Fantastic experience: My family's dentist stopped taking our insurance so we were looking for a new one. From checking in to checking out everyone was very nice. The dental hygienist and the dentist were knowledgeable and they explained many things to me. I recommended this office to both of my daughters and my husband. They will be making an appointment!

Fantastic experience: I LOVE Cortland Dental! This is my 3rd visit and I've had the pleasure of meeting all 3 of the dentists. All the dental assistants are wonderful too. I use to dread other dentists and stopped going for over a decade until I found Cortland Dental now I visit every 6 months.

Fantastic experience: Dr David Harrnet is an artist. Filled a cavity with great care and minor discomfort, and I mean no pain and without numbing my whole head and face for hours. Thanks you and your staff for a good experience.

Negative experience: Please also look up reviews under Ashley Harnet-Smegal and also Dr. David Harnet to see a true look at this provider and their work. Dental work completed is not done well/correct- needing to be done multiple times- charging /billing insurance for each- I have notified Cigna of these issues. One of the dentists here has had to repair my bottom retainer 3 times in the last couple of years- mind you the original retainer was fine/remained in place for over 20 years when done the right way through Dr. Rohrabaugh's office- which is where I will be returning moving forward. It will be well worth it to pay out of pocket for care moving forward, from a qualified provider. Staff here overall is OK, however the older woman at checkout is always rude and extremely unpleasant- perhaps she is married to one of the dentists and that is how she gets away with such behavior. Will not miss this place one bit.

Fantastic experience: I had a broken front tooth that had been way overdue to be fixed and I kept pushing it off per my last dentist was a heavy handed one! I was nervous at first but Dr. Smegal was so patient and kind and genuine! Fantastic job and beautiful office as well! Friendly staff too! I will be staying here from now on!!

Fantastic experience: I used to have "Dentist Phobia." Hated everything about going for cleanings, fillings, etc. Then I went to see Dr. Harnett and he is so gentle and easy to trust. I've seen all the Dentist in the practice and they are all amazing. I don't throw-up before injections anymore! I highly recommend this dental practice. They are amazing. My husband and i have been patients for 5 years.

Negative experience: Shaved my K9 down. I went to get a tooth fixed last week, which she did a fantastic job at making it look seamless and like it never happened. I happened to notice though my K9 was smaller looking and less sharp while looking in the mirror. I remembered she shaved a tooth down, thought it was nothing. She shaved a good bit of my K9 down and I’m honestly heartbroken. I loved how sharp they looked. Now I can’t stop looking at it. What was the point in shaving my tooth if it wasn’t causing me any issues?? It was one of the new girls I believe. Or newer. I’ve been going to this dentist for about 10-11 years. They have been overbooked, and seem to be very busy nowadays and I think it’s making their team not how they used to be.

Negative experience: I took my mother here recently. Her dentures are 12 years old. They're missing 2 teeth in the uppers .She used to live in Cortland, so she had them originally designed at Cortlanddentaltechnologies. At that time, Dr Ashley Smegal was very kind, courteous and helpful. She made sure mom got the dentures she wanted and that her insurance covered them. We figured this would be the best place to go since she originally had them made there. We made the appointment. My mom is in a wheelchair and on oxygen. There's a lot of steps that need to be taken to get her to her appointments. Not to mention, she now lives in Niles and we have to make the trip out there. We were under the impression they were going to start the process of fitting her for new dentures. We get there and I have to get her into the building via wheelchair. They bring us back and we wait for about 15 minutes. Dr. Smegal finally comes back, takes one look at her old dentures and says she'll just go ahead and replace the teeth in the uppers. We felt dismissed and like we were being given the bums rush. It's like she took one look at my mom, saw a sick old lady in a wheelchair and decided doing the work wasn't worth her time. I could be wrong but that's how my mom felt. If I would have known that's all she was going to do. I would have brought mom's dentures in myself. Saved mom the trip of having to get in and out of my car and her wheelchair. They said they would call us the next day when the dentures were ready. Meaning I had to drive all the way back to Cortland to get them. Thankfully didn't have to take my mom this time. I bring them to my mom. Here the Dr only replaced the one front tooth and just put acrylic where the molar is supposed to go. If mom isn't able to chew her food properly, she becomes a choking risk. I called to complain. I talk to the stupid receptionist. He told me if I wanted something different done, that we would have to make another appointment. I was mad. I'm looking for a new dentist. Dr Smegal didn't offer us any other options. She treated it as if this was the only option. Like she didn't want to bother or felt it wasn't worth her time to make new ones for her.

