Negative experience: There are no words to describe how they made me feel as a paid up, never canceled patient. Their standard of care policy is a priority over you as a human. Must be why they need a policy. Otherwise, they will dismiss you in heartbeat.

Fantastic experience: Once in the office, the hygienist (Britney) was wonderful. She took the time to explain and demonstrate what I needed to do between visits. She will be my hygienist from now moving forward, no rotating or random assignment. Love that personal touch. Dr. Durnell was friendly and made me feel like I had known him for years. Knowledgable in what was going on with my mouth.

Negative experience: So I did love Michiana Smiles. But will never suggest them again. I didn’t know my insurance didn’t pay the full balance, and I didn’t get a letter stating that. Once you are sent to collections they drop you, and even if you pay the collection they will not take you back you are banned.

Positive experience: Never been to this dentist but seems very nice. But I really wish they would change their tooth fairy commercials. It is really creepy! I never thought of an older man dressed like a fairy would be the tooth fairy. I guess I have a better imagination of tooth fairies. The commercial alone makes me creeped out so I don't want to go to a dentist at all. Thanks just a thought.

Dr Durnell, Julia, Kim and Suzy are very professional I love his team and they care about you. Negative experience: I have extreme dental anxiety so I was recommended here. Cost an arm and a leg, I was put to sleep and woke up in the middle of it. They were extremely rude raising their voice at me, when all I was asking for was a minute to calm down. They ended up kicking me out. Never was given a refund. This is NOT a dentist for people with anxiety, my fear for the dentist has now doubled.

Negative experience: After 6 years of issue after issue, my family and I are switching. Constant problems with billing, insurance, and lack of consistency between hygienists regarding my dental hygiene and gum health. The most recent visit was the final straw, with me having to pay the entire visit out of pocket due to confusion with insurance, but I was not notified until AFTER the work was completed.

Negative experience: I want to start off by saying I love the dentist here. Always has been personable and helpful. After losing the hygienist I would regularly get, which I loved, I started trying new hygienists. They were all fine but still not as good as my original one. Today, was a new extreme. I was treated by the hygienist as if I was more of a patient at a doctor’s office rather than a dental office. They take your blood pressure (with your wrist) and mine read quite high. I let the hygienist know that this kind of machine has never worked for me and has always read way higher than what it is truly. She ignored this comment and did another reading five minutes later. After my reading was still high, she persisted with comments about how I HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE and need to do things to change this before I have a critical medical emergency. I never felt heard or even cared for in this moment. Then came the actual dental cleaning. I was continuously wincing in pain. The way the hygienist dug into my gums was something I had never experienced before. Finally, my dentist came in and the first thing the hygienist brings up is my blood pressure… after he examined me, he said I was doing great and to go on my merry way. This experience for me was bizarre and uncomfortable. I went after my appointment to my works RN and my blood pressure registered within normal range after she used a cuff. I understand going above and beyond for patients but this was a routine cleaning. Not a intervention.

Fantastic experience: About a year ago. I complete full hybridge replacement for both my upper and lower arches. Dr Mader and his team have been amazing. They took the time to explain the full process and work on my schedule they were professional and personal to my specific needs. They followed up with me post surgery and have continued to help since. Through follow up visits and cleanings. I was apprehensive at the cost and other issues at first even compared to other options such as all on 4 etc. But as someone that has struggled through almost every level of dental procedure possible. I have to say that the hybridge is as close to having real teeth as possible. And I would do it again tomorrow. Especially through Michiana Smiles. The team there is great. I have never felt talked down to or that my specific questions were not being resolved.

