Negative experience: Headline: Extreme Administrative Incompetence, Contract Violations, and Hostile Front-Office Staff I am an active patient of record here, and my recent experience with the front-office staff—specifically the office manager, Thelma—has been an absolute administrative nightmare. If you value financial transparency, ethical customer service, and having your insurance contractually honored, go elsewhere. First, this office demonstrates a severe lack of financial integrity. On June 30th, I paid a $516 patient balance in full. Two days later, management aggressively demanded I settle that exact same balance, falsely claiming no payment had been received. Had I not fiercely protected myself by insisting on a physical receipt, they would have forced me to pay twice due to their own internal ledger failures. Second, they are actively violating their network provider agreements. They repeatedly insisted they do not accept my Sun Life PPO. After escalating this directly to Sun Life Compliance and the Director of Operations, the insurer conclusively confirmed that Dr. Tom Sorensen and this clinic remain active, participating providers bound by contracts with MetLife (signed Oct 18, 2025) and UnitedHealthcare (signed Mar 16, 2026). When a Sun Life representative initiated a recorded three-way call to correct this, Office Manager Thelma screamed over the carrier, tried to manipulate the data, and abruptly hung up on the insurer when confronted with the legal facts. They did the exact same thing with my Delta Dental PPO initially until the claims successfully processed and paid. Most concerning of all, I am in the middle of an active cycle of care for prepaid work that now requires immediate clinical correction. Because I stood up as an advocate for my own care and challenged their billing and insurance errors, the front staff has constructed bad-faith, retaliatory barriers to service, amounting to constructive patient abandonment and targeted, hostile discrimination. A formal consumer complaint has been submitted to the Colorado Division of Insurance, a formal administrative complaint has been filed with the Colorado Dental Board regarding licensee supervision, and Sun Life Compliance is actively investigating under Case Reference No. 202-6-00-42-34-53. Dr. Tom himself is a kind man and possibly a good dentist, but he is allowing his front-office staff to completely destroy his practice's reputation, violate state network laws, and abuse patients. Check the other negative reviews online—this is a systemic pattern of administrative malpractice. Avoid this front office at all costs. If you value fairness in pricing, proper payments, sanity, and respect go somewhere else. This practice also seems to believe that because they are a high volume office that it is an excuse to do these action or hang up. I currently also have a recorded three way conversation with my insurance provider and Thelma were she is attempting to bully both me and a neutral third party and attempting to cohort the insurance carrier in agreeing with her when they disagree with her claim. Thelma and the front office staff are some of the most ignorant and incompetent individuals when it comes to insurance or proper payment I have ever encountered.

Fantastic experience: I had a tooth pulled and I gotta say it went WAY smoother and faster than I expected. The injections went QUICK and painlessly and the dentist was an expert at getting that tooth out FAST. I didn't even know it was over. And recovery has been very smooth. The dentist was knowledgeable and obviously experienced, which is exactly what you want for these kinds of things.

Positive experience: Comfort dental in Glenwood Springs Colorado.... Well I am on my second top denture from there and the first one was a complete nightmare they were like you are good to go and I was like no I'm not I can't close my mouth and I am pouring blood out of both sides of my mouth and they were like no you're done. This new one I got fits a lot better and I think is going to last but my first experience was not good at all. All in all a 3 star dentistry practice.

Negative experience: I’ve been going here for over 15 years and they do a good job cleaning my teeth and fixing fillings. However, for the last eight months, I can’t even get them to answer the phone or return a message. I’ve called them over and over again without getting through. It’s come to the point where I need to go there to get an appointment, which is ridiculous. I think they need to hire some more receptionists. They just responded by to my review with a canned response to please reach out, which is pretty ironic.

Negative experience: I went in to make my daughter an appointment a month ago and gave a copy her insurance card at that time. I was told if there was an issue they would call me. It said they were in network on my insurance website. We drove 30 minutes for the appointment today only to find out they never ran the insurance and apparently don’t take her insurance because it says “pediatric” on it. This is very frustrating considering I gave all the information a month ago. I would not recommend this office.

Negative experience: It’s honestly been a really frustrating experience trying to get an appointment here. There are no available appointments on the website—even looking three months out—and it doesn’t seem to matter whether you select new patient or dental emergency. What’s more concerning is the lack of communication. I’ve tried calling, leaving messages, and sending emails, but haven’t received any response back. It makes it hard to tell if the office is just fully booked, understaffed, or possibly not operating as expected. If the office is still open, it would really help to have better communication or at least some indication of availability. Right now, it just feels impossible to get in touch or schedule anything.

Negative experience: I would not recommend this place for wisdom tooth extraction. Some surgeon comes down from Denver to do the tough extractions. Not only did I walk out of the dentists office after my extraction with 2 dry sockets, they left behind a huge tooth chunk that wasn't even connected to the root anymore. Only found out after I had xrays done at another dentist.

Fantastic experience: My experience at this place was very positive. The place itself is like a clinic, with different "boxes" and the doctors moving from one patient to another. Dr Ben was the dentist that took care of me. He was great. He's an experienced doctor, and solved an issue that previous dentists didn't. So I'm very satisfied with my visit. Also, prices are quite aforable. Next time I need to visit a dentist while being in Roaring Fork, I will definitely come back to this place.

Fantastic experience: I have been getting dental work at Comfort Dental Glenwood for most of 20 years, and I have no complaints. I have had several crowns as well as fillings, and I am planning to trust them with an implant procedure. Dr. Ben and all the others have been true professionals and experts. I believe that the services here are on par with full rate dental offices. (Cleanings by assistants have seemed a bit perfunctory, but the pricing is exceptionally low.) I am very grateful for Comfort Dental and their staff. I am very impressed that their google reviews average 4.9!!

