymore after rescheduling an appointment last minute and being late for my next appointment. I have an appointment on April 8th with River Valley dental. I will most likely be switching permanently as their staff aren’t rude over the phone and the hygenists there don’t remove you from the schedule for being 5 minutes late in the winter and then turn you away just so they can sit there and have an hour break cuz they lazy. My girlfriend wants to go to the same dentist as me so she decided shes switching to river valley dental as well. Theres no point in us going to different places. And now my parents troy and tara will be switching too just solely because of how rude the conversation with Tristian was that I recorded. You’ve lost four regular patients now all because your staff are having a power trip and think they can ban patients for being late or not showing up 2-3 times. I understand the frustration with patients not showing up to appointments, but in the particular scenario we are discussing I called 20 minutes before my first appointment and let them know that I can’t clock out at work and I won’t be able to come to the appointment because of a no call no show completely out of my control. And then I told them I wouldn’t be able to make it to the appointment at 3 o’clock sharp and it would be about 310 and they told me that would be fine for my 3 o’clock appointment and then when I got there at 3:11 they claimed I was late. Can’t re-schedule even now cuz I’m banned from scheduling.I got zero warning or notice hey next time you’re late you can’t schedule.Nothing I now have an appointment elsewhere as I’ve been trying to get this figured out for over a month.