Fantastic experience: I had a crown fall off a tooth while on vacation. This was following my annual cleaning just a few weeks ago. So glad I didn't pursue the offer the first dental office gave for me... show up at 8am in the hopes of getting in. The angry-sounding receptionist also insisted they'd have to treat me as a new patient, which typically requires a full set of x-rays. A Call to Meridian Smiles got me a bit of sympathy, an appointment for the next afternoon and a promise that they'd only charge for the services I needed. I was treated with delight by everyone I met: Katie, Lorna, Dustin, Susie. It's in their name... I got SMILES, great senses of humor, professional service including a handshake from the doc (who doesn't like that?). The office building, too, just makes you want to go in (I mean, if you gotta go see a dentist, why not pick the choicest location?). It's nestled in a natural setting, with an invitation to enjoy the idyllic sitting area out back and views to the outdoors from the indoors. Good luck with whatever you have in your mouth. These guys can help!

Negative experience: I woke up with a swollen face due to an infected tooth and they were able to get me in right away. The dental assistant was really nice. The doctor told me that he wanted to pull the tooth and told me the additional services he’d recommended that were “optional”. I was told that my insurance wouldn’t cover the bone graph and implant he suggested, so I asked for an estimate if I covered the entire cost. They wanted almost $9,000 for ONE TOOTH to be pulled, do a bone graph, and place an implant. I let them know that wasn’t possible for me financially and asked for an estimate just for the extraction. Suddenly they needed to speak to me and “make sure I understood the risks” I’d be taking. I explained that I had already discussed with the doctor and despite his suggestions could not financially make that an option. They didn’t respond for over 2 weeks. Then suddenly a new person calls and wants to discuss their in house financing and getting me scheduled. I had to call multiple times to get ahold of their accounting person and she told me that she’d have to get the doctor's permission to only perform an extraction, because it was “unethical” for him to not do what he thought was best. So apparently when they tell you something is “optional” they really mean that you must do it or they won’t help you. I ended up being told that the doctor gave his permission to only do what I could afford, but I no longer feel comfortable going here. I was also overcharged on my visit and only found out when my insurance sent me a statement showing they covered the full cost of the exam. When I called to ask if what I paid for my initial exam would be refunded, the woman I needed to speak to was “busy”. I had to call multiple times and when I asked if I could speak to someone else, she suddenly found time to take my call.

Negative experience: Nice people, but the work I had done fell right out of my mouth a couple months later. Went in to have it fixed and was charged again. Didn’t return my calls either, so I switched to afdent and finally got it fixed. Wasted almost a year on this place and way too much money for nothing being fixed

Fantastic experience: Love it here! I got my clearaligners here and they did an excellent job! The dental hygienist I saw every visit was so incredibly nice! The office staff are also very easy and nice to work with. My case was a little complicated and they handled it with great care. Also, the facilities are extremely clean and have a good atmosphere!

Negative experience: Recently we’ve had several issues. After taking my daughter out of school for her appointment we had to wait 2 hours just to then be told the dentist left for the day without ever coming by, however; when I was put on bedrest they still charged a no show fee even though I called to cancel the day before as soon as I got the orders from my doctor. We’ve also had several bills that were incorrect.

Fantastic experience: If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Growing up, the dentist office has always made me uneasy, but the minute I walked into the doors of this place I felt at ease. The staff was wonderful and so kind. I had a "dental emergency" and they were able to squeeze me in that day and made sure I was taken care of. I am so thankful I found this place!!! Go here!! You won't be disappointed!!