Fantastic experience: We had a very nice experience today with our dental hygienist. Super place to go. Pleasant, clean and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: Today I saw Dr. Smegal for the first time with a dental issue. She was very interested in my problem and fixed it on the first visit. I thought it was just going to be a consultation but it was way more than that. I am seriously thinking of changing dentists. Everyone I came in contact with, from the receptionist to the dentist, was very friendly.

Negative experience: Got a second opinion due to severe tooth pain after a filling that likely should’ve been a root canal according to the second opinion. The filling wasn’t even fully attached to the tooth towards the bottom. The tooth needed to be removed as there wasn’t enough healthy tooth left to do a root canal and now I need an implant to avoid bone loss.

The entire office is very sweet, and considerate. Billing goes above and beyond to get for you the maximum benefits you are entitled to from your insurance! I strongly strongly STRONGLY recommend Dr Bowen for your dental needs.

Negative experience: I’m currently at St Joe’s ER because I was REFUSED antibiotics by Smegal. I went in on the 25th with severe gum pain and pain under one of my molars. I could tell there was an infection causing my gums to swell up to the top of my molars. Smegal played around in my mouth for about 5 minutes and dismissed me. No xrays, no antibiotics. I begged for antibiotics but she told me it wasn’t infected and is just a canker sore. I could not believe what I was hearing and continued to plead for antibiotics but she absolutely REFUSED and said “no”. I have woken up in the middle of the night in pain the past 3 nights and there is currently a bump growing in size that has started slowly releasing a brownish yellow fluid with pain shooting into my right ear and into my jaw. THIS IS NOT A CANKER SORE! It’s so heartbreaking that a dentist could be so careless, especially when these infections can go straight to your heart. I dont know what to do because I paid $75 of money I do not have to be brushed off, disregarded and dismissed and my mouth keeps getting worse. I know it’s an infection. I wouldn’t wish this woman on anyone I love or care about. I NEVER complain but after my horrible experience I went over to the receptionist to see if something could be done and let her know how displeased I was. I’m just so upset. The dental hygienist was amazing, I didn’t catch her name but she was a lovely person and so was the receptionist. I just would never trust Smegal with anyone I care about or love.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr. Smegal's since 2016. I have nothing but the best to things to say about this Dentist and the staff that work there. Highly professional atmosphere, extremely hygienic, warm greeting when you arrive until you leave. Never waiting long, once you arrive your immediately taken back. I'm 65 and have a fear of needles in my mouth. They take extra care to make sure I'm comfortable. They have earned my confidence . They do great restorative work, particles, ect. Definitely help you gain your smile back . I highly recommend this dental office. On a scale of 1-10 they rate a 15

Fantastic experience: I drive an hour to get ALL work done with Dr. Harnett! He is truly a gifted Dr with care of the patient first. He has continually help maintain 3 baby teeth in my "very" adult mouth instead of costly procedures! You never hear of this business model anymore in a very greedy world. AND I don't want to forget to mention the rest of the team, from when you walk in the door until you leave ARE simply the best and beyond welcoming :)!!!

My 9 year old daughter went into another room with hers and she told me her hygienist, Ila (I think, I'm bad with names) was very nice as well. Our dentist was great and gave me alot of great info, even things to ask my primary doctor about. I've never had that experience at a dentist before, so I would highly recommend them. The gentleman who scheduled our follow-up was also extremely nice and patient. He was very helpful with my insurance and I'm very glad he helped us!