The hygienists and office staff were so efficient and courteous - which made me feel confident in their care and comfortable - I appreciate their thorough transparency communicating about pricing and insurance coverage. They were able to get me in same-day due to a cancellation so I was lucky and grateful for the help. This office is a tremendous asset to our community.

Negative experience: As a new patient at Comfort Dental, I chose the Glenwood office due to its proximity, but my experience has been disappointing, particularly with the reception staff. Their standard phone greeting lacks professionalism, as it simply states, "Comfort Dental, I'm going to put you on hold," without anything like "good morning" or "thank you for holding." When I requested to transfer my records to the Avon office after my first visit, I encountered significant obstacles. First, I was told they couldn't transfer the records because they are a franchise... lol, what?? Then, despite multiple calls and being put on hold, to then providing my email for a records release form, I received no form or response. The Avon office even reached out on my behalf, but to no avail. Fortunately, the Avon office offered to retake my X-rays at no charge.

Fantastic experience: Such a great place, Dr Ben is super kind and great to work with, Dr Shea very efficient and cool guy, Dr Ryan highly professional and Dr Tom is basically a big Teddy Bear, Ava who runs the office is sweet as heck and always willing to help however she can. They all do a great job and are wonderful people 5/5.

Fantastic experience: I thought this would be the Walmart of dentistry. Couldn’t have been more wrong. Had two implants put in. The first appointment they put the screws in immediately, no pre-exam no consultation, none of that BS. One more visit to get x-rays and one more visit too get the scan for the new teeth, And last visit to get the teeth installed. Wonderful, mature, knowledgeable, staff. I couldn’t be happier!

Positive experience: Dr. Ryan is wonderful. I have a fear of the dentist but he put me right at ease. When I have to go now I have zero anxiety. He explained things well and is very gentle and kind. The only reason I gave a 4 star review vs a 5 start review is because they do not prescribe any type of pain killers following a procedure and someone who has low pain tolerance especially after a root canal was not fun to go through.

Fantastic experience: Relief! Comfort Dental got me in the same day I called. The Dentist I saw was knowledgeable about what I was experiencing and helped ease my tension by walking me through the details and facts. Plus the x-rays went quickly and painlessly and the cleaning was speedy. Overall I was in and out within 30-40 minutes and I left feeling totally relieved and comforted. Negative experience: After 9 nine years of being a patient at Comfort Dental Glenwood Springs, I'm done! Over the years, the quality of care and service has gone down extremely. What happened over the years? Why? I've been loyal to keep coming back, however it's been sad to see the decline over the years. This dental office has turned into a DUMP - It's become an unwelcoming atmosphere. Every chair in the front office is ripped and falling apart, and the office is dirty. Employees are subpar, and after last week's experience with an awful unfriendly dental hygienist, there is no reason to ever go back.

Positive experience: They were able to get me in the same week for a few cavity fills. The doctor was kind but you could tell they jump patient to patient very quickly. As soon as he finished he was gone but they are a busy place so I suppose that's to be expected. The dental assistant was kind also. I wish they would give you a price breakdown before hand as I was shocked at the price afterwards. Overall , a goos experience though.

The staff are always friendly, they answer the phone, they followed through on emailing receipts I needed, and they’ve been helpful/responsive to my needs. Dr. Shea seems like a really good guy, personable, caring, sensible. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I’ve had lots of insurance/billing issues but it’s clear that’s all my insurance’s fault. Fantastic experience: Dr. Ben was amazing!!! Your practice göt me in on a short notice for a bottom molar that was painful. I came in early to fill paperwork out and was seen by Dr. Ben Thornal. He was professoonal and told me that we could solve my pain problems by removing both bottom molars. I agreed and we were in and out by 8pm Its the next day, and im up for work feeling ALOT better. Even though one of the molars caused the Dr. problems getting out, my face feels good and no more mouth pain. Its alittle sore but nothing compared to when i first went in. Dr. Ben put me in for my bottom dentures in April! Everything went real smooth and Franchesca was a pro at scanning my mouth and assisting. Thank you so much! Positive experience: The doctor was great. Not so friendly for the front desk staff/office manager. The doctor was extremely helpful. Answered all questions and was super friendly!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Shea and his team are the best. He eased my severe anxiety on the first visit. He works very fast with zero discomfort. And he was able to give me the anesthetic that doesn't contain epinephrine. I'm so grateful someone recommended him to me.

Fantastic experience: I've been with Comfort Dental in GWS for years! The staff are engaging, professional, and the doctors are great (my favorite is Dr. Ben!). Appointments are easy to schedule and it's generally a short wait to be seen. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure your needs are met, and this is consistent across the time I've been with them. They accept almost all kinds of insurance and offer a great Gold Plan to help if insurance isn't an option. I intend to keep my care with them as long as I have teeth LOL

Positive experience: Dr. Ben is great, a consummate Professional. I have been seen by other dentists at this office, those experiences left a little to be desired. The office staff also has room for improvement, one of the hygienists came to the front desk and was loudly complaining about a patient well within earshot of the rest of the waiting room, very unprofessional.

Positive experience: Receptionists 1/5 ⭐️ Very unpleasant. I had no problem waiting in the lobby for services, however 4 - 5 of them behind the desk were very unprofessional and cussing loudly. It changed the atmosphere entirely. Know Before You Go 1/5 ⭐️ When scheduling over the phone, I was told C.D. offers payment plans for services. Day of my appointment 20% had to be paid up front or my appointment was canceled. Be sure to CLARIFY so you don’t have this surprise. Dentist 5/5 ⭐️ Dr.Johnson extracted 4 of my wisdom teeth and he did a fantastic job. He was understanding, professional, and made sure I was taken care of. Highly recommended scheduling with him!
