Positive experience: The dental care was good. The insurance billing, yikes. After the visit I was told they only bill dental insurance and do not bill medical insurance unless the procedure was in the hospital. I only have medical insurance with some dental coverage. It took 4 months to receive a bill. It also took 4 months for my insurance to be billed. My insurance notified me that as a preferred provider, this provider needed to bill within a certain period which had already lapsed, so the insurance denied the claim. I’ve never seen this happen with a preferred provider.

Fantastic experience: Great office! My daughter has high anxiety and Maggie and Dr. Keyes were extremely understanding. I felt they were very competent and professional, and helped her not be embarrassed. Her surgery went perfectly! Dr Keyes also did surgery on my other daughter the same day that went equally was well. All the staff is fantastic and thorough and really went out of their way helping us that day. Front office personnel were especially helpful and very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I could tell they really care about their patients. Why aren’t there 6 stars???

Fantastic experience: Tl;Dr The staff is friendly and efficient. The clinic is clean. The oral surgeon skilled. They give you a cost estimate and are transparent about the additional charge to use a credit card. Now for the rest of the story: The fact that the oral surgeon was able to get an IV in my arm that most people aren't speaks volumes to his skill. I didn't have any pain after my extraction- I didn't take any meds- but then again it was a relatively "simple' extraction as far as extractions go. The hardest part post-op was limiting myself to soft foods for a week! I've only been to the office twice- the consult and the actual procedure. The consult didn't leave me with the best first impression. My anxiety was through the roof and other than the fantastic lady at the front desk, the visit didn't do much to quell my anxiety. The second visit went better as I had a better idea of what to expect but let's face it, for some people including myself, the dental environment is an inherently anxiety provoking experience. The power imbalance, the leak of control, the vulnerability.... None of that is going to be easily eased when you are laying on an uncomfortable dentist chair in a cold quiet room with only your thoughts to keep you company. Anxiety aside, all went well. I also appreciated the fun bandaid, the thoughtful take home bag,

Fantastic experience: Wow, a HUGE thank you to the team at Island Oral & Facial Surgery. I went through agonizing pain for about 12 hours, then sat sucking on ice for two days, then a friend helped me discover Ibuprofen for another couple days before finally giving in and calling for help. My appointment was set for 4:30pm on a Wednesday...and it took me a bit to realize they'd just scheduled me for an assessment or whatever...ugh! I called them a few hours before my appointment and the nice lady confirmed this was the case...because the surgeon was going on vacation the following week and things were pretty booked up Thursday and Friday (he would tell me later on in the day that he was taking his daughter off to college. Such a nice guy. Great guy.) I was worried. But, they said if I hadn't eaten anything that day, they would see what they could do about getting it removed during my appointment. I crossed my fingers... Got to the office about 30-40 minutes early. They saw me right away. Got X-rays. Nurse was a delight. Doc came in, confirmed what had happened, and said the old wisdom tooth needed to come out -- abscess, infection, etc. I gave the thumbs up and he took great care of me. We work out at the same gym, the gym where I hurt myself, but I bet he works out super early. I'm more of an afternoon gym rat. Speaking of which, if you're going to lift heavy...consider a mouth guard. TRUST ME...you can only clench your teeth so hard before your teeth begin to suffer. Fantastic experience: It’s been six hours since my tooth was pulled. The local appears to be worn off, but I have almost no pain, and minimal taste of blood. Not only was Dr. Keyes able to fit my extraction into schedule, he did so outside of regular office hours to help alleviate my pain. And his friendly, efficient team enable hem to serve a lot of people, but make us all feel like individual humans. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: Booked a VA appointment, it took 2 months to get in. Checked in and confirmed with the front desk person that I was there for a VA referral and that's who needed to be billed. Told DR Keyes that it was a VA appointment. When I checked out and tried to book my surgery appointment, I was told that they do not take VA. Failure on appointment person, front desk person and DR Keyes himself. In the end they billed my private insurance and sent me a bill.

Fantastic experience: I'm doing amazing after my rather extensive oral surgery yesterday morning (multiple extractionsand 4 implants placed. I have literally no swelling, no bruising, no bleeding, and best of all no pain (slight sensitivity which ibuprofen is handling well). Fantastic experience: I woke up on Wednesday with pain in my jaw; I work for a dentist, so I had my employer take an x-ray, and it was apparent my wisdom teeth needed to come out. Dr. Keyes was able to get me in for a consultation on Thursday around 10am, and by that time on Friday the teeth were out. The entire process was smooth and painless - exactly what you want when it's pain that brings you there in the first place. I can't recommend Dr. Keyes & his staff highly enough!