Negative experience: I honestly loved this place, have been going to it for years.. until this last year or so . They have continuously messed up our bills with our insurance ( more than 5 times), we went to pay ( several times) and they said that we didn't owe anything and that the insurance picked it up and then we get a bill in the mail!!! I understand mistakes happen.. but this was on more than a couple occasions! We have it in our chart to have Brianna as our hygienist for our cleaning( she is amazing, my 4 year old even likes going to the dentist because of her). There has been times when she hasn't been there for our appointment and they ask if so and so is ok foe our appointment (we mostly agree to it.) This last time we went in for my husband's appointment ( we were early) I checked my husband in and the lady at the front asked for our name ( I gave it to her) and she looked and said 3:00 ... I said yes .. she said ok I'll check him in.. we wait... and then it became 3:13.. so I went and asked if he was going back soon.. another lady went back to talk to the hygienist ( who we thought was gonna be brianna) . The hygienist ( not brianna) come out and says ... your appointment is for 3:30... my husband and I both said no! It's for 3:00 . It's on all our appointment confirmations ( emails and txt and appointment card). Then she says your appointment got bumped to 3:30. We were very upset!.. how are you just going to bump our appointment while we are sitting there in the lobby waiting and not tell us?! And why weren't we asked if a different hygienist would be ok or not?! There was zero communication about any of this at all! They have zero respect for their patients. Over this past year we have noticed a decline on the care we used to get. We have felt hurried in our appointments over the past year. When we call about our bill and have questions we don't get a call back! My husband and I gor up and left without being seen for his appointment. They acted like it wasn't a big deal that his appointment got bumped and didn't tell us! They will no longer have us as patients anymore!! Zero integrity, zero respect for patients!!! We are very livid!!!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Vandevoorde and his staff are wonderful! The staff at Michiana Smiles are outstanding. I always feel welcome, always greeted with a smile, and everything is exceptionally clean and organized.

Fantastic experience: Everyone was so nice and welcoming! So, I had an emergency where part of my permanent retainer came loose and had a wire sticking out and they were able to fit me in asap and get the wire cut and smoothed out and they didn’t even charge me!!! Thank you again!!!

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience at Michiana Smiles today. The staff was very nice and friendly. I worked with Heather and she was awesome. She took the time to explain everything she did or was going to do. She also went over my x-rays and explained what she saw going on with my teeth. The dentist was nice as well he was great at explaining what he saw and afterwards told me to think about what I would like to do as far as proceeding with care and the final result I would like to see He was very honest about everything and talked about some the options I might have. Very pleased!!!

Fantastic experience: My experience there today was extremely awesome, from the time I walked in until I walked out every single person was very polite and professional. I had broken my crown around 3:45 on Tuesday and they had a new one back on before 3:00 the next day, I can't thank them enough for taking care of me.

He was direct but very kind, not sugarcoating anything, but in a way that made me feel like he was talking to a friend. He truly seems like he is passionate about helping people achieve the smile they want, no matter what their starting point is. He walked me through the entire process of what I will need done. I felt very comfortable with him and my lovely hygienist, Elvia. They are very understanding and kind, and I felt no judgement from anyone in the office. The front desk ladies were wonderful, and even guided me through my insurance and being able to get my procedures done even with my dental benefits being close to maxed out for the year. I highly recommend Michiana Smiles, Dr. Durnell & the rest of the wonderful team in their office!

Fantastic experience: Today was my first visit to this office, and I am BEYOND! impressed with the place already! Something that immediately caught my attention- aside from how green and serene the beautiful landscaping is- was that almost every person who walked in was greeted by name. Small, kind acts like that really stand out! I was impressed before I even left the waiting room. The office staff was very kind and welcoming, the dental hygienist was a delight, and the dentist was just as great! Their team walked me through a thorough but very simple to understand plan that makes me feel like I’ll be in very safe hands under their care. My insurance ended up being a little wonky, but their office staff was great about looking further into it for me. I never thought I’d ever say this about a dentist office, but I’m actually really looking forward to my next appointment! 5 stars, easily!

Negative experience: I would rate 0 star if possible. I when to this office a total of 2 times. The first being pre-Covid, at my first visit the staff made me feel entirely uncomfortable and talked about me instead of to me. Then when I would ask clarifying questions about my treatment plan I was basically told that they could not explain it to me. I was given the wrong date for an appointment that I had to fast for, then when I showed up they told me I was not even scheduled for an appointment. I asked them to schedule me for the nearest available appointment and to send me a confirmation of the date and time.. never happened. I did not receive any kind of date for a future appointment. Then I started receiving a bill for a $50 “missed appointment”. Today I called and talked to Suzie. I calmly (but firmly) explained to her why I would not be paying, now keep in mind I did not swear, raise my voice, or anything of the like, she then told me that she would not be helping me because of the way I was speaking to her and she hung up on me. Horrible staff, awful patient care, and obviously messed up scheduling system.

