Negative experience: Dr. Ludington misdiagnosed my tooth, which resulted in two root canals. DO NOT GO HERE! Read the other negative reviews—what they are saying is 100% accurate. He is rude, condescending, and rushes appointments without any conclusive evidence to get patients in and out as quickly as possible so he can move on to the next one. My primary dentist referred me to Dr. Ludington for a same-day procedure and warned me, "He's grumpy." I was grateful that he could get me in and thought maybe they were exaggerating. They weren't. Dr. Ludington was abrasive and dismissive. The staff seemed miserable (except for the billing lady) and lacked empathy, personality, or enthusiasm—not helpful when you're already anxious about being there. I had an appointment at 11:00 a.m. to evaluate tooth #14, but the cold test was inconclusive, and I was sent home to let the ibuprofen I had taken earlier wear off. I returned at 3:30 p.m. and told Dr. Ludington that I did not think tooth #14 was the problem and believed it was tooth #15, as that tooth had caused me issues in the past. He performed the cold test again, and the results were once again inconclusive. There were varying responses between teeth #14 and #15, and I explained that the test did not cause pain—it simply felt cold. Between visits, I had done some research on root canals and asked about getting a CBCT scan. Dr. Ludington responded that "X-rays are the worst diagnostic tool" and suggested I might need two root canals. That didn't sound right to me, but he was the specialist, so I trusted his judgment. Fast forward: he performed a root canal on tooth #14, and a week later I was still in just as much pain. I returned for treatment on tooth #15—the tooth I had originally suspected—and it was found to be full of infection. It began draining as soon as it was drilled. I then had to take antibiotics for the following week to treat the infection. The key point is this: had proper diagnostic measures been taken and a CBCT scan performed, the infection in tooth #15 likely would have been identified before any work was done on tooth #14. In summary, Dr. Ludington rushed my initial appointment and misdiagnosed a tooth that was otherwise healthy. As a result, I underwent two root canals, endured weeks of pain, and ultimately needed crowns on both teeth. In total, I spent over $7,000 throughout this ordeal. To make matters worse, the infected tooth that was eventually treated appears to be failing, as I have experienced a persistent ache since the procedure. Save yourself the time, money, and pain, and go elsewhere. Based on my experience, you are unlikely to receive the level of care and attention you deserve and may find yourself dealing with the same frustration and regret that I have.

Fantastic experience: I went in with an abscess tooth and in great pain. Dr. Ludington quickly assessed my condition and proceeded to open the tooth and drain it . Both he and his assistant, Madison, were professional, courteous and extremely efficient.

Fantastic experience: Excellent practice. I have had 3 implants a 2 root canals over the years. The staff is very helpful and prompt with billing questions and appointments. Dr. Luddington is very skilled and can diagnose issues that normal dentists can not handle.

Fantastic experience: After the 4 needle pokes, it was a piece of cake! No pain during the extraction or bone graft and, surprisingly, little pain or discomfort after the numbing cleared. Negative experience: I visited Dr. Luddington’s office for root canal treatment and had a very positive experience with Dr. Luddington and the clinical staff. They were professional, helpful, and resolved my issue. Unfortunately, my experience with the billing process was the opposite, and patients should be aware of how it’s handled. Earlier this year, I made a partial payment during a visit and clearly communicated that I was working on paying the remainder. My plan was always to pay the balance on 4/17/26. Despite this, my account was sent to collections the same week I intended to pay — I began receiving collection calls on 4/14. I never received a single phone call or email from the office itself before this happened. Throughout the year, I received only two billing notices: one older notice and one that arrived just about a week ago. These were the only communications I received from the office. Had they reached out even once by phone or email, they would have known I was planning to pay this week. When I went in on 4/17 to pay the balance in full, I learned that an additional $100+ fee had been added due to the involvement of a collection agency. This was frustrating and felt unnecessary given that I had already communicated my intent to pay. Later that same day, I received a mailed notice stating that there had been “repeated calls” and “no attempt to pay.” This does not reflect my experience. I made a partial payment earlier this year, and I did not receive any calls from the office prior to the account being sent to collections. Dr. Luddington provides excellent clinical care, but based on my experience, I strongly recommend that patients be cautious and proactive when dealing with the billing department. Communication was limited, timelines were not handled reasonably, and the written statements I received did not match the actual efforts I made to pay my balance.

Negative experience: Dr Luddington was extremy rude to both his assistant and myself. Furthermore, he did not send my refferral to my dentist or bill ne in a timely manner. He did provide reffral info after multiple calls from my dentist. He then billed me months later and sent bill to breditor within two weeks of bill. He is birderline senile and most of his staff seems unable to do their job!