Fantastic experience: You guys took really good care of me I love you Carlene you’re a good nurse for me I am actually going out of town for Thanksgiving so I will see you after thanksgiving have a good thanksgiving happy thanksgiving to you and your family as well the other nurses and the doctors their family as well. Carlene you are my favorite nurse and Brittany you’re fun Mary you as well and Carlene I hope to see you again I really appreciate you and Brittany working on me and Dr.Mader for taking that implant that didn’t want to hold on to me out yesterday.

Fantastic experience: I am so pleased to say I have received excellent & exceptional service from all at Michiana Smiles! I had a severe problem with my teeth due to all the medicine I have to take. Dr. Mader & his staff helped to reassure me that having the Hybridge Implants were my best option. They were so right!!! I am extremely happy with my new smile & how great I feel. Negative experience: POOR SERVICE. Tried to tell me I had to pay my second cleaning out of pocket because they decided to do a cleaning before my 6 months was up. My insurance wouldn’t pick it up even though they told me on the phone to call my insurance & ask them. Never ONCE DID ANYONE TELL ME MY SECOND CLEANING BE PAID OUT OF POCKET. All the do is nickel & dime you. I will never go back. They’re rude & the upper management is terrible.

Negative experience: I would get them to give you a price before you have any services done. I gave them my insurance like you do all dentists and they told me my insurance was good, they did not say my insurance was out of network and it would be more expensive than if I went to a dentist in network. It is my fault I didn’t find a dentist in network but I feel as if I was taken advantage of when I was hit with a bill of over 500$ for a cleaning. They should have at least told me before hand that I was not in network because 10/10 people would’ve not had the services done and would find another dentist. They were very nice I will say that but when I called to dispute the charges they claimed all they could do was give me a 5$ discount because it’s not their fault they were out of network.

Negative experience: Make sure you double check with your insurance before visiting. They didn't mention my insurance was out of network when I gave them my information before my appointment and then they sent me a bill for $534 for a general cleaning and x-ray exam. I have reached out to them and they won't work with me on lowering the price to a more reasonable amount.

I recently had a change of insurance and Fallon went above and beyond to make sure I was still in network and able to get the care I needed. Today they were running a little behind but once I got in again the hygienist and dentist did amazing as usual! See you next April!

Positive experience: The check in folks were very nice and professional - I was nervous as this was my first time with their office and I hadn’t been to a dentist in three years. The hygienist took the time to go over recommended teeth cleaning treatment and did her best to make the experience as comfortable as possible considering it had been awhile so I knew that the cleaning would be somewhat uncomfortable! The only thing I could say they could improve on is that I had to wait to see the dentist at end for over 20 minutes - I don’t expect the dentist to be there immediately but that was a pretty long wait. All in all very pleased with visit

Fantastic experience: There is not enough good I can say about Michiana Smiles. Dr. Durnell is the absolute best! From his corny jokes and bedside manner, to calling and checking on his patients later in the evening, my dentist phobia has been greatly reduced. I have had 4 extractions done now, and he always takes his time whether it’s a simple 1 hour procedure or a grueling 5 hour visit. If there’s any indication of pain or discomfort, he stops to make sure I’m ok before proceeding. The ladies that help him out are nothing short of amazing as well. Fantastic experience: I made an emergency trip to Michiana Smiles on Friday afternoon because I had a crown come off. I was afraid it would be hours of waiting before they could fit me in (based on my experience with my previous dentist) but they got me right in and fixed it quickly. I was in and out in about 30-40 minutes. They are wonderful, and super friendly.