Negative experience: I had an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience with New England Endodontics and Implantology, and I would strongly caution others before seeking care here. To start, when I scheduled my appointment—based on a direct referral from my dentist—the office never asked for my insurance information. Given the referral, I reasonably assumed they were in-network with United Concordia (Tricare Dental for dependents). While I acknowledge I could have double-checked, this lack of basic intake and transparency set the tone for what followed. During that initial interaction, the receptionist also made it very clear—rudely—that I would “definitely need childcare,” while visibly eyeing my three children with what felt like disdain. It was unnecessary and unprofessional. Five days later, I arrived for what I believed was my scheduled root canal, only to be told it was merely an evaluation. This was never clearly communicated. Again—poor communication and lack of patient education. I will say that the assistant, Liz, was kind and did her best to make me comfortable during the initial intake and x-rays. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of the visit. When Dr. H.J. Ludington came in, the interaction quickly became uncomfortable and inappropriate. He made odd, pointed “jokes” about me having three children (“must be something in the tap water”) and then escalated to a comment about me “really liking the uniform,” which was completely out of line. I laughed awkwardly in the moment, but the comments were unprofessional and unwelcome. He then recommended I take Valium prior to the procedure—one dose at home and another upon arrival—for anxiety. When I explained that I am currently breastfeeding, he dismissed my concern and incorrectly stated that Valium has a short half-life and would not affect my baby. He added that I could “pump and dump” if I felt the need. This directly contradicts established medical guidance. According to the NIH, diazepam (Valium) and its metabolites accumulate in breastfed infants and have long half-lives, making timing feeds ineffective in reducing exposure. Being given inaccurate and dismissive medical advice in this context was deeply concerning. To make matters worse, his explanation of the procedure itself felt condescending—oversimplified to the point of being patronizing. Finally, after the evaluation, I was sent to scheduling and informed—for the first time—that the procedure would be out-of-network, costing $1,706, with over $600 due upfront. This critical financial information was never disclosed prior to the appointment. Patients should not have to discover major financial obligations after the fact due to an office’s failure to perform basic intake. I canceled the procedure immediately. Unfortunately, I am still left paying over $200 for an “evaluation” that consisted of poor communication, inappropriate behavior, and questionable medical advice. Between the lack of transparency, poor communication, inappropriate comments, and questionable medical guidance, I left feeling frustrated, disrespected, and frankly disgusted. I would not recommend this office to anyone. I will be reporting this experience to Tricare and strongly encourage others to look elsewhere for care.

Fantastic experience: Thorough exam , explained everything so I could make a truly informed decision. I was in a stressful situation already in addition to determining I will need to lose my tooth, his true compassion was heartwarming.

Negative experience: Dr ludington shoved a nurses hands out of my mouth in the middle of a procedure because she was apparently blocking his mirror. She seemed startled and I certainly was since it all happened in my mouth. Lucky I wasn’t cut. Stay away. I’d hate to work there if that’s how he treats nurses in front of patients. Negative experience: I am not someone who leaves reviews. I got work done by Dr. Ludington back in 2023. It was such a horrible experience, in a multitude of ways, that I still sometimes check to see if he’s still in practice. It was that awful of an experience. Mean man. I truly believe all the positive reviews he is getting are fake - because they could not have possibly been dealing with the same person I did. Please please please save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.

Positive experience: Implant 4 mm was wrong size. Removed and replaced with 5 mm next day. Not happy to endure two recovery pain cycles, but grateful Dr L was meticulous enough to correct his assistant’s error.

I had a dental extraction which was uncomplicated and painless (other than the initial administration of anesthetic. Highly recommend. I just had a follow up appointment, the staff is fabulous! His assistant thoroughly explained my imaging and how implants are placed and how assessment would proceed all in coordination with my dentist. I can’t recommend more highly!

Fantastic experience: They are amazing, I can't say enough about them.

Negative experience: First visit with Dr L. he was nice told me I needed my tooth pulled and a post put in. Second visit with him, was horrible. 8:20 in the morning and he was in a foul mood and took it out on me. When I was trying to explain my pain because I also have nerve pain in my head, he told me "You are not being accused of a crime", I guess I wasn't answering his question the way he wanted. Then told me, "People like you, mostly women, think that if they get their tooth fixed it will fix their nerve pain". After I already told him I have a neurologist, and I have had two shots in my head. I also let him know that I thought they were two different problems. Then went on and on about a prior patient and how he sent him a "scathing letter" about not needed what the doctor told him he needed and then he had sent him back his records highlighted where he told him 7 times to go to a neurologist. Then told me that he would need me to go to his neurologist before he would even see me again. He asked me two times who my neurologist was, and I guess it my neurologist wasn't good enough. I left there crying. It was wild. I don't know how his staff deals with him on the daily.

Fantastic experience: Dr Ludington is thorough and his staff is attentive and professional. I have had two procedures in the past with good outcomes each time and no pain. I highly recommend him.

Negative experience: Both the staff and Dr Ludington were cold. I had an issue misdiagnosed that I was having with my tooth. I was happy to that I was able to have it fixed by another local dentist, however that will be the last appointment with this office.

I had part one of a root canal done but the antibiotics from the dentist were not working, again they made an appointment the next day. The new antibiotic took around a day to start working. Professional staff, experienced, friendly doctor who takes the time to explain stuff.

Negative experience: I went there to check out for previous root canal. They could not see anything in XRay and suggested check out in more 'advance' machine that cost out of pocket $250. It nearly took 25 seconds to capture ($10 per second, C. Ronaldo makes $6.34 per second so not bad). Had to go back week later for result, and he told me he could not see anything with that. Then they took another XRay and still no result. He advise either redo root canal (if bad has to turn into implant) or just do a implant which will cost close to $5,000. All these for only 1 tooth. Expect me to take his advice while he can not see anything. No, thanks.

Negative experience: Received a procedure 2 years ago which the doc said was over 90% successful. Come to find out, my procedure was one that fell on the unsuccessful part of that equation. The kicker was that I needed to pay an extra $280 to find that out. Not a happy customer.

Fantastic experience: Showed up to Dr. Ludington’s office unannounced on a Tuesday morning for an emergency after experiencing severe pain on an old root canal. Instead of scheduling me for another day, him and his staff saw me right away to numb the pain and treat me that day. Looked at his schedule and without any questions, scheduled me through his lunch to make sure I was squared away and pain free. Can’t thank him and his team enough! Highly reccomend.

Positive experience: Go for a first of the day appointment because in my experience they get backed up consistently. That said, Dr. Luddington takes he time to very thoroughly explain what you need, why you need it and answers all your questions. They also give you the full financial details before you commit.
